| Game #1: | Cowser worked a walk and Busch hit a two run homerun in the 2nd for Sacramento. Fermin doubled in a 3rd run in the 6th. It would have been 4-0 if Kwan hadn’t gunned Garcia at home. Tempe rallied back to tie it 3-3 in the bottom of the 6th on a homerun from Ozuna and rbi doubles from Abrue and Realmuto. In the bottom of the 7th, Kwan singled in Robles after he’d stolen 2B and moved to 3B on a sac bunt. Fermin’s rbi single tied it in the 8th. In the bottom of 9th, back to back infield errors by the Capitals put runners on the corners and Freeman walked it off with a single. Tempe 5-4 |
| Game #2: | In the 2nd, Tempe put runners on 3rd and 2nd after a double steal and Martinez doubled them both home. Mateo added a rbi triple to make it 3-0. Carpenter got the Capitals on the board with a rbi triple in the 3rd. The Capitals loaded the bases with one out in the 4th, but only got one run. Cook and Mateo slapped rbi singles in the bottom of the 4th to knock out Sale. Albies then added a two run homer off Matsui. Sale ended up with six earned runs. Sacramento rallied back for 3 runs when Fauche and Jansen combined for three straight walks in the 6th. However, Tempe added a run in the 7th and two more in the 8th to pull away. Rooker took advantage of Stripling or a solo in the 9th. Tempe 10-6 |
| Game #3: | Rooker two run homer in the 4th and a three run homer in the 6th was all Imanaga needed to secure his 21st win of the season. He’s looking like a lock for the Cy-Young. Sacramento 5-2 |
| Game #4: | Peralta was spotted a three run lead, but couldn’t hold down Sacramento. Woodrichardson gave up home runs to Kwan and Ramirez in the 1st, but then pitched 6.2 near perfect innings. Cowser, Carpenter, Lindor and Busch all went deep on Peralta. Rooker also added homer off Verlander who mopped up the final three innings for Tempe. Sacramento 10-5 |
| Game #5: | Degrom made his first start of 2025 and struck out the side in the 1st. Wesneksi hit Freeman in the 4th knocking him out for the next three days. Realmuto salvaged the inning with a two run double. In the 5th, Kwan executed a clean hit and run to put runners on the corners and Ozuna doubled in both runners. Hinds added a pinch hit rbi single to knock out Wesneski. DeGrom took a perfect game into the 7th and finished with one hit over 8 shutout innings. Faucher came in for the 9th and the rookie earned some respect from the team when he beaned Rooker for Freddy’s plunking. Tempe 5-0 |
| Game #6: | Ozuna’s sac fly in the 1st gave Tempe the early lead. Clement and Profar put Sacramento on top in the 3rd with solo homeruns. In the 4th, Ramirez walked, stole 2nd and scored on Abreu’s rbi single to tie it. Realmuto then hit a two run homer to put Tempe up 4-2. Abrue’s solo in the 6th and Ozuna’s solo in the 8th made it 6-2. Munoz pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th for his 31st save. Tempe 6-2 |
| Summary: | Tempe didn’t come close to sweeping, but they did manage to eke out the series 4-2 win. Rooker tried to gain ground on Ramirez in their battle for the NL MVP with four homeruns. Ramirez went deep and stole three bases including his 30th SB of the season. Imanaga most likely locked down the NL Cy-Young during the series and deGrom showed a preview of his potential for next year. |

| Game #3: | David Hamilton popped one out of the park off Kevin Ginkel in the bottom of the 8th as Bethesda edged Valdosta 3-2. Pavin Smith also homered for Bethesda but otherwise the Snappers’ five pitchers did really well in a bullpen game. Michael Wacha fanned 13 in seven innings but didn’t get a decision. |
| Game #4: | Joel Payamps made just one pitch in the game and Nick Castellanos took it for a ride as he gave Bethesda a 3-2 walkoff win over Valdosta. Joe Boyle was excellent in his start for Valdosta and allowed just two runs on five hits in eight innings before giving way to Payamps to start the 9th. He struck out eight and walked just one. Wilmer Flores singled, homered and drove in both runs for the Snappers. Michael Harris (single, triple) and JP Crawford (two singles) also had a pair of his for Valdosta. |
