Selkirk  Steelers @ Tempe  Tempers

Preview: The two teams with the best records in all of MWBL square off for six games. Based on how the playoff brackets will line up, these two teams won’t see each other again unless they meet in the NLCS.
Game #1: Albies and Freeman solo for Tempe, but Selkirk beats up on Braiser as he gets his usage. Profar three run homer in the 8th gave Selkirk lots of breathing room.
Selkirk 10-6
W – Cease 20-8, L – Braiser 0-1, S – Iglesias #28
Game #2: Wainwright gives up only one unearned run, but that was the difference as five Tempe pitchers combine for the shutout.
Tempe 1-0
W – Verlander 27-1, L – Wainwright 9-4, S – Muzoz #33
Game #3: Fried grabbed his wrist after facing only two batters in the first inning and had to leave the game with an injury. Turner two rbi single in the 2nd, Carson rbi triple in 6th and a Siemen two run homer in 8th powered the Selkirk offense. The pen limited Tempe to only one run over 8.1 innings.

W – Baker 3-5, L – Martinez 6-2
Game #4: Realmuto and Peralta two run homers in the 4th and a Bogaerts rbi double in the 5th gave Darvish all he needed. Munoz picked up the easy save.
Tempe 5-2
W – Darvish 22-5, L – Nelson 0-2, S – Munoz #34
Game #5: Back to back doubles in 1st allowed Tempe to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Ramirez solo in the 4th and Ramirez rbi double in the 5th put Tempe up 4-0. Selkirk got on the board with an Alonso solo in the 6th. Kwan made his first error in 89 games in the 7th and it allowed two runs to score and bring Selkirk within a run. In the 8th, Tempe loaded the bases off Kimbrel with only one out, but Baker came on and got two critical strikeouts. In the top of the 9th, Garcia doubled of Munoz, Semien sac bunted him to 3rd. Perez was intentionally walked. Carson struckout. And with two outs, Fletcher (recently traded from Tempe to Selkirk) came on to pinch hit and crushed a two run rbi double to give the Steelers the lead. Iglesias locked it down in the 9th.

Game #6: Selkirk pounded Braiser as he got more usage with homers from Garcia, Dubon and two from Alonso.
Selkirk 8-3
W – Cease 21-8, L – Martinez 6-3
Summary: The come back in game five resulted in Tempe losing their first series of the year. Selkirk definitely showed why they will most likely finish with the second best record in all MWBL. Cease was the pitcher of the series with two wins.

Portland  Lumber Jax @ Long Beach  Dirt Bags

Summary: Portland sweeps 6 games from Long Beach.

Triple Creek  Patriots @ Harsens Island  Walleye

Preview: Triple Creek visits Harsens Island.
Summary: Split 3-3. Justin Steele throws a no hitter for the Walleye. Their 2nd in as many weeks.

