ALBERT PUJOLS – HITS # 500!

Open the window, Aunt Minnie … here she comes … Albert Pujols hits 500!

Albert_Pujols13-1The most decorated player in MWBL history achieved yet another milestone this week, hitting the 500th home run of his illustrious career.  The big hit against the Selkirk SteelersZach McAllister in the bottom of the 6th inning with Sacramento down 5-1, one out and 2 runners on, to close the gap to 5-4; unfortunately, Selkirk would end up winning the game 7-6.
Albert_Pujols13-3When asked about his 500th home run, Prince Albert asserted in his traditional stoic fashion: “500 isn’t my goal.  My goal is to win, and we didn’t win.  Sure, 500 is nice, but I’m more interested in 513–giving me 500 home runs for the Capitals [and the Riots] franchise–or 600, 700, or, better yet, a 2013 World Series Championship.”

The next day, Albert Pujols hit No. 501 against Selkirk in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game at 6 apiece;  “now that’s what I’m talking about,” said Albert.  The Capitals would go on to win 9-8 in the 11th inning.

Albert_Pujols13-2Albert Pujols, now in his 12th MWBL season, holds a career.317 batting average and .408 OBP in 1791 games, with 1481 runs, 1355 RBI, 508 doubles, and 501 home runs.   Over his career, Albert Pujols has earned the Rookie of the Year Award (2002), 8 MVP Awards (2004-2011), 2 Christmas Classic HR Derby Awards, and 9 NL All-Star games.  Despite not a single gold glove award, Albert Pujols has been a stellar defender, with a .994 Career Fielding Percentage–so far–playing mostly 1B, but also minor stints at 3B, OF, and SS.

What’s left for Albert Pujols?  At age 33, how much longer can Albert go?  Can we expect another 10 years?  Can we expect No. 600, No. 700, No. 800?
