Cincinnati  Skyliners @ Southwest Detroit  Fighting Chihuahuas

Summary: Cincinnati takes 4/6 at Southwest Detroit virtually ending SWD playoff hopes…

Harsens Island  Walleye @ Chicago  Mobsters

Preview: Chicago enters as the clear favorite thanks to their season-long dominance, but Harsens Island’s recent surge means this series could be more competitive than expected. If Harsens Island’s momentum continues, they could steal a game or two, but Chicago’s depth and consistency give them the edge.
Game #1: Chicago rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Harsens Island Walleye 5-3 in a hard-fought contest. Harsens Island jumped ahead in the first two innings, capitalizing on a triple from Jackson Merrill and timely hitting by Nicky Lopez. However, Chicago responded in the bottom of the third, stringing together hits from LaMonte Wade, Luis Arraez, and Yordan Alvarez to tie the game, then surging ahead with RBI singles from Willy Adames and a costly error that allowed two more runs to score. Logan Gilbert settled in after a shaky start, tossing six strong innings and allowing just two runs while striking out six. The Mobsters’ bullpen held firm, with Aroldis Chapman slamming the door in the ninth for his 22nd save. Bryan Woo took the loss for Harsens Island, giving up five runs (three earned) over four innings.

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Harsens Island 3

Win: Logan Gilbert 15-4 (2.15)
Loss: Bryan Woo 4-9 (3.28)
Save: Aroldis Chapman #22

Game #2: The Chicago Mobsters dominated the Harsens Island Walleye in a one-sided affair, cruising to a 14-0 victory. Chicago broke the game open in the second inning, capitalizing on a passed ball and an error to plate three runs. They continued to pile on, highlighted by Willy Adames’ grand slam in the fourth inning, which pushed the lead to 11-0. The Mobsters’ offense was relentless, racking up 14 runs on 13 hits, with contributions throughout the lineup. On the mound, Bryce Miller was outstanding, tossing six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out eight. The Chicago bullpen kept the shutout intact, while Harsens Island’s pitchers struggled to contain the Mobsters’ bats. Luis Severino took the loss, giving up five runs (two earned) in just 2.2 innings. Chicago’s dominant performance leaves no doubt in this matchup.

Final Score: Chicago 14 – Harsens Island 0

Win: Bryce Miller 9-4 (1.92)
Loss: Luis Severino 6-8 (3.86)

Game #3: The Harsens Island Walleye rallied late to defeat the Chicago Mobsters 11-6 in an exciting matchup. The Mobsters took an early 2-1 lead after a two-run homer by Jackson Chourio in the fourth, but the Walleye stormed back in the seventh, scoring seven runs on a flurry of hits and aggressive baserunning. Key contributions came from Sal Frelick, who extended his hitting streak and drove in runs, and Jackson Merrill, who collected three hits. Chicago tried to answer with a two-run homer from Yordan Alvarez and a solo shot by Julio Rodriguez, but the Walleye’s offense proved too much. Luis Gil pitched 6.2 innings for the win, striking out seven despite some control issues, while Seth Lugo took the loss after allowing four runs in the pivotal seventh. The Walleye capitalized on Chicago’s defensive miscues, sealing the victory with a strong bullpen finish.

Final Score: Harsens Island 11 – Chicago 6

Win: Luis Gil 7-12 (3.45)
Loss: Seth Lugo 13-5 (2.31)

Game #4: The Mobsters defeated the Harsens Island Walleye 5-1 in a game highlighted by strong pitching and timely hitting. Chicago jumped ahead early, with Riley Greene launching a solo homer in the second inning to open the scoring. The Mobsters added two more runs in the frame, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and a clutch single from Alex Bregman. River Ryan was sharp on the mound, holding the Walleye scoreless through five innings and scattering just three hits. Harsens Island managed to break through in the sixth with a run-scoring double by Gavin Lux, but Chicago quickly responded in the eighth as Willy Adames crushed a two-run homer to put the game out of reach. The Mobsters’ bullpen, anchored by Aroldis Chapman, closed the door in the ninth. Despite a 12-strikeout effort from Eduardo Rodriguez, the Walleye couldn’t overcome early mistakes and missed opportunities.

