Game #1: | Alamo ties the game with a pair of runs in the 7th and prevails with one in the 11th to win the opener. Ezequiel Tovar homered and knocked in 2 for Alamo. The Defenders bullpen limited Baltimore to a single hit, striking out 8, over 6 1/3 innings pitched.
DEFENDERS 5 / 10 / 3 |

DEFENDERS 2 / 6 / 0 |
Game #3: | Luis Castillo spins a 3-hit, complete game shutout as Alamo takes it 6-0. The Defenders pounded out 11 hits, including homeruns by Jake Cronenworth and Ezequiel Tovar.

Game #5: | Triple Creek 4-2 |
Game #6: | Tempe 1-0 |
Summary: | The Patriots limit the Tempers to only 11 runs over the six game series and take 4 of 6 games. |
Selkirk Steelers @ Columbus Explorers |
|
---|---|
Preview: | Selkirk comes to Columbus with the teams knotted for 2nd in the NL Central at 24-25 a game behind Tempe. Tempe is starting to come alive, Columbus is finding reality (still not certain how we are winning – must be Defense and semi-decent, but rotating pitchers). So Selkirk is looking to get their fires burning ….. NOTE: 2 potential candidates for Pitcher of the Week, and a No-Hitter?? |
Game #1: | All the offense was done by the 3rd and Salvador Perez drives in 4 runs, 1 in the 1st and 3 on a homer (4) in the 3rd. Columbus answers with a Enrique Hernandez long ball (2) in the bottom of the 3rd – but it was only for 2 runs, so 4-2 was the score – and the final. Max Fried was strong for 5.2 and Marsh was strong in his return from injury for Columbus. Columbus will miss Stubbs (1 day) and LeMahieu (3 days) after a collision on a pop foul. SEL 4-6-0 WP Fried (5-1) S R.Iglesias (12) COL 2-7-1 LP Marsh (1-2) |
Game #2: | Clarke Schmidt tosses a 3 hitter for 7 innings – 11 ks – NO runs and the bullpen finishes it off – however, save was not an option and the Explorers had a 5-0 lead when Schmidt left. Johan Rojas (2) homer, 2 runs, 2 rbis, 2 hits led the offense. Pete Alonso had 2 of the 3 Selkirk hits. SEL 0-3-0 LP Ryne Nelson (4-2) COL 5-7-1 WP Schmidt (2-3) |
Game #3: | J.P. Sears gives up single runs in the 1st 3 innings and then hits Salvador Perez in the 5th and gets tossed. Tossed maybe because 2 different Selkirk pitchers had plunked Explorer batters. Or it could have been because Perez had homered (5) off Sears. However, the reason 2 different Selkirk pitchers had already hurled beanballs was because Columbus plated 4 runs in the 2nd and another in the 3rd and started Kyle Gibson left the game. Columbus added another in the 4th and 6th for a nice 7-3 lead. Sosa was having a good day, 2 for 4 with 3 rbis. Marcus Semien makes it a bit tight with a 2 run homer (8) in the 9th, but Tim Herrin closes it out and Columbus wins it’s 2nd in a row. SEL 5-11-0 LP Gibson (4-1) COL 7-12-1 WP Bivens (2-0)S Herrin (11) |
Game #4: | With a chance to win 3 in a row, the Explorers get a great 8 inning 3 hit performance from #1 pick Tobias Myers – his only blemish, a 2 run Jesus A. Sanchez homer (5). That made it 2-1 after Columbus plated run in the 1st. But that was all Tyler Anderson gives up in his 5.1 innings and then Weaver, Miller and Iglesias blank Columbus for the final 3.2 innings for the 2-1 win! SEL 2-4-1 WP Anderson (3-3) S R. Iglesias (13) COL 1-8-0 LP Myers (4-3) |
Game #5: | Then the bottom falls out for Columbus – or the Steelers find some steel! 15 hits, 2 homers and 11 runs finds them on the lopsided end of an 11-0 blowout. That’s 11 runs in spite of 16 batters striking out – guess it doesn’t matter how the outs come. Dylan Cease on the other hand, fans 13, walks 2 but only faces 27 batters!! OH YES – HE TOSSES A NO-HITTER!!! Marcus Semien, 4 for 5, 3 runs, 2 rbis – homer (9). Garcia – homer (7) SEL 11-15-0 WP Cease (6-2) COL 0- 0-0 LP Parker (4-3) That puts Selkirk up by 1/2 a game with a 3-2 series lead. |
