Gary Sanchez and Alex Bregman also contributed with long balls, while Gabriel Moreno’s bat sparked crucial rallies. On the mound, Bowden Francis and Logan Gilbert anchored the rotation, each turning in strong starts and keeping the Chihuahuas’ bats in check. The Chihuahuas, while outmatched on paper, proved they could compete, pushing several games to the wire and flashing the potential to play spoiler down the stretch. With this series win, Chicago solidifies its position as a Central Division powerhouse, while Southwest Detroit, despite flashes of promise, continues to search for consistency as the season progresses. |

Columbus Explorers @ Bethesda Bandicoots |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | First place and world series contender Columbus visits NL East 2nd place pretender Bethesda for six. |
| Game #1: | Kutter Crawford was in the zone and limited the Explorers to just three hits while racking up nine strikeouts in a 3-0 series opener win for Bethesda. Ryan O’Hearn had two hits and drove in a run for Bethesda as pretty much the only offensive standout on both teams. |
| Game #2: | Brendan Donovan hammered a two-run shot in the second inning to give the Explorers a 2-1 edge but it was short-lived as the Bandicoots counted four in the 3rd inning and went on to win 8-3. Donovan also doubled in the game and was hit by a pitch. Bethesda’s favorite target, Jake McCarthy, also got beaned twice and knocked out for two days. That plonking cost Mitch Keller the rest of the game, but nailing three batters in just over three innings is pretty impressive. Donovan’s homer was his 8th. Connor Wong had three hits and scored two runs while Andrew Vaughn had three hits and drove in three runs. |
| Game #3: | The Bandicoots feasted on Mitchell Parker for four innings in a 10-1 win over Columbus. Parker (8-5) allowed 9 runs on 10 hits in just four innings although he did strike out four (but had three walks). Daulton Varsho (2) drove in the lone Columbus run with a home run while Shea Langeliers (9), Nick Castellanos (15) and Jose Siri (5) clubbed dingers for Bethesda. |
| Game #4: | Offensive torpedo tubes emptied in games two and three, the Dingoes had nothing and Toby Myers had everything as he tossed a no-hitter in a 4-0 Columbus win. Myers (8-4) struck out nine and walked three. Weston Wilson (1) and Pedro Pages (3) launched home runs for the winning Explorers. |
| Game #5: | David Peterson didn’t allow a hit until the 7th inning to extend Bethesda’s hitless streak to 17 innings in a pretty easy 7-3 win for Columbus. Don’t be fooled by the score. The game was not that close and we regarded the 3 Bethesda runs as charity. The no-hitter was broken up as it often is by a home run by Tyler Fitzgerald (4). Meanwhile on the winner’s side of the field, Brendan Donovan had two hits including a triple and drove in three while Daulton Varsho (3) homered again and drove in two. |
| Game #6: | Columbus looked like it was on its way to ending the series as a split as they were up 4-1 heading into the bottom of the 5th, but starter Alex Marsh was yanked with two outs in the inning. Babying the starter didn’t work out so well as he was replaced by Brennan Bernardino who promptly gave up a solo homer to Heston Kjerstad (1) to make it 4-2 and then lost the lead the next inning when pinch-hitter Nick Castellanos (16) smacked a two-run shot. Columbus had taken the lead earlier by pummelling Kutter Crawford with three long balls –Jared Triolo (5),Weston Wilson (2), and Brendan Donovan (9) which accounted for all of their runs. The 7th inning saw Edwin Diaz melt down and give up an RBI single to Andrew Vaughn which gave Bethesda a 5-4 lead and then a 3-run pinch hit homer (the second PH homer of the game) by Pavin Smith. And that was it. |
| Summary: | Bethesda takes 4 of 6 from Columbus. |

| Game #1: | Cooper Criswell (GST) vs Carmen Mlodzinski (FRE)
It doesn’t take long for Gainesville to get going, as Abraham Toro doubles in Colt Keith in the second. A single and steal puts Spencer Steer in scoring position in the 4th, but he is gunned down at the plate by Mike Yastrzemski after a Colt Keith single. Another single and walk loads the bases though, and Gleyber Torres brings in two with a single of his own to make it 3-0 GST. Gainesville scores another in the fifth, then a Yastrzemski error in the sixth contributes to two more runs as Gainesville goes up 6-0. Fremont doesn’t record a hit until the fifth inning. The Cannons finally get on the board in the sixth with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singling home Josh Rojas. A two-run HR from Carlos Correa in the eighth gives Fremont hope, but that’s as close as they’d get. Gainesville wins 6-3. The Swamp Things banged out 16 hits in this one. Connor Joe leads off the third with a double and Max Schuemann doubles him home for the first run of the game. With no one on and two outs in the fourth, Gainesville puts together a 4-run inning to go up 5-0. Fremont is again stifled by the Swamp Things pitching, as a solo HR from Nolan Gorman is all they would get. GST wins 5-1. Both starters struck out 10 in this one. W: Zach Eflin (3-0) HR: GST- none; FRE- Nolan Gorman (8) |

Shohei Ohtani sets the pace with a 1st-inning home run. The Cannons tack on two more in the second against Flaherty for the 3-0 lead. Ohtani homers for the second time to make it 5-0 in the fifth. Skubal cruises through seven scoreless innings, then Fremont adds on two more insurance runs. The Swamp Things finally get something going in the ninth, as Greg Weissert loads the bases and serves up a grand slam to Kevin Pillar, but that would be it as the Cannons win 7-4.
