2014 PROPOSALS / 2015 RULE CHANGES

The following 2014 MWBL Proposal has passed and will be written into the League Guide in the coming weeks ahead.
Please make note of these changes as we head into the MWBL OFF SEASON.
All changes will go into effect immediately after the 2015 MWBL Draft.

Proposal #2 – Pitcher Durability and Injury adjustment – Grade 4 and 5 pitchers  –  (PASSED 22-5 BY LEAGUE WIDE VOTE)

MWBL adjusts the MBFs for Grade 4 and 5 pitchers (as well as boosting all grade 1 and 2 pitchers to 3). However, currently the Durability and Injury rating of Grade 4 and 5 pitchers is not adjusted to match the increase in MBF. This essentially has the potential to NEGATE the value of the increased MBF (pitchers will still be prone to LONG injuries and/or slow recovery time..

PROPOSED: Adjust the Pitcher Durability and Injury Rating for all Grade 4 and 5 pitchers (and Grade 4* and 5*) to Durability 2 and Injury 2 (except in the case where the Durability or Injury is 1 – leave then at 1.

Both catchers have a surprisingly high OSBP which could be a key in a Series that should be dominated by the pitchers. Getting that extra base might get you that extra run. Overall Molina is the better hitting catcher. If he had enough PA Molina would have been third in the NL in Batting Average. Advantage TEM

Hollywood
Goldschmidt is a solid all around player. He was #2 in the AL in slugging, #1 in runs, 2nd in home runs, and 2nd in RBI. He also had an AL best errorless streak at 114 games. With Hollywood going with 3 southpaws in their projected rotation Davis may be limited to pinch hitting or late game defensive replacement opportunities. Playing in only 60 NL games he would have had the best slugging at .678 if he had qualified. Overall in the MWBL he was still 4th in slugging, 3rd in home runs, and on top in RBI’s. He also had the longest errorless streak in the MWBL at 126 games.  Fielder, not a bad defender but compared to Davis he’s a liability for Tempe. Offensively he can produce just not quite to the same level as the other two first basemen. Overall Goldschmidt was a slightly better defensive player and his ability to steal a base pushes him over Davis. Advantage HOL

TempeNational League Division Series – Camarillo Quest vs Tempe Tempers

Series Preview :  The NL West Champion Camarillo Quest (100-62) matched up against the NL Central champion Tempe Tempers (129-33) in the 2014 NLCS. The teams faced each other last year in the Division series and a rivalry is definitely brewing. Both teams have explosive lineups finishing first and second in the NL in home-runs and both teams have the top Cy Young candidates. The series was played head to head online.

2014 AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

HollywoodAmerican League League Championship Series  –  Tijuana Bottle Rockets vs. Hollywood Werewolves

Series Preview:   Hollywood and Tijuana won a combine 211 games and have been perennial playoff teams in the American League over the years. Tijuana has 3 division championships and 1 trip to the World Series that crowned them champions (2010). Hollywood on the other hand has won 5 division championships (the last 3 in a row) and 2 trips to the World Series – with no Championships. These 2 storied franchises now face off in the ALCS for the second time in 3 years, with Hollywood winning 4 games to 2 in 2012.

Game #1:  Tanner Roark takes the mound vs Clayton Kershaw. The 19 grade Roark vs the 20 grade Kershaw is sure to produce a low scoring game. It did not disappoint. Both starting pitchers pitched scoreless frame vs scoreless frame until we head to the 8th inning. With 2-outs and Miguel Cabrera stepping to the plate, let’s listen to the call. The pitch to CABRERA … muscled to deep left … this one has a passport … adios, amigo it’s long gone! Hollywood leads 1-0! From there, Hollywood turns to the pen for a 1-0 win and a 1-0 series lead. AMERICAN LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES #1

TijuanaAmerican League Division Series – Elyria Indians vs. Tijuana Bottle Rockets

Series Preview:  Tijuana hosts Elyria in this division series. This will be the 3rd time in 5 years these 2 teams have met in the post season. Tijuana has taken the 1st 2 series.

Game #1: A. Sanchez is solid going 7 and giving up 2. Zimmerman gives up 6(5 earned) in his 5 innings of work. D. O’Day finishes the final 2 innings to preserve the win. TIJ 6 ELY 2

Game #2: Greinke goes 7 allowing only 3 runs. Santos and Balfour stink it up and Tijuana takes a 2-0 series lead as they win this one 8-3

Game #3: Elyria wins a 17 inning marathon 4-3 to keep themselves in this series. The bullpens never really recover from this one.

Game #4: Elria’s bullpen implodes, allowing 6 runs in the 9th giving Tijuana the easy 9-3 win. Continue reading →