| Game #5: | The Bandicoots didn’t bring their gloves to this game (three errors/three unearned runs) but they brought their bats homering five times in another Valdosta bullpen game that didn’t go so well in a 9-6 win for Bethesda. Heston Kjerstad homered twice and drove in three runs, Tyler Fitgerald homered and doubled and drove in two with Spencer Horwitz and Nick Castellanos also joining the big hit parade. Valdosta also had its share of long balls with Romy Gonzalez getting three hits including a homer, DaShawn Keirsey Jr mashed his 18th and Ronald Acuna smacked a three-run pinch hit homer in the 7th that made the game close at 7-6. |
| Game #6: | Joe Musgrove struck out seven and gave up just two hits in a 7-0 shutout over Valdosta. Gavin Sheets and Wilmer Flores spoiled the no-hit attempt with a double and a single respectively while Jake Burger, Lane Thomas and Jake Meyers hit home runs for Bethesda. |

Columbus Explorers @ Arboga Rats |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Columbus trying to keep playoff drive going forward invades Arbogo for 6 games! |
| Game #1: | Columbus gets 3 hit performance from Marsh and a McCutchen 2 run homer (12) to put together a 4-1 win. Tim Herrin notches his 35th save. Suarez (4-11) takes the loss. |
| Game #2: | Arboga responds with a 4-2 win in the 2nd game – but it was not easy. Explorers up 2-1 heading into the 7th when Vierling hits a SF off Garcia (BS 1) – the Rats had the bases loaded when he entered and 1 out. 1 run in to tie it up. Then the game goes 7 innings with no runs – Rats had chances, Columbus didn’t. Rats ended up leaving 11 on bases but finally with 1 out in the 15th, Deluca (6) hits a 2 run walk-off homer. Final 4-2 Arboga, WP Alcala 2-2, LP Floro (5-4) |
| Game #3: | Kim triples, then Rutschman and Vierling double and the Rats score 2 in the 3rd. Both unearned. Sears ends up going 5.2 for Columbus and that was all he gave up. Singer meanwhile blanks Columbus through 4 but then gives up 2 in the 5th on a Donavan double and then 2 more in the 7th on an Arcia homer (12). That put Columbus up 4-2 and Faedo (W 5-2) and Herrin (S 36) keep it that way. Singer drops to 7-16. |
| Game #4: | Then we get the pitching masterpieces – note, that’s plural. Parker goes the distance for Columbus giving up 2 hits, fanning 9, walking 1 and giving up 2 run – scored on a DP in the 4th. The other gem came from Rats starter Crochet (W 10-6). He goes 8 innings, 1 hit, no runs, 9 ks. And Clase tosses the 9th for his 23rd save (and 1.09 era). FINAL Rats 1 Explorers 0 |
| Game #5: | Now for the streak of shutouts, game 4 was the 1st and the series is tied 2-2. In the 8th, Orlando Arcia blows out a close 3-0 game with a grand slam (13). Big 2 hit day for him. Assad is finally finding support as he gets the win (9-6) with 8 innings, 4 hits, 7 ks! Spence (3-18) takes the loss. |
| Game #6: | Alec Marsh (W 7-5) is throwing his hat in the pitcher of the week ring with his gritty 6.1 inning scoreless performance in the finale. He also fanned 7 while giving up 6 hits. For the week he had 2 starts, 2 wins, 1 ER, 12.2 ip and 15 ks. Not bad… However when he left the game the outcome was still very much in doubt. Columbus had scratched out 1 run in the 2nd but Suarez (L 4-12) was going strong the rest of the way – until the 8th when Columbus put together a rally that featured some walks, and a hit off Clase who came in with the based loaded. Columbus scores 3 in the 8th to seal they deal and an Arcia homer (14) – his 3rd of the week) in the 9th off Clase made the final 5-0! |
| Summary: | Lots of good pitching and timely hitting was needed to produce victories. Columbus got a bit more of both for a 4-2 series win. They head home next week for their final homestand of the season. Arbogo stays home to host Long Beach. |
Corktown Cycle @ Fremont Cannons |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Corktown is battling for a wild card spot. Fremont can clinch the AL East this week. |
