NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES #2

TempeNational League Division Series – Clovis Wheat Kings vs. Tempe Tempers

Series Preview:   Clovis Wheat Kings (99-63) and Tempe Tempers (129-33) squared of in a best of seven series over JoinMe. The two teams previously faced each other in the 2003 Divisional playoffs. This time around the Wheat Kings came into the series with the fatigue of the Wild Card while Tempe was well rested.

Game #1: Tempe jumped out to a one run lead on Liriano in the first on three consecutive two out singles by Braun, Beltre and Cuddyer. Tempe added a second run in the third when the same three hitters each hit consecutive singles. Those six singles were the only offense Tempe managed, but Clovis was held to only two hits. Iwakuma went five shutout innings for the win and Howel, Crain, and Holland pitched four perfect innings.

NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES #1

National League Division Series – Manhattan Project vs. Camarillo Quest

Series Preview:  Division Series – Manhattan Project vs Camarillo Quest – Can Jose Fernanez and Yu Darvish lead Manhattan to victory or will it be the big bats of Joey Votto, Jose Bautista and Brandon Moss?

Game #1: With Cy Young candidate CJ Wilson on the mound for Camarillo things looked good early – leading 5 to 1 going into the 8th inning. Wilson went 6 strong and was pulled to save his arm for later in the series. It almost back-fired and Manhattan scored 2 off the bat of Stephen Drew (who went 3 for 3 with 3 rbis in the game), but Camarillo held on to the 5 to 3 win. Continue reading →

AMERICAN LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES #2

HollywoodAmerican League Division Series – Hollywood Werewolves vs. Virginia Sluggers

Series Preview:   Hollywood finished the season with an AL best 110 wins and their reward is the Wild Card winner. Unfortunately, that happened to be their division rival Virginia Sluggers who won the 2nd most games at 102. Virginia was led by Max Scherzer‘s 24 wins while Hollywood was led by AL Cy Young favorite Clayton Kershaw who went 29-3. Virginia will be missing Aramis Ramirez all series which will hurt them significantly.

Game #1: With Scherzer needed to win the Wild Card round, Virginia turns to Jorge de la Rosa while Hollywood turns to Kershaw. Hollywood jumps out to a 1-0 lead when Wellington Castillo doubles home Ian Kinsler. That turns out to be all Hollywood needed as Virginia puts up a goose-egg and Hollywood wins 6-0. Kershaw goes 6 strong and hands off to the bullpen. Hollywood leads 1-0.