Corktown  Cycle @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Preview: Two teams with pretty much wasted seasons who are tied with the same record and nowhere near good enough to compete but not quite bad enough to contend for a lottery spot meet up to close out the home season for Bethesda.
Game #1: Jose Berrios limited the Bandicoots to just one run over just under eight innings to give the Cycle a 2-1 win in the opener. Ryan Mountcastle (24) smashed one off George Kirby for the game-winning hit. Jake McCarthy opened the Bandicoots game with a leadoff solo blast but that was it for Bethesda for this day. Emilio Pagan fanned the last four batters to get his 4th save of the year.
Game #2: Robbie Ray struck out nine in eight innings in an easy 7-0 win over Bethesda. Ray (9-11) gave up just five hits while the offense put on a nice batting practice display off starter Mitch Keller and reliever Dennis Santana with homers by Chris Taylor (6), Nate Lowe (21), Jorge Alfaro (6), and Bobby Dalbec (15).Chris Taylor drove in three t lead the winners. Victor Reyes managed two hits for the Bandicoots.
Game #3: Michael Wacha gave up just one hit while striking out six in six shutout innings as Bethesda finally won a game with a 8-3 victory over Corktown. Nick Fortes had an interesting day at the plate going 1/2 and driving in three runs on a single, a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly. Danny Jansen (15) and JJ Bleday (6) went deep for Corktown while Paul DeJong (9) responded likewise for Bethesda.
Game #4: Abraham Toro smacked two dingers to lead the Cycle as they ran riot over Bethesda pitching in a 13-3 rout that featured 20 base hits for the visitors. Nate Lowe led the way with four hits while chris Taylor(7), Ryan Mountcastle (25), and Toro (6) supplied the power. Kelenic was the only Cycle batter not to get a hit – 0/5 – but he did not go away empty handed as he did win the Golden Sombrero as a parting gift for his 4 strikeout effort. Ryan O’Hearn had three hits for the losing home team.
Game #5: Jeff McNiel (9) homered and drove in two to lead the Bandicoots to a 4-2 win over Corktown. Josiah Gray (8-15) went the distance for Corktown in the loss while not pitching too badly with nine hits and one walk while fanning five. Frank Schwindel (8) also homered prior to starting to pack his bags for Japan. Meriil Kelly improved to 9-8 with the win while Matt Moore got his 29th save.
Game #6: Jeff McNeil (10) smashed a two-run blast with an exit velocity of get the fuck outta here in the 8th inning to create some much needed breathing room as Bethesda closed the series with an 8-5 win. Jose Siri (7), Aledmys Diaz (5), and Adam Duvall (12) also homered for Bethesda with Siri brining in three runs. Nate Lowe (22) hit a three-run homer and added a sacrifice fly to provide the offense for Corktown. Miraculously the dynamic duo of Littell and Santana failed to give up a run in the last two innings to secure the win.
Summary: A series split so both teams go away with … well, they just go away basically.

Motor City  Muscle @ Virginia  Sluggers

Preview: One team playing for next year and the other playing for a playoff spot.
Game #1: VIR 5-4
With 2 hits, 2 homers and 3 RBI, K.Carpenter adds to J.Candelario and his solo shot to give MCM a 4-0 lead after 5. But Merrifield hits a 3-run homer to make the game close and A. Trejo’s PH 2-run shot in the 7th brings VIR back and into a 5-4 lead. VIR pen than shuts down any threat and VIR holds on for the win.
Game #2: VIR 2-1
Rengifo gives VIR a 1-0 lead that holds for 4 innings. K.Carpenters ties it in the 9th with his 3rd HR of the series. R.Devers salvages the win for VIR with a walkoff RBI double in the 10th.
Game #3: VIR 8-2
VIR explodes for 6 runs in the 4th and coasts to an easy win. Merrifield was 3-5 with a HR and 2 RBI, Devers was 2-5 with 2 RBI and Rizzo was 3-4 with a HR and 4 RBI. VIR pitchers allow only 4 hits.
Game #4: VIR 6-5
K.Carpenter is hot. He goes 2-3 with 2 HR’s and 3 RBI. That’s now 5 HR’s in the series. That plus O.Arcia’s 3-run blast have MCM up 5-4 in the 7th. However, After tying the game in the 8th, C.Biggio walks it off in the 9th with a RBI double.
Game #5: VIR 9-2
Devers and Jimenez each get 3 hits a homer and 2 RBI as VIR gives McKenzie his 15th win.
Game #6: MCM 13-4
MCM explodes for 14 hits as they finally pin a loss on VIR. K.Carpenter gets his 6th HR of the series. Franco hits a 3-run shot, Cruz a solo homer and Adell goes 2-5 with 4 RBI and a HR of his own. B. WIlso picks up his 2nd win of the year.
Summary: VIR took the series with clutch hitting and good pitching.
However, MCM had the top hitter of the series. K.Carpenter was the star. he was 9-21 ( .429) with 7 runs and 9 RBI. AND he clobbered 6 HR!

