GLEYBER TORRES 2-RUN HOME RUN HELPS THE AMERICAN LEAGUE WIN THE 2026 ALL-STAR GAME 8-2.
The 2026 MWBL All-Star Game turned on one decisive American League surge. The A.L. scored four times in the fifth to break open a 1-0 game, then added power and late insurance to beat the National League 8-2 on Saturday night, November 14, at the Triple Creek Patriots’ home park. Gainesville Swamp Things star Gleyber Torres earned MVP honors: pinch-hitting in the fifth, he launched the two-run homer that pushed the lead to three, then added another hit and a walk as the A.L. finished with 11 hits.
The A.L. got its first run before either side had settled. Bobby Witt Jr. opened the top of the first with a routine fly, but Ketel Marte singled and Nick Kurtz turned on a Jacob deGrom pitch, driving a triple into the right-field corner. Marte scored, and Kurtz slid safely into third. Aaron Judge drew an intentional walk, but Eugenio Suarez lined into Freddie Freeman and Christian Walker’s grounder ended the threat. The A.L. led 1-0, a slim edge that still had to hold.
The National League threatened immediately. Fernando Tatis Jr. doubled in the bottom of the first, but Tarik Skubal struck out Cal Raleigh and retired Jose Ramirez on a fly ball, leaving Tatis at second. Skubal needed only two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two. The A.L.’s relievers kept the game tight through the middle frames. Raleigh beat out a slow grounder in the fourth and stole second, but Carlos Rodon struck out Ramirez and Bo Bichette grounded out. The N.L. had a runner in scoring position, but no run.
The game’s shape shifted in the fifth. Ben Rice singled off Nathan Eovaldi, and after Kyle Schwarber struck out, manager Stray Corrado called on Torres to hit for Alejandro Kirk. Torres sent a high drive over the right-field fence for a two-run homer, stretching the A.L. lead to 3-0. Gunnar Henderson and Marte followed with singles, and Byron Buxton’s grounder moved them into scoring position. Judge was intentionally walked to load the bases, setting up Junior Caminero, who lined a two-run single down the left-field line. The A.L. had turned a one-run advantage into a 5-0 cushion in a four-run inning. The N.L. found no immediate answer, and one defensive play in the sixth kept the gap wide. With two outs and runners at second and third, William Contreras drove a ball toward the center-field wall. George Springer timed his leap and brought it back, taking away a potential three-run homer and ending the A.L. threat. In the bottom half, Ronald Acuna Jr. pinch-ran, stole second and reached scoring
position, but the N.L. left him there. The shutout held through six.
position, but the N.L. left him there. The shutout held through six.Buxton added another blow in the seventh, opening the inning with a solo homer to left off Edwin Diaz for a 6-0 lead. The N.L. finally broke through in the bottom half: pinch-hitter Kerry Carpenter drove a two-run homer, scoring Maikel Garcia and cutting the deficit to 6-2. It was the National League’s first scoring burst, but the A.L. answered before the late innings could turn into a comeback. In the eighth, Julio Rodriguez walked, Torres singled to right, and Rodriguez advanced to third. Henderson lifted a fly ball to right, deep enough for Rodriguez to tag and score on a sacrifice fly. The A.L. led by five, 7-2.
Judge drove a solo homer to right in the ninth to make it 8-2. The N.L. went quietly in its last at-bat. Aroldis Chapman retired the first two hitters on grounders, and Gleyber Torres fielded Ronald Acuna Jr.’s slow roller to close it out. The A.L. had held the National League to six hits, while collecting 11 of its own and avoiding a multi-inning rally after Carpenter’s homer.
Torres’s fifth-inning swing gave the game its defining separation, but the victory was built across the lineup: Kurtz’s early triple, Caminero’s bases-loaded single, Buxton’s seventh-inning homer and Judge’s ninth-inning insurance. The A.L. pitching staff protected the lead, and Springer’s catch removed the N.L.’s best chance to change the score quickly. At the Triple Creek Patriots’ home park, the American League took the 2026 MWBL All-Star Game 8-2, with Torres’s two-hit, two-RBI night at the center of the result.
