| Game #1: | The first game of the series saw Zac Gallen through a complete game 3 hitter in which he gave up 1 unearned run. He was firing on all cylinders with 8 strikeouts and only 1 walk. All 3 hits he gave up were doubles and the lone Bethesda run was scored by Josh Harrison on a little league home run thanks to an error by Chas McCormick. Luis Robert was 3/4 with a double and 2 RBI. Leony Taveras had a solo shot on his 3/4 performance.

| Game #2: | Portland takes game 2 in an absolute onslaught in the 6th & 7th brining home 10 runs on 16 hits. Tyler Mahle got his final start of the season going 4.2 IP of 2 hit 8 strikeout ball. Bethesda got their only runs in the top of the 9th with a 3 spot but it was way too late. Adam Duvall had 2 RBIs in the 9th on a double. For Portland it didn’t matter which pitcher was on the mound tonight as Gleyber Torres had himself 5 RBI and a HR. Leony Taveras had another nice game going 3/5 with 2 RBI and a 3B.

| Game #3: | Portland gave themselves at least a series tie in which Kyle Freeland goes 7 and only gave up 1 run on 6 strikeouts. Bethesda spread out 7 hits in this one but only scrapped 1 run across the plate on a Jeff McNeil 2B. Leony Taveras again had himself a day, he went 2/4 with 2 HR and 4 RBI. He has been hot in the first three games. Luis Robert slapped 3 more singles going 3/4.

| Game #4: | The Portland 10 game win streak is over. Bethesda shut down the bats this one as George Kirby goes the distance only giving up 1 run in the 9th on a CJ Cron home run but that was just 1 of 4 hits all game. He struck out 11 and was in complete control all night long. Jeff McNeil played well with 2 RBI on his lone hit, it was a HR. As a whole, both teams did not hit very well as there was just 10 combined hits. Hoby Milner for Portland came in for Eflin as he was on a batter count and imploded in the 6th which broke the scoreless game. Portland is happy to not face Kirby again.

| Game #5: | Portland gets the series win as the bats came alive again. For the 4th game in 5 days Leony Taveras played well. He was 3/4 with a HR and 3 RBI. Austin Barnes went 2/4 with 2 HR and 3 RBI. After Bethesda opened up with 3 in the first on reigning pitcher of the week German Marquez, they sent out Marco Gonzales and he gave up 7 in the 2nd and was quickly chased. Andrew Vaughn had 2 hits and 2 RBI (2 run double in that 3 run 1st inning) and Josh Harrison in the 7th had a great 2 run triple.

| Game #6: | The final game of the series was a pitchers duel and a rematch of game 1. Chrisitan Arroyo opened up the game in the 1st inning with a 2 run shot and that was the end of the scoring for Portland. It was all quiet as Keller and Gallen were striking out just about every other batter until Josh Harrison hit his own 2 run shot in the 6th inning. Keller finished with a line of 6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 8 K and 2 BB. Gallen went 8 IP on 4 H, 2 ER, with 9 K. This was the only game to go to extra innings in the series and Mark Leiter Jr. pitched the 10th for Portland which saw Pavin Smith hit what would prove to be the game winning 2 run HR.

| Game #6: | So we had a no-hitter in game 1, so how about a 1 hitter in game 6! Yup – and it came from a grade 3 – Paulo Espino! He gives up 4th inning single to Wil Smith – and that’s it (and 2 walks) in the CG win. It was a tense game however, Columbus gets a run in the 2nd and but Montas is again being stingy and he strings it out through 6. Still 1-0 going into the home half of the 7th when Columbus finally gets to Montas – and Kremer and score 6 runs! Urshela drives in 2 of them (had a 3 hit day and is still having a great year at .333). Espino closes it out in the 8th and 9th and Columbus wins it 7-0 (but it was close for most of the game). | Game #2: | Dallas takes an early 4-1 lead into the third, when Fremont scores 4 to go on top 5-4. The teams trade runs in the fifth, when Fremont starter Walker Buehler leaves in line for the win after a tough day. The Cougar bats get to work on the Fremont bullpen, scoring twice in the sixth and seventh and once in the eighth for a 10-6 lead. A Manuel Margot homer in the eighth cuts the lead to three. Ron Marinaccio comes on in the ninth and strikes out the side for the 10-7 Dallas win.
Dallas scores 10 without a homer thanks to 18 hits and good days from Harold Castro (4 for 6, 3 RBI) and Miguel Rojas (4 for 4, 2 RBI). Travis Swaggerty is HBP and knocked out for 2 games. W: Cole Ragans (3-3) HR: DAL- none; FRE- Manuel Margot (4), Byron Buxton (18) |
| Game #3: | It’s another day for the offenses as both starters depart after allowing 6 runs. Fremont breaks up the tie with a two-out 4-run scoring spree in the eighth. Kohl Calhoun homers in the ninth to cut it to 10-7, but Shelby Miller gets the last two outs for the Fremont win.

