Fremont calls on Ryan Tepera to close this one down, but the Solar Sox are able to handle him easily and tie it up at 4-4 in the ninth. Mesa calls on a strong effort from David Bednar to keep rolling through extras after having come on in the sixth, while Fremont turns to usual starter Carlos Rodon. Rodon holds the Solar Sox scoreless through the twelfth, when Bednar finally runs out of juice and gives up a walkoff homer to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Bednar ended up pitching 5.2 innings in relief (the same as starter Javier), and maintained his grade until the end.

Mesa looks to have it put away after an error and walk help fuel a 3-run seventh inning, but Fremont comes out of the stretch to score 3 of their own, led by Byron Buxton’s 2-run HR. Mesa goes into the ninth with an 8-5 lead for Scott Barlow, but a Shohei Ohtani leadoff walk and Byron Buxton’s second HR of the game brings it to 8-7. With the bases juiced in the third, Andrew Heaney gets Javier Baez with a K, but walks Joshua Rojas to force in a run.

Mesa gets one back with Randal Grichuk’s run-scoring double in the fourth, but a bases-loaded WP in the bottom of the inning scores one for Fremont. Vladimir Guerrero lines into a double play with runners on second and third to keep it from getting worse. Fremont keeps at it in the fifth, and Austin Hays broken-bat single brings in two more for a 6-2 win. The Cannons win despite no extra-base hits.