| Game #1: | Jose Berrios (CRK) vs Oswaldo Bido (FRE)
Oswaldo Bido’s final start of the season was a disaster, allowing 6 runs (3 earned) in 1.2 IP. Fremont committed 3 errors, walked 9, and allowed 11 hits. As you can imagine, Corktown wins, 13-2. Jose Berrios was great, allowing 1 run in 7 innings and striking out 10. W: Jose Berrios (4-13) HR: CRK- none; FRE- Dairon Blanco (5), Shohei Ohtani (39) |
| Game #2: | Colin Rea (CRK) vs Tarik Skubal (FRE)
Skubal gets the pitching back on track for the Cannons, allowing 2 runs in 8.0 IP while striking out 10. Shohei Ohtani’s 40th HR of the year helps Fremont to the 6-2 victory. W: Shohei Ohtani (15-5) HR: CRK- none; FRE- Shohei Ohtani (40) |
| Game #3: | Brayan Bello (CRK) vs Bailey Ober (FRE)
It’s a rough start for Bailey Ober as he gives up 5 runs in the second, then settles down afterwards. Fremont claws back to make it 5-4, then Amed Rosario doubles in a run in the eighth to make it 6-4. Fremont gets two on in the bottom of the inning but Matthew Liberatore shits the door on Shohei Ohtani and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Logan O’Hoppe hots a solo HR in the top of the ninth. Will Vest comes on and promptly serves up a HR to Nate Lowe to increase the lead to 8-4. A two-run HR by Mike Yastrzemski in the bottom of the ninth gives Fremont hop by cutting the margin to two. A Byron Buxton double brings the tying run to the plate, but Brenan Hanifee gets Jose Iglesias and Joey Bart out to close the game for an 8-6 CRK win. Teoscar Hernandez picks up HR #30. It was another 3-error day forFremont. W: Brayan Bello (8-15) HR: CRK- J.J. Bleday (14), Logan O’Hoppe (9), Nate Lowe (14); FRE- Teoscar Heranandez (30), Mike Yastrzemski (17), Bo Naylor (7) |
| Game #4: | Tanner Bibee (CRK) vs Carlos Rodon (FRE)
A Vladimir Guerrero Jr. single brings in the first run for Fremont after an Elly de la Cruz SB. Davis Schneider ties it in the 3rd with a solo HR. Shohei Ohtani’s 3rd HR of the series is a two-run blast in the 5th to put Fremont up 3-1. Mike Yastrzemski singles in a Fremont run in the fifth after a Teoscar Hernandez SB, then Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singles in another run in the sixth after an Elly de la Cruz SB. Fremont goes up 5-1. A two-run Jazz Chisolm HR in the top of the ninth cuts the lead to two, but that is all the Cycle would muster. Fremont wins 5-3. Rodon strikes out 14 in the win. Fremont goes 4-4 on stolen bases, with three of them coming home to score on singles. Shohei Ohtani picks up RBI #100. W: Carlos Rodon (13-8) HR: CRK- Jazz Chisholm (28), Davis Schneider (6); FRE- Shohei Ohtani (41) |
| Game #5: | Luis L. Ortiz (CRK) vs Charlie Morton (FRE)
Fremont gets a 2-run HR from Josh Rojas in the 2nd and a 2-run HR from Teoscar Hernandez in the 4th to go up 4-0. The Cycle have their opportunities but can’t pick up any runs, and a 3-run Fremont eighth helps close the 7-0 win. It was an odd statline as Corktown has 12 LOB after 9 hits (and get 0 runs on two triples), while Fremont musters 7 runs on just 4 hits. Morton continues the K-parade from the previous day, with 13 strikeouts. Corktown commits 3 errors. W: Charlie Morton (14-9) HR: CRK- none; FRE- Teoscar Hernandez (31), Josh Rojas (7) |
| Game #6: | Jose Berrios (CRK) vs Jared Koenig (FRE)
Mike Yastrzemski and Elias Diaz go back-to-back with HRs in the second to put Fremont up 3-0. Three straight walks load the bases in the third for Corktown, and a GIDP is enough to put the first run on the board for the cycle. Fremont is able to make it 5-2 in the sixth with an error and Austin Hays’s 1st HR this year. The Cycle get one in the ninth but are stopped with runners at second and third. Fremont wins the finale 5-2. Koenig picks up a win in his final start. W: Jared Koenig (14-9) HR: CRK- none; FRE- Mike Yastrzemski (18), Elias Diaz (4), Josh Rojas (7), Austin Hays (1) |
| Summary: | Fremont takes the series 4-2 and clinches the AL East title.
Next week, Fremont heads on the road to Dallas, while Corktown stays on the road. Going to Harsens Island. |
