Game #1: | Game 1 see Severn jump out to a 6-0 lead only to see Southbend score 7 in the 5th. Severn would tie it up in the 6th and there would be no more scoring until the 14th when the Lynx put 1 across to win 8-7. Gomes and Jaso had 3 RBIs each. Marmol got the win in relief. |
Game #2: | Again, Severn jumps out to a 3-0 lead only to see the Lynx tie it up in the 4th. Game #1: | Cain was fairly human giving up 2 runs in 6 innings to improve to 4-0 as the bats were mashing. Granderson hit 2, Pedroia 1 and Beltre 1 in the 11-4 Tempe win. Holland gave up 2 runs. |
Game #2: | Tempe’s Holland has been awful this year as hes given up a ton of homers and runs. In this one he allowed a 2 run homer which got Selkirk back in the Game. Selkirk would win 6-5 with a walk off homer by Panda. Beltre, Ike Davis and Granderson homered for Tempe |

New York Outlaws @ Long Beach Dirt Bags |
|

Ortiz hit a PH HR in the top of the 9th to give the Outlaws a 2-0 lead. Parra led off the 9th with a HR and Long Beach had runners at 1st & 2nd with 2 outs but Ramirez grounded out to end the 2-1 Oulaws win. Series Summary * | New York was too strong for the home team and took 5 of the 7 games. This looks like a team that can do some damage in the NL. |
Valdosta Snappers @ Columbus Explorers |
|
Series Preview | In the season opener for Columbus – and the FIRST GAMES in Columbus since the original Explorers moved to Hollywood – the fans were treated to an extraordinary series that featured 6 one run games! |
Game #1: | Game 1 decided in 9th when Columbus scores winning run when Zimmerman singles off Hughes. With new pitcher Gorzelanny in , Nunez PR, is moved to 2nd on Hairston groundout. Shoppach receives the IW and Fontenot then rips one to the gap plating Nunez, 3-2 Columbus. Hughes (1-2) takes the loss (8 ip, 9 hits, 3 R/ER, 8 Ks). Perez (1-0) gets the win with 2 ip – 0 hits, 1 walk, 3 Ks. Duncan HR (1) |
Game #2: | Game 2 – Valdosta gets 6 straight hits (5 singles, double) and then a SF to open the game – and a 4-0 lead in the 1st. By end of 3rd it was 5-2 Valdosta, but run shot by Desmond (3) in 8th makes it 5-4. Who you gonna call? Valdosta has Craig Kimbrell’s number and he comes in to pitch a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th for his 5th save. Corriea (2-1) gets the win, Harrell (0-3) takes another loss. Victorino (2) also homers for the Explorers. Podsednick gets 2 hits/rbis for the Snappers. Series tied at 1-1. |
Game #3: | OK – this is the one game that was not a 1 run affair. A 6 run outburst by Valdosta in the 4th does in Columbus. That inning included a Baltimore special by Duncan (2). Carter and Gonzalez each had 3 hits in the 13 hit Valdosta attack. Final score was 7-3. Reddick (2) also homered for the Sanppers, Lopez (1) for the Explorers. Dempster goes 7.2 innings for the win (2-1) and fanned 11. Milone (1-2) takes the loss going 6 innings giving up 7 runs (4 ER) and fanning 10. Game featured 24 Ks (12 on each team) – whiff! Valdosta now up 2-1. |
Game #4: | Valdosta plates 2 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd to get to a 4-1 lead after 3. Columbus shuts down their offense the rest of the way and manages to score 2 in the 6th to draw to 4-3 deficit. Martin had a 2 run shot (3) in the mix. 9th inning, Valdosta up 4-3, who you gonna call? Valdosta has Craig Kimbrell of course. However, things don’t always work as planned – Kimbrell gives up 3 hits and 2 run for BS #1 and the loss (0-1) in a shocker. Bass (2-0) gets the win after he and Kirkman shut out the Snappers over the final 3 innings. Series knotted at 2 games each. |
Game #5: | Hughes and Tomlin square off and again we have a 4-3 Valdosta lead going into the bottom of the 9th. Who you gonna call? Well, in spite of the previous games debacle in the 9th, Kimbrell is again called on. He must have had a fire in the belly because he mowed through the 3 Explorer batters (with 2 Ks) to preserve the win and earn his 6th save. Hughes goes to 2-1 with the win, Tomlin drops to 0-3. Infante led the Snapper attach with 2 solo homers (2, 3) and Reddick added a solo shot (3) of his own in the 2 run 5th (and it was the game winner). Valdosta takes a 3-2 series lead. |
Game #6: | Game 6 Corriea vs Happ – scored tied going into 9th 3-3 including a Reddick 2 run HR (4). Belisario comes in for the 9th – and Pena (3) greets him with a lead off HR. Bottom of the 9th, Valdosta up 4-3, who you gonna call, well they didn’t call Kimbrell for this game as Doolittle is brought in. Did he do little? Well yup. Nunez singles, steals 2nd. Carpenter grounds him to 3rd. De Aza then lines out to Doolittle. Victorino then singles, tying the game and moves to 2nd on Duncan bobble in the OF. Badenhop comes in for Doolittle and the inning ends with game tied 4-4 after 9. In the 10th, Valdosta fails to score in the top half, but in the bottom half Desmond leads off with a 2b. With 1 out, Young draws the IW, after a double steal, PH Soriano is given the IW. Fontenot up, infield in, grounder, bobble but they still get the runner at home to preserve the tie, 2 outs. Gorzelanny to pitch. Carpenter up – he walks him for the winning ru n, 5-4 Columbus. Bellisario (1-0) the win, Badenhop (0-1) the loss. Zimmerman (3) also homered in the game. Once again, the series is knotted – this time at 3 games each, finale coming up. |