Yucaipa  Road Runners @ Baltimore  Comets

Preview: The rebuilding Yucaipa Road Runners (35-109), last place in the N.L. West, pay a visit to the N.L. East frontrunners, Baltimore (88-56)
Game #1: Baltimore scores 6 times in the last 3 innings to break open a close game. The Comets survive Dakota Hudson issuing 9 walks in the game. Gilberto Celestino had 3 hits for the Road Runners.

Game #2: Zack Greinke pitches 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball to even the series at a game apiece. Myles Mikolas was perfect through 7 innings until Garrett Cooper singled in the 8th. Later in the 8th, Terrin Vavra’s pinch-hit single would score the pinch runner Luke Williams with the game’s only run.

Game #5: Jameson Taillon and a pair of relievers combine to blank the Road Runners on 5 hits. Jorge Polanco homered, singled, and knocked in 4 of the 5 Comet runs. Kyle Bradish losses his 22nd game of the year.

Preview: Two long-time rivals in the American League Central hunker down in Chicago for a six game series in early September.
Game #1: Scoreless that’s all you can say as Nasty Nestor Cortes & Tony Gonsolin match up. It’s goose eggs when the starters exit & the bullpens take over. It stays scoreless as the two teams head to extras. 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, & it’s the 14th before the Stalkers put up a 2 spot on 2 Unearned Runs. Stalkers hold it down in the bottom of the 14th for the “W”.

Final Score: Yonge Street 2 – Chicago 0 (14 Innings)

Win: Emmanuel Clase 5-3 (1.34)
Loss: Rafel Montero 6-3 (1.29)

Game #2: Julio Urias goes 7 solid allowing only 1 Earned Run. A shakey 9th inning by Edwin Diaz makes it close when Juan Pena hits his 2nd Home Run of the day. A 2 Run bomb cuts it close at 4-3, but the Mobsters hold on. Julio Rodriguez has a Home Run & 3 RBIs on the day.

Game #3: Yonge Street takes the lead at 7-6 in the 9th Inning. Yordan Alvarez with 2 Outs in the 9th blasts a 2-Run Home Run (His 2nd of the day) off Jose Alvarado for Chicago to walk it off.

Game #4: Stalkers tie it at 3 each in the 8th Inning. It goes to the 11th before with 2 Runners on Yordan Alvarez blasts a 3-Run Walk-Off Home Run to win it for the Mobsters.

Summary:  Detroit Wins the Series 4 games to 2.

Mesa  Solar Sox @ Hollywood  Werewolves

Summary:  Hollywood is reeling down the stretch. They looked good winning the first 3 against Mesa, but Mesa won the last 3 as Hollywood’s bats went silent. This could mean another early exit in the playoffs if they don’t fix their hitting problems.

Sacramento  Capitals @ Prairie  Falcons

Summary: Prairie Falcons & Sacramento Capitals Split.

Cincinnati  Skyliners @ Coconut Creek  Crushers

Preview: Cincy looking to add improve their playoff seeding.
Game #1: CCC jumps on Matz for 7 runs and wins 7-5.
Game #2: Crawford and Irvin both pitch strong and leave with the game tied 1-1. Raleigh hits a HR for CIN in the top of the 9th to take a 2-1 lead. Stone Garrett, who came on as a defensive replacement in the 7th, hits a 2-out Walk-off 3-run HR to steal the game. CCC wins 4-2.
Game #3: Cincy hits 3 HRs to win a tight one, 5-4.
Game #4: Hensley hits a bases loaded triple in the 8th to give CCC their first lead and we hang on to win 7-4.
Game #5: Cal Raleigh hits a HR for the 5th consecutive game and carries CIN to a 3-1 win.
Game #6: CCC offense explodes early. CCC cruises to a 9-5 win.
Summary: CCC with a bit of an upset wins the series 4-2.
Cal Raleigh hit homers in the first 5 games for CIN.
Max Kranick pitches in his first series of the year for CCC. In 3 relief appearances, he tosses 5-2/3 scoreless and picks up 2 wins.

