ZOOM INSTRUCTIONS

Using ZOOM for Live Head-to-Head Play

Zoom is a free application that allows you to share voice, video, and computer screens, enabling live gameplay for our league. If you don’t have Zoom installed, download the free version here.

Installation if Zoom is not installed:  https://zoom.us/download?os=win

Click the “Download for Free” button and follow the installation instructions.

Note: The free version has a 40-minute limit, but you can simply log back in to continue.

For the Hosting Team:

Open Zoom by double-clicking the Zoom icon on your desktop or in the Windows start menu.

Click “New Meeting” to start a new session.

Ensure your audio is on for communication.
Video is optional but can enhance the experience.

Click “Participants” (small up arrow) and copy the invite link.

Send the invite link via E-Mail or Slack to your opponent or league mate.

Click “Participants” again to view the list on the right side of your Zoom meeting. You will eventually see your League mate or opponent.

Click the participant’s name and “Admit” them to start the meeting. The free version will have a 40-minute limit. The paid version will not “Time-Out”

Click the “Share” button (GREEN) (small up arrow) and select “Advanced Sharing Options.”

Choose “League Manager” and click the “Share” button.
Choose “APBA Baseball” and click the “Share” button.

A separate or detached menu bar should appear on your screen.

Use CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-H to hide or unhide this command bar.

On this toolbar, click “Remote Control” and select “Give Mouse/Keyboard Control to” followed by your opponent’s name.

They should then have Shared control of your Keyboard and Mouse.
Our Suggestion is to have each manager use the Keyboard controls as much as they can and share the mouse at the best time.  

When playing a game via ZOOM a few comments on pre-game setup:

1. Display settings within the game. You may find that choosing a Specific Ballpark for your Zoom games is a good solution – and it might be a different ballpark backdrop than you use for your solo games. This way, you can have a ballpark where the screen fonts are bigger than you normally use (it can help the opponent to see things better).  In that case, you CHANGE your selected ballpark in LM using the Rules Menu.
2. Speed Setting – make sure your Speed and Confirmation setting is slow enough for the opponent to be able to read the plays. A good place to start would be about the 75-80 mark on the slider (the slider is NOT marked, so you are eyeballing this.

Be sure to check this before the first pitch – because you may use a faster setting when you play.  If you use a slower setting, stay there, you need to be comfortable too!

3. KEYBOARD vs. MOUSE – As host, you should probably tend to use the KEYBOARD for much of your play commands (P for Pitch, Enter for hit) as it frees up confusion on using the mouse. Not required, but remember, if you use the mouse, and the opponent uses the mouse you could be fighting for it simultaneously.

Short Cut Keys

Many actions in Baseball can be initiated via a single keystroke or two-keystroke combination.  When two keys are to be used together, this is indicated by a “+” between the two noted keys; this means you must hold down the first key and then press the second, as when pressing the Shift key or Control (Ctrl) key and a letter to type an upper case version of a letter.

The active shortcut keys are here presented in alphanumeric order (letters, then numbers, then function keys), with their effects briefly noted following each key.

H       Hold the runner (on 1st), or remove the hold

I        Bring the infield in (or out)

L        Bunt for sacrifice (“Lay it down”)

M        Dual-purpose key can be used for Hit Away (offense) or Pitch (Defense)

P        Pitch the ball – also see M

R        Hit & Run

S        Pitch from the stretch, or windup (Defense)

S        Steal a base (Offense)

T        Time out

W        Intentional walk