Game #7: | Well, what can be more exciting than another nail biting 1 run game? Wood and Harrell square off – Wood goes 3 innings, Harrell 6 – neither figure in the decision. Explorers explore for 4 runs in the 2nd to make it 4-1, but Snappers tie it with 3 in the 5th (nothing holds during this series). Columbus regains the lead in the 6th on a 2 out triple by Victorino followed by a hard earned infield single by De Aza. Explorers up 5-4. Kirkman enters in the 7th and gets to the 8th before trouble erupts. Chris Carter PHs and draws a walk. With 1 out, PR Podsednick steals 2nd. PH Castillo singles to RF to put runners on the corners. LeCure is called on to pitch – Infante up, the squeeze and the run scores, tie game. Francisco comes in to PH for Mortensen and doubles down the line scoring the go ahead run and Valdosta enters the bottom of the 8th with a 6-5 lead. Who you gonna call? 8th inning – Doolittle is called on and he breezes through the 8th an d stays on for the 9th. With 2 outs, Zimmerman gets and infield single, Soriano to bat. Ahem! Who you gonna call – Kimbrell? No – Henderson is called on – and he gets Soriano to ground into FC to end the game – and Henderson’s 1st save. By the way, that was Doolittle’s 4th hold of the year. WP – Mortensen (1-0), LP Kirkman (1-1) |
Series Summary * | Valdosta takes the series 4-3 – although Columbus was even (3-3) in the one run games. M. Carpenter on 15 day DL. |
Jersey Nor’easters @ Clovis Wheat Kings |
|
Series Preview | Nor’easters come to Clovis after a tough series against Tempe, Clovis looking for some home cooking after opening the season with 13 on the road. |
Game #1: | A pair of lefties match up that have both pitched well; Jose Quintana for Jersey and Gio Gonzalez for Clovis. The game more than justified the hype as both starters go the route in a Clovis 1-0 win. Heisey rode a high fastball over the right center field wall in the bottom of the eighth inning for his first homer of the year and the game’s only run. Quintana went 8 giving up only the one run on three hits, striking out 5 and walking no one for the very tough luck loss. Gonzalez improved to 3-0 with his second shutout of the season. He gave up 3 hits striking out 11 and walking 3. |
Game #2: | Matt Harvey for the Wheat Kings vs. Derek Lowe for Jersey. Rookie Matt Harvey picks up his first win as a big leaguer in a tight 2-1 victory for the ‘Kings. Harvey tossed 7.1 strong innings giving up only 1 hit and no runs while striking out 8. Clovis used the formula of a Rajai Davis single, stolen base and a Ryan Theriot base knock twice to score their runs, Jersey got their only run on a Jesus Montero big fly in the ninth but it was not enough to stop Scott Atchison from notching his second save. |
Game #3: | Homer Bailey (1-2) vs. Johnny Cueto (1-1). Maybe the greatest pitching performance in MWBL history!!!! Cueto goes 12 perfect innings striking out 11. 12 straight 3 up, 3 down innings and he gets nothing to show for it, Bailey gave up 6 hits but no runs over his 10 + innings, both starters gave were gone by the time this one ended with a 2-0 Jersey victory fueled by a Kendrick two run homer in the 15th. Cueto with 12 perfect innings clearly the story here. |
Game #4: | Samardzjia (0-2) vs. Capuano (1-2) Jersey ties up the series at two games apiece with a 5-1 win. Capuano continues the string of strong performances by the starters with a complete game 3 hit performance with 11 k’s and no walks. Kendrick led the offense with a couple of hits and 3 RBI. |
Game #5: | Zito (1-1) vs. Kendrick (1-1) Jersey starters continue to look like Cy Young every night as Zito and Furbush combine for a 3-0 shutout victory. Zito goes 8 strong with Furbush chipping in with a quick 1-2-3 ninth for his 4th save. Teixeira blasted his 5th homer of the year for the big blow for Jersey who has now taken three in a row. |
Game #6: | Quintana (1-1) vs. Gonzalez (3-0). Jersey slaps Clovis around 9-3. Kendrick and Teixeira both homered for the Nor’easters while Dunn hit a pair for Clovis. |
Series Summary * | Jersey roared back like a…like a….like a…Nor’easter (couldn’t avoid it!) taking the last 4 games after Clovis had picked up the first 2 for a 4-2 Jersey series win. The story of the series was Johnny Cueto throwing 12 perfect innings in a 15 inning 2-0 Jersey win. Player of the week? He certainly gets my vote. |
Pittsburgh Lumber Company @ Hollywood Werewolves |
|
Series Summary * | This one certainly has a Hollywood ending. The Werewolves gnaw on the Lumber Company en route to a sweep. |
Sacramento Capitals @ Roseville Thorns |