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Harsens Island 1

Win: River Ryan 3-0 (1.80)
Loss: Eduardo Rodriguez 1-4 (3.65)
Save: Aroldis Chapman #23

Game #5: Chicago rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Harsens Island Walleye 8-2. Harsens Island struck first with a two-run homer by Nick Fortes in the second inning, but Chicago answered in the third. Back-to-back doubles by Moreno and Wade tied the game, and Alex Bregman’s two-run homer put the Mobsters ahead 4-2. Chicago’s offense kept rolling in the seventh, stringing together hits from Wade, Arraez, and Diaz to extend the lead. Jackson Chourio capped the rally with a two-run single, making it 8-2. Hunter Brown settled in after the early home run, pitching eight strong innings and striking out eight. The Mobsters’ bullpen closed the door, retiring the side in order in the ninth. Michael King took the loss for Harsens Island, while Brown earned his third win of the season. Chicago’s balanced attack and solid pitching proved too much for the Walleye.

Final Score: Chicago 8 – Harsens Island 2

Win: Hunter Brown 3-4 (3.45)
Loss: Michael King 8-9 (2.79)

Game #6: The Mobsters dominated the Harsens Island Walleye with a convincing 6-1 victory. The game was scoreless through two innings as both starters, Logan Gilbert and Bryan Woo, traded zeros. In the third, Chicago broke through: Julio Rodriguez walked and stole second, then Gary Sanchez launched a two-run homer. Alex Bregman followed later in the inning with a two-run shot of his own, putting Chicago up 4-0. The Mobsters added single runs in the fourth and sixth, including a solo homer by LaMonte Wade Jr. Logan Gilbert was outstanding, allowing just one run—a solo homer by Gavin Lux in the seventh—over seven innings while striking out six. Woo struggled, surrendering five runs in just over four innings. Chicago’s bullpen closed it out, and despite a brief injury scare for Bregman, the Mobsters cruised to the win.

Final Score: Chicago 6 – Harsens Island 1

Win: Logan Gilbert 16-4 (2.10)
Loss: Bryan Woo 4-10 (3.50)

Summary: Chicago cemented their status as the league’s powerhouse, dispatching the Harsens Island Walleye in a six-game series that showcased both their depth and resilience. Entering as heavy favorites, Chicago lived up to the billing, taking five of six games and demonstrating why they’ve been dominant all season.

The Mobsters’ offense was relentless, highlighted by a 14-0 rout that featured a grand slam from Willy Adames and multi-hit performances throughout the lineup. Chicago’s bats consistently delivered, with key home runs from Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman, Riley Greene, and LaMonte Wade Jr., while timely rallies erased early deficits in multiple games.

Pitching was equally impressive for Chicago. Logan Gilbert anchored the staff with two strong starts, including a seven-inning, six-strikeout performance. Bryce Miller and Hunter Brown also delivered quality outings, and the bullpen—led by Aroldis Chapman—remained nearly untouchable, slamming the door in tight spots.

Harsens Island, riding a late-season surge, managed to steal one game with a dramatic seven-run rally in the seventh inning, powered by Sal Frelick and Jackson Merrill. Despite flashes of offensive firepower, including homers from Nick Fortes and Gavin Lux, the Walleye struggled to keep pace, hampered by defensive miscues and inconsistent pitching.

Ultimately, Chicago’s combination of power, pitching, and poise proved too much. The Mobsters capitalized on nearly every opportunity, turning close contests into comfortable wins and never letting momentum slip for long. Harsens Island’s lone victory was a testament to their grit, but Chicago’s dominance was never truly in doubt.