Game #6: | Max Fried and Alec Marsh square off for a game 1 rematch. Columbus scores 1 in the 1st and then Selkirk scores 2 on a Perkins homer (5) in the 3rd – it was beginning to feel like game 4. But then Columbus scores 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and never looked back. 6 different guys get rbis as the final reaches 6-3. SEL 3- 6-1 LP Fried (5-2) COL 6-10-0 WP Marsh (2-2) S Herrin (12) |
Game #7: | So the series is tied 3-3 heading into this game and the teams are still tied in the standings. And with the score tied 0-0 in the 6th, Garrett Stubbs hits a clutch rbi single to get Columbus on the board. In the 7th Jake McCarthy homers (2) to make it 2-0. And as noted in the preview, there are TWO Pitcher of the week candidates in this series. Clarke Schmidt again pitches 7 scoreless innings and notches his 2nd win of the week (2-0, 0 runs – probably won’t win over a no-hitter, but ….). Ryne Nelson was strong, but his offense came up with nada. SEL 0-7-0 LP Nelson (4-3) COL 2-3-0 WP Schmidt (3-3) S Diaz (2) |
Summary: | So Columbus wins an exciting series with lots of fireworks of hitting and pitching variety – lots of pitching stars. And for it’s prize, we get to go to Sacramento next week (and probably get our brains beat out). |

Final Score Hollywood 8 – Dallas 5 |
Game #7: | Cougars score 3 in the 7th to win their 4th game and Cole 2nd victory of the series.

Chicago Mobsters @ Fremont Cannons |
|
---|---|
Preview: | The best in the Central (Chicago) visits the best in the East (Fremont) in a battle for American League standing. |
Game #1: | Bryce Miller (CHI) vs Bailey Ober (FRE)
Bryce Miller loads the bases in the first, but the Cannons can’t capitalize. The hit-and-run gets runners on 1st and 3rd with one out for the Mobsters in the second but they are held scoreless. A Yordan Alvarez double is followed by a Riley Greene HR in the third to start the scoring, and Chicago goes up 2-0. A Nolan Gorman error moves the runner to 3rd for Jackson Chourio’s sac fly in the fourth to add to the Mobsters lead. Chicago gets two on with no outs in the fifth but fails to extend the lead. Shohei Ohtani final gets Fremont on the board with a solo HR in the bottom of the inning. Brant Hurter comes in for the seventh inning and gives up the tying 2-run HR to Elly de la Cruz to make it 3-3. Two batters later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hits a solo HR for the 4-3 Fremont lead. The Mobsters get two on in the ninth, but Sean Reid-Foley strikes out Riley Greene to end the game in a 4-3 Fremont win. W: Edwin Uceta (1-0) HR: CHI- Riley Greene (4); FRE- Elly de la Cruz (6), Shohei Ohtani (14), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (9) |
Game #2: | Hunter Brown (CHI) vs Charlie Morton (FRE)
Fremont gets two on with no outs in the third, but a failed sacrifice and two more outs later, it was still 0-0. The Cannons start off the scoring in the fourth with a Teoscar Hernandez solo HR. Joshua Rojas adds another HR in the fifth to put the Cannons up 2-0. A two-out single from Riley Green is followed by a Willy Adames HR in the sixth, and just like that it is tied 2-2. Doubles by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Elly de la Cruz in the bottom of the inning put Fremont back on top 3-2. Robert Suarez comes on in the eighth and promptly gives up back-to-back HRs to Jackson Chourio and Yandy Diaz to swing it in Chicago’s favor 4-3. Not done yet, Alex Bregman will single home Yordan Alvarez to go up 5-3. ELDC homers off of Devin Williams in the eighth to cut the lead to 5-4. He’s followed by Mike Yastrzemski’s two out triple, but the Cannons can’t bring in the tying run. The Mobsters go back to Brant Hurter, but this time he gets Fremont 1-2-3 in the ninth for the 5-4 Chicago victory. Elly de la Cruz gos 3-4 with two doubles and a homer. W: Aroldis Chapman (2-0) HR: CHI- Jackson Chourio (6), Yandy Diaz (5), Willy Adames (9); FRE- Teoscar Hernandez (9), Elly de la Cruz (7), Joshua Rojas (3) |
