2024 Major League Baseball Draft: Mid-West Baseball League Stars Shine Bright
Mid-West Baseball League Commissioner’s Office – Report submitted by Chris Douglass – Tempe Tempers – July 16th, 2024
In an exciting turn of events, several players who were selected in the 2024 Mid-West Baseball League (MWBL) Draft this past February have now been picked in the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft. The biggest winner in this scenario is undoubtedly the Bethesda Bandicoots, who had the top two players taken in the MLB Draft this past Sunday evening: Travis Bazzana and Chase Burns.
The question on everyone’s mind now is whether & if any of these talented players will make it to the major leagues (MLB) before the end of the 2026 MLB season. Notably, Travis Bazzana and Jac Caglianone have been given the Bonus Baby tag, granting them an extra year of eligibility through 2027.
Here’s a look at the players selected by MWBL teams and their corresponding MLB Draft picks:
| Pick | Player | POS | MWBL | MLB |
| 1 | Bazzana, Travis | 2B | BET | CLE |
| 2 | Burns, Chase | P | BET | CIN |
| 3 | Condon, Charlie | OF | YRR | COL |
| 4 | Kurtz, Nick | 1B | DAL | OAK |
| 5 | Smith, Hagen | P | DET | CWS |
| 6 | Caglianone, Jac | 1B | GST | KAN |
| 7 | Wetherholt, J.J. | 2B | FRE | STL |
| 9 | Griffin, Konnor | OF | DET | PIT |
| 10 | King, Seaver | OF | GST | WAS |
| 12 | Montgomery, Braden | OF | BET | BOS |
| 22 | Honeycutt, Vance | OF | TEM | BAL |
| 38 | Brecht, Brody | P | TIJ | COL |
| 40 | White, Tommy | 3B | DET | OAK |
| 46 | Santucci, Jonathan | P | BET | NYM |
| 83 | Hartle, Josh | P | BAL | PIT |
| 87 | Sirota, Mike | OF | FRE | CIN |
MWBL managers have once again demonstrated their keen eye for talent, often outshining their MLB counterparts in identifying future stars. As these players embark on their professional journeys, all eyes will be on their progress and potential impact on the major leagues as well as when & if they make it up as carded players in the Mid-West Baseball League.