With this series win, the Mobsters reaffirm their championship credentials, while the Walleye, despite their recent momentum, are left searching for answers against the league’s elite.

Detroit  Crime @ Fremont  Cannons

Preview: Battle of contenders as Detroit visits Fremont. The Crime took the first series 4-3 in the Motor City.
Game #1: Aaron Nola (DET) vs Osvaldo Bido (FRE)

Kyle Schwarber gets the Crime on the board with a solo homer, but Fremont ties it in the fourth with an RBI single from new acquisition Jonah Bride. Fremont gets another in the sixth to take the lead, then builds a cushion with a 2-run HR from Byron Buxton. They would need all of it as Detroit scores two in the ninth and has runners on second and third with one out. After an intentional walk loads the bases, Edwin Uceta settles down to strike out Rafael Marchan and Patrick Wisdom. Fremont wins 4-3.

Jonah Bride goes 3-4 with 2 RBI in his debut. Charlie Morton strikes out 9 in 4.2 IP as the bulk guy and picks up the win.

W: Charlie Morton (9-6)
L: Aaron Nola (7-8)
S: Edwin Uceta (13)

HR: DET- Kyle Schwarber (25). FRE- Byron Buxton (13)

Game #2: Sean Manaea (DET) vs Jared Koenig (FRE)

Both starters pitched well but did not figure into the decision. Detroit gets a run in the 4th from an Andy Ibanez RBI single. It looks like it could have been more, but Teoscar Hernandez throws out Kyle Schwarber at the plate after a flyout to right. Fremont scores two in the seventh when a Jonah Bride single is followed by an Elly de la Cruz HR. With two on and no outs in the eighth, Bryan Hudson is brought in to face Shohei Ohtani, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Carlos Correa and gets them all out. Sean Reid-Foley gives up a double to Bryce Harper in the ninth but is able to end the game with the 2-1 Cannons win.

W: Sean Guenther (2-2)
L: John Schreiber (0-1)
S: Sean Reid-Foley (6)

HR: DET- none; FRE- Elly de la Cruz (18)

Game #3: Paul Skenes (DET) vs Tarik Skubal (FRE)

The matchup everyone wanted to see. Skenes was his normal excellent self, while Skubal was merely average. Bobby Witt Jr.’s wheels are on display as he leads off with a double, advances to third, then comes home on a sac fly. In the third Martin Maldonado tests Byron Buxton’s arm and comes up a winner with a double. That lets Bryce harper pick up an extra RBI with his 2-run HR. Skenes’s first hit allowed is an Elias Diaz HR in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 3-1.

A single and steal in the fifth with no outs give Fremont three chances to pick up another run, but Skenes shuts them down. Martin Maldonado adds the insurance with a solo HR in the seventh. Fremont doesn’t threaten again, and Detroit wins this one 4-1. Skenes strikes out 10 as the Crime only allow 2 hits.

W: Paul Skenes (8-3)
L: Tarik Skubal (11-3)
S: Bryan Hudson (14)

HR: DET- Bryce Harper (19), Martin Maldonado (4); FRE- Elias Diaz (3)

Game #4: Zack Wheeler (DET) vs Osvaldo Bido (FRE)

Charlie Morton doesn’t pitch as well this time in the bulk role, and Detroit gets 4 in the third, with a two-run double from Kyle Schwarber accounting for half of them. The Cannons are able to get two back in the fourth with Carlos Correa’s two-run HR. The Crime get another in the sixth to make it 5-2. Sean Guenther comes in to try to keep the game close but gives up a 2-run HR to Donovan Solano and Detroit takes a big 7-2 lead. That score would hold and Wheeler picks up his 16th win in the Crime victory.