| Game #4: | This game saw the best combined pitching performances of the series. Patrick Corbin (DAL) and Shohei Ohtani (FRE) each goes 9 scoreless innings. Dallas leads off the tenth with a walk and steal but fails to score. Fremont goes 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning. Dallas goes 3 up 3 down in the top of the 11th. Fremont gets Manuel Margot on thanks to an error, but can’t bring him home so we go to twelve. Seth Brown leads off the 12th with a hit for Dallas, but is stranded. Fremont goes down quietly in the bottom of the inning.
A walk, infield hit, and wild pitch puts runners on 2nd and 3rd for Dallas with two outs in the 13th. This time, Jose Abreu comes up with the clutch single to put the Cougars up 2-0. In the bottom of the 13th, Fremont gets a runner on to bring the tying run to the plate, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. grounds out to end it as a 2-0 Dallas victory in 13 innings. | Game #5: | Dallas gets right to work with a Bubba Thompson double and Ramon Laureano single off of Carlos Rodon to make it 1-0 in the first. Fremont loads the bases in the second inning, but Kyle Higashioka flies out. Higashioka comes up again with two on in the 4th but flies out. Fremont finally gets on the board with a Carlos Correa solo HR in the 5th.
Shohei Ohtani’s two out single in the seventh brings in Javier Baez for a 2-1 Fremont lead. In the 8th, Sandy Leon leads off with a walk. Bubba Thompson attempts to bunt him over to second, but gets a base hit out of it to put runners on 1st and 2nd. PH Harold Castro doubles in a run to tie it up and put runners on 2nd and 3rd. After a walk loads the bases, a Nelson Cruz sac fly brings in another to give Dallas the 3-2 lead. In the ninth, Victoir Robles draws a leadoff walk and steals second. After advancing to third on a flyout, Sandy Leon also walks to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Bubba Thompson, the bunting hero of the eighth inning, tries it again with a suicide squeeze which successfully brings home an insurance run and advances another to 2nd base. Harold Castro singles to right, but the Cougars hold Leon at third. Jose Abreu then strikes out for the fourth time to end the threat, but Dallas leads it 4-2. Ron Marinaccio comes in and gets the first out, but then loses his control and walks the next 3 batters. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. comes up with the bases loaded and one out, and stands by as Marinaccio walks him as well, bringing in a run. That brings up Teoscar Hernandez, who smashes one off the wall in left center to bring in the winning runs. Fremont walks it off 5-4. W: Yimi Garcia (4-5) HR: DAL- none; FRE- Carlos Correa (18) |
| Game #6: | This game was a rematch of the Game 1 starters. Sandy Alcantara was great again, but this time Zach Plesac held up his end of the deal. The game is scoreless until the 6th inning, when Carlos Correa’s solo HR puts Fremont up 1-0. Fremont gets two more on in the inning but strands them. In the 8th inning, Miguel Rojas sends one deep, but Teoscar Hernandez brings it back over the wall to keep it at 1-0.
Fremont gets two on with two outs in the 8th, but can’t get that insurance run. Alcantara is on a roll and is left in for the 9th. Bubba Thompson doubles to lead off the inning, and Harold Castor walks to put the winning run on base with no outs. Andres Gimenez comes up in a big spot but is asked to sacrifice the runners over. He bunts his way into a strikeout, however. The next two batters strike out swinging and Fremont gets the 1-0 win off of the CG from Alcantara for his 20th win of the season. | Summary: | Fremont takes the series 4-2, which doesn’t quite lock up the division but puts their magic number for at 1 based on the Cincinnati results as well as the H2H tiebreaker. Dallas played tough despite their weak rotation, but the man of the series is Sanday Alcantara: 16 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 17 K.
Next up Dallas hosts divisional rival Southwest Detroit who is fighting for one of the last WC spots, while Fremont travels to a Virginia team fighting for that same spot. |
