STAT LEADER – POSTING ZEROS
With little time remaining on the season, Zack Wheeler has posted 5 shutouts over 6 complete games this year. He is ahead of 2 pitchers who have had 4 shutouts.
The interesting thing for Wheeler is he has done this with two different teams on the season. He started out with the Long Beach Dirt Bags and was traded on 6/15/2023 to the Detroit Crime in a trade that also moved Tommy Pham to Detroit. Detroit sent their 1st & 2nd round picks alongside Daniel Castano and Oliver Perez.
3 of Wheelers shutouts came with Long Beach and since the trade has picked up 2 more for Detroit over 19 season starts.
Can he help Detroit make the playoffs? They are currently in a tough battle with Southwest Detroit and Virginia for the final two playoff spots in the AL.

RECORD BREAKING PACE – THEY AREN’T ALWAYS GOOD ONES
Sometimes stats aren’t always pretty. Just ask Jeter Downs of the Long Beach Dirt Bags.
Going into this week he had 222 strikeouts. This week he had 11 more to give him 233 in 510 plate appearances. He is now only 2 off from the single-season record of 235 currently held by Diory Hernandez from the 2011 season.