W: Zack Wheeler (16-3)
L: Charlie Morton (9-7)

HR: DET- Donovan Solano (7); FRE- Carlos Correa (10)

Game #5: Ryan Weathers (DET) vs Bailey Ober (FRE)

Detroit picks up single runs in the first, third, and fifth to go up 3-0. Fremont puts together a 4-run bottom of the sixth to jump into the lead. Detroit ties it up in the top of the sixth as a sac bunt turns into a throwing error. Fremont tries to get another in the bottom of the inning, but Byron Buxton is thrown out stealing second and Teoscar Hernandez’s double leads to nothing.

Bailey Ober is left out there a little too long in the seventh, as a Tommy Pham infield single is followed by Bibby Witt Jr.’s triple. With no outs and a runner on third, Ober is able to keep the game within one. Fremont gets a runner on second in the seventh but Bryan Hudson keeps him there. Witt Jr. leads off the ninth with his second triple of the game, but Yimi Garcia strands him to give Fremont a chance in the ninth. Elly de la Cruz reaches on an error and steals second. Jesus Tinoco comes on and gets Joey Bart and Jose Iglesias out to preserve the 5-4 Detroit win. Bobby Witt Jr. has a massive game, going 5-5 with two triples and a double.

W: Ryan Weathers (8-1)
L: Bailey Ober (9-5)
S: Jesus Tinoco (5)

HR: none

Game #6: Ronel Blanco (DET) vs Carlos Rodon (FRE)

Bobby Witt Jr. troubles Fremont again, singling, advancing to third on another single, then coming home on a sac fly to give Detroit a 1-0 lead out of the gate. Witt Jr. strikes again with a solo HR in the third. Fremont gets runners on 2nd and 3rd in the fourth but fails to score. A walk and steal, followed by a wild pitch puts Shohei Ohtani on 3rd,and a sac fly brings him in to give Fremont their first run in the sixth.

Teoscar Hernandez leads off the seventh with a double. After an intentional walk, the Crime are able to hold the runners and keep it a 1-run game. A walk and steal by Bryce Harper in the eighth with a throwing error from Bo Naylor puts a runner on third, but Harper is stranded. In the bottom of the inning, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singles, then Carlos Correa’s double sends pinch-runner Austin Hays home. The throw gets there in time, but the collision knocks the ball loose and the Cannons tie the game at two apiece, with Correa moving to third. After an intentional walk, Jesus Tinoco induces the double play from Byron Buxton to keep it tied.

A leadoff double in the ninth from Kyle Schwarber brings plenty of danger, but Sean Reid-Foley keeps him from scoring. Fremont responds with a leadoff double from Jonah Bride in the bottom of the ninth. Jose Iglesias singles but Jonah Bride is cut down at the plate by Mike Siani. Iglesias advances to second on the throw to keep the winning run in scoring position, but Jason Adam gets Bo Naylor and Elly de la Cruz to fly out and sends it to extra innings. Reid-Foley walks the first batter he faces, so Edwin Uceta comes on. Uceta’s first batter is Rafael Marchan, and the ball takes a nine-hour cab ride to center and over the wall for the 4-2 Detroit lead. Marchan’s first homer of the year couldn’t have come at a better time. Fremont shows some fight still and responds with a leadoff double from Shohei Ohtani. Unfortunately, Adam bears down and strikes out Austin Hays, Carlos Correa, and Byron Buxton to hold down the 4-2 Detroit win in ten.

W: Jason Adam (3-2)
L: Sean Reid-Foley (5-2)

HR: DET- Bobby Witt Jr. (25), Rafael Marchan (1); FRE- none

Summary: An exciting series sees Detroit take it 4-2, with a Game 6 play at the plate being the difference from a split. Bobby Witt Jr.’s two-triple game was something you don’t see often. Shohei Ohtani had a dud of a series, with just 4 hits and no homers. Both teams showed strong pitching that could make for some more tight games were these teams to match up in the playoffs.

Next week Detroit’s back at home hoping to stack up some wins against Motor City, while Fremont’s homestand continues with Titusville coming to town.