Game #2: | Edwin Encarnacion wills Roseville to a win in game 2 with 2 HR’s. RVT 3 – SAC 2 |
Game #3: | Roseville cruises to the win. RVT 8 – SAC 3 |
Game #4: | With a 2-1 series lead Roseville was looking to take a commanding 3-1 series lead. Down 3-1 in the 7th Sacramento rallies to tie the game. The game would remain tied 3-3 into the 17th inning. With the bench empty Sacramento leaves Eric O’Flaherty the pitcher in to hit and he rewards the team with the game winning RBI. SAC 4 – RVT 3 in 17 innings |
Game #5: | Cliff Lee goes 8 scoreless innings and Sacramento takes a 3-2 series lead SAC 1 – RVT 0 |
Game #6: | A tired bullpen and 4 injuries and Roseville is on the ropes. SAC 11 – RVT 4 |
Game #7: | Roseville’s bullpen is exhausted and their starter Aaron Harang is relied on to go at least 6 innings. He lasts 7. Unfortunately he allows 10 runs in the process. SAC 10 – RVT 4 |
Series Summary * | Sacramento reminds Roseville why their only chance at sniffing the playoffs is through the wild card. Game 4 took a lot out of both teams. Cliff Lee for series MVP of the series. 2 Wins, 15 2/3 IP, 0 runs, 4 hits |
Tijuana Bottle Rockets @ Yonge Street Stalkers |

Game #4: | It was Kennedys turn to baffle in this one (CGSO). TIJ 5 – YSS 0 |
Game #5: | An old fashioned beat down. Nova took the brunt of the damage. TIJ had 3 guys HR and 5 guys drive in runs. TIJ 12 – YSS 1 |
Game #6: | Kluber outdueled Shields in a good close game. TIJ 4 – YSS 3 |
Game #7: | YSS grabs its second win of the series with Latos CGSO. YSS 5 – TIJ 0 |
Series Summary * | The 2 wins for YSS were bookend CGSO’s. Shields in game 1 and Latos to close it out. TIJ also threw 2 shutouts. So now you know that. |
Bethesda Bandicoots @ Fremont Cannons |

Game #4: | BET 5, FRE 1 Four Fremont errors from some of their top defenders help the Bandicoots even up the series. Bethesda gets a second straight CG performance, this time by Brian Matusz, who racked up 11 K’s in 9 IP. W: Matusz (1-1) L: Billingsley (1-2) HR: BET- none; FRE- none |
Game #5: | BET 13, FRE 1 Complete games from both starters, but only one pitched well. W: Cobb (1-0) L: Nicasio (2-2) HR: BET- Jay (1); FRE- none |
Game #6: | FRE 3, BET 1 The Cannons bounce back with another good performance by Detwiler, who didn’t allow an extra-base hit and 0 ER. Game #2: | RA Dickey tosses a 1-hit shutout. Camarillo wins 3 to 0 and takes a 2 to 0 series lead. |