Game #3: | Seth Lugo (CHI) vs Walker Buehler (FRE)
Shohei Ohtani gets the crowd going in the first to make it 1-0. The Cannons extend the lead to 2-0 with Dairon Blanco’s HR. Willy Adames’s HR on the fourth cuts the lead to 2-1, but Blanco’s RBI single in the bottom of the inning gets Fremont back on top by two runs. Luis Arraez comes in to pinch-hit in the seventh and drives in Julio Rodriguez from third with a double, cutting the lead to 3-2 Fremont. The Cannons get two on with one out in the eighth but don’t get the insurance run. Edwin Uceta comes on to close it out and the Mobsters go three up, three down to fall to Fremont 3-2. W: Walker Buehler (3-2) HR: CHI- Willy Adames (10); FRE- Shohei Ohtani (15), Dairon Blanco (3) |
Game #4: | Logan Gilbert (CHI) vs Tarik Skubal (FRE)
Gilbert gives up 4 runs in 3.0 IP, while Skubal gives up 2 runs in 3.1 IP, but it doesn’t matter as the game gets rained out in the 4th. |
Game #5: | Hogan Harris (CHI) vs Carlos Rodon (FRE)
In a sign of things to come, Jackson Chourio leads off with a grounder that Rodon muffs. Rodon loads the bases, and Alex Bregman delivers the two-out single to bring in 2 for the Mobsters. Byron Buxton gets one back for the Cannons with a solo HR in the second. A Vladimir Guerrero Jr. error in the fourth doesn’t lead to any runs for Chicago. The bottom of the fourth looks promising for Fremont with runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs, but a lineout double play helps keep the Cannons from scoring any. A Dylan Moore solo blast in the fifth extends the Mobsters lead to 3-1. Heading to the ninth, a tight game becomes untight as Julio Rodriguez’s popup to lead off the inning is dropped by Joey Bart. After getting two on, Dylan Morre strikes again with a 2-run double. A Yordan Alvarez single then makes it 6-1. The Cannons get two on in the ninth but bring no one home, with Chicago winning 6-1. Ther Cannons allowed 5 unearned runs in the loss. W: Hogan Harris (1-0) HR: CHI- Dylan Moore (1); FRE- Byron Buxton (5) |
Game #6: | Bryce Miller (CHI) vs Bailey Ober (FRE)
Teoscar Hernandez’s HBP in the first sends him to the bench for 3 days, but also loads the bases with 2 outs, but Miller gets the flyout to end it. Yandy Diaz gets the scoring started with a solo HR in the fourth to put Chicago up 1-0. Dairon Blanco’s leadoff double in the bottom of the inning goes nowhere. The Mobsters get another in the seventh with Matt Wallner’s walk, steal, advancement to third on a groundout, and sac fly courtesy of Alex Bregman makes it 2-0. The Cannons have a chance in the eighth as Devin Williams walks two, but Williams gets Byron Buxton and Dairon Blanco out to end that threat. Again in the ninth a walk and HBP puts two on for the Cannons with no outs, but two flyouts and a foul out ends the game. Chicago wins the finale 2-0. Fremont leaves 10 on base in the shutout. W: Bryce Miller (3-2) HR: CHI- Yandy Diaz (6); FRE- none |
Summary: | Chicago takes the shortened series 3-2 and moves a game behind Fremont. Most of the games were close with the exception of Game 5. Skubal wants another shot at the Mobsters.
Next week, Chicago hosts Corktown in their first matchup, while the Cannons travel to Hollywood. |