Summary: Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas – takes 4/6 at home. all games were shutouts!

Dallas  Cougars @ Southbend  Lynx

Preview: Dallas and Southbend hook up for a 6 games series. Both teams looking forward to the draft lottery.
Game #1: DAL gets a 3 run T4 to move out ahead thanks to a K.Calhoun 3-run HR.
SBL eventually ties the game 5-5 in the B7 with an Altuve 2-run HR.
DAL would win the game in extra innings in the T10 with a Gimenez 1b and Abreu 2-run HR.
Abreu was 5-5 w/2 runs and 3 rbi in the game.
Dallas 7, Southbend 5
Game #2: SBL C.Sands follows up his shutout in the last series with another shutout in this series.
C.Sands goes 9IP giving up 4 hits while fanning 8 and walking 1.
SBL plates 10 runs on 11 hits with the big hits being a N.Plummer 3-run HR in the B3 and a Soto 3-run HR in the B4.
Southbend 10, Dallas 0
Game #3: DAL Abreu and Laureano with rbi-1bs in the T1 start the scoring.
DAL is up 4-1 in the B3 when SBL Bichette hits a solo-HR and then rbi-1bs by Canha, Plummer and Muncy give the Lynx the lead 5-4.
DAL takes the lead in the T4 on a Robles SF and a Abreu rbi-1b then add another in the T5 on a Palacios rbi-1b.
DAL Rojas rbi-1bh in the T7 makes it 8-5 Cougars.
SBL Altuve hits a 2-run HR in the B7 to pull the Lynx within a run.
In the DAL T8 Jung 2bs with 2 out and PH Gimenez hits a 2-run HR.
SBL stuns DAL in the B8 with an Altuve Grand Slam HR to give the Lynx an 11-10 lead!
In the DAL T9 the Cougars load the bases off SBL closer Houck and then Gimenez hits a Grand Slam (his 2nd of the game after coming in as a PH earlier) to shock the Southbend home crowd!
DAL Z.Pop finally ends the slug fest with a perfect B9 for his 3rd save.
Dallas 14, Southbend 11
Game #4: SBL gets rbi-1bs from Tucker and Fraley for a 2 run lead in the B1.
DAL forges ahead in the T2 a Carantini rbi-1b, Thomas rbi-2b, and a Duran rbi-1b.
SBL ties it with an Fraley rbi-1b in the B3 and take the lead with a Bichette rbi-1b in the B4.
In the SBL B6 an DAL Rojas throwing error gives the Lynx another run.
DAL Abreu hits a solo-HR in the T8 to pull the Cougars within a run.
But that’s the way it would end as SBL Houck pitches a little better this time as he gets his 23rd save with a perfect T9.
Southbend 5, Dallas 4
Game #5: SBL gets another strong start as Pivetta tosses the 3 hit shutout with 11 Ks and 1 walk. Pivetta’s best start this season by a long shot.
SBL get their 1st run in the B1 when DAL Melendez drops the ball at home allowing Bichette to score on Almonte’s 1b.
In the SBL B2 Bichette adds a rbi-1b and in the B5 Tucker hits a 2-run HR to close out the scoring.
Southbend 4, Dallas 0
Game #6: After DAL Castro hits a 2-run HR in the T5 for a 3-1 Cougar lead the SBL erupt for 7 runs in the B5.
SBL strings together several walks, an error by Palacios, and then 5 straight 1bs to account for most of the runs.
SBL N.Plummer hits a Grand Slam in the B8 to end the scoring.
SBL Hernandez goes the distance to improve his record to 2-15!
Southbend 12, Dallas 3
Summary: Southbend with a rare series win as they take the series 4-2 over Dallas

Preview: Columbus finds their way to South Georgia to take on last place Valdosta.
Summary: 3-3 split between these two teams.
