The Mid-West Baseball League (MWBL) announced its annual awards for the 2025 season today, celebrating outstanding performances in both the American League (A.L.) and National League (N.L.). The winners demonstrated exceptional talent and leadership across all major categories, including MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year, and Rolaids Reliever of the Year.

Most Valuable Player Awards: Powerhouses Prevail

In the American League, Aaron Judge of the Hollywood Werewolves clinched the Most Valuable Player Award, securing 152 total votes. Judge stood out against strong competition, including runner-up Shohei Ohtani of the Fremont Cannons, who earned 132 points.

Meanwhile, the National League crowned Brent Rooker of the Sacramento Capitals as its MVP, gathering 128 points in the balloting. Rooker edged out Juan Soto of the Tampa Bay Expos, who finished second with 110 points, and Jose Ramirez of the Tempe Tempers, who was third with 111 points.

Cy Young Awards: Aces Dominate the Mound

The 2025 Cy Young Awards recognized two formidable pitching performances. For the American League, Zack Wheeler of the Detroit Crime secured the honor with 74 points. Wheeler topped the voting ahead of Tarik Skubal of the Fremont Cannons, who finished with 48 points.

The National League saw a strong year for Sacramento pitching, but it was Shota Imanaga of the Sacramento Capitals who took home the Cy Young Award, earning 85 points. Imanaga’s victory came over his Sacramento teammate, Chris Sale, who tallied 36 points.

Rookie of the Year Awards: A Historic A.L. Race

The American League Rookie of the Year voting was exceptionally close, featuring a three-way battle decided by just five total points. Paul Skenes of the Detroit Crime ultimately claimed the title with 31 points. However, Skenes’ margin of victory was razor-thin, as Jackson Merrill of the Harsens Island Walleye finished just two points behind with 29 points, and Jackson Chourio of the Chicago Mobsters followed closely with 26 points. This tightly contested race showcased the depth of young talent making an immediate impact in the American League.

In the National League, Shota Imanaga of the Sacramento Capitals achieved a rare double distinction, following his Cy Young win by also capturing the Rookie of the Year award with 46 points. Wilyer Abreu of the Tempe Tempers was the runner-up in the N.L. Rookie voting, receiving 30 points.

Rolaids Reliever of the Year: Late-Inning Heroes

The Rolaids Reliever of the Year Award celebrated the league’s top closers. In the American League, Ryan Helsley of the Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas was the decisive winner, tallying 59 points. Aroldis Chapman of the Chicago Mobsters finished second in the voting with 20 points.

The National League Reliever honor went to Andres Munoz of the Tempe Tempers, who earned 50 points. Raisel Iglesias of the Selkirk Steelers placed second in the N.L. Reliever category with 33 points.

Manager of the Year: Hoch and Skiles Lead Their Leagues

The Manager of the Year Awards recognized exceptional leadership in both leagues. In the American League, Casey Hoch of the Fremont Cannons secured the award with 51 points, narrowly beating John “Stray” Corrado of the Chicago Mobsters, who received 43 points.

The National League saw George Skiles of the Sacramento Capitals take home the honor, also with 51 points. Skiles won the award ahead of Chris Douglass of the Tempe Tempers, who totaled 25 points

Update from Casey Hoch (11/18/25)

Here are a few notable marks:

1. With George Skile’s Manager of the Year award, he is now tied with Stray Corrado for second-most with 8, though Stray leads in Top 3 finishes 19-17. Chris Douglass is two ahead of everybody with 10.
2. With Salvador Perez‘s Gold Glove, he is now in a three-way tie for second-most with four, still three behind Yadier Molina‘s record seven at Catcher.
3. With Matt Olson‘s third Gold Glove, he is now in a four-way tie for fifth-most, two behind Mark Teixeira‘s record five at First Base.
4. Thirteen pitchers have won two Cy Young Awards. Zach Wheeler joined that group this year, but there are still only two pitchers who have won more than two (Pedro and Kershaw).
5. Aaron Judge joins the group of ten players who have won at least two MVPs, but he’s still far off from Pujols’s eight wins.
6. Nineteen pitchers have made the All-Star Game five times, with Chris Sale joining that list.
7. Freddie Freeman‘s eighth All-Star appearance ties him for ninth-most for a position player, and Bryce Harper and Francisco Lindor move up below him with their seventh appearances.
