| Game #1: | Game one of the series goes to Titusville 4-1 as Lodolo puts together a strong outing of one run baseball over six and two-thirds innings worked. Bryan Reynolds puts together a nice day at the plate going 3-4 with a home-run. |
| Game #2: | Game two of the series is a high-scoring affair as Hollywood evens it up with an 8-7 win. The Werewolves’ bats were firing on all cylinders as Justyn-Henry Malloy and Spencer Horwitz combined for six of their eight rbi’s, each totaling one round-tripper a piece. |
| Game #3: | Game three of the series goes back to Titusville 5-2 as the rely yet on another strong outing, this time from Griffin Canning going seven innings of two-run ball. Bryan Reynolds came through for the Super Sonics again bringing in 3 out of their 5 runs. Eugenio Suarez stays hot at the plate continuing his hit streak. |
| Game #4: | Game four of the series was an absolute slugfest as it went back and forth throughout the entire game. Hollywood came out on top 13-11. Aaron Judge had a fine day at the plate with two round-trippers. The Werewolves combined for five homeruns while Titusville almost matched the total with four of their own. |
| Game #5: | Game five goes back to Hollywood in another close affair 6-5. Aaron Judge hit his third home-run of the series. Will Brennan brought plenty of production with a round-tripper of his own while scoring three of the six runs totaled. |
| Game #6: | Game six of the series finds Titusville back on top after dropping two straight, winning it 5-3. Tanner Houck put together eight strong innings while giving up three earned runs. Prairie Falcons @ Sacramento Capitals |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Prairie flies home after a weeklong trip in Tampa Bay where they started the year 2-3…This week Sacramento and their newly polished team of stars comes into town. These guys are thinking Division Title, National League Champs and ultimately bringing home the title…Priarie on the other hand – is not built for that kind of mojo, we are competative but only to a certain extent…let’s see how it all played out… |
| Game #1: | Shoata Imanaga vs Ryan Pepiot and the Birds get 2 in the first inning on a throwing error and that is capped off by a DING DONG – Giancarlo Stanton with his 3rd of the season and this one comes against his former team…3-0 till the 4th when SAC gets 2 back and then a solo shot by Kerry Carpenter in the 6th ties it up 3-3…we finish 9 deadlocked at 3, then finish the 10th deadlocked at 3 and in the top of the 11th DL Hall gets wild walking the bases loaded and then Michael Massey gets a SF to take a 4-3 lead…Taylor Scott comes in and gives up a double to Benny doubles..Yoshida singles…Schanuel walks and Burger lays down the SAC and puts runners on 2nd and 3rd 1 out….who is up??? You guessed it…GIANCARLO STANTON….pitch from the grade 22 and Blasted – deep to Left….going going????? Off the wall so who cares both runners score and Falcons win it on the Stanton double 5-4 in 11 innings…. |
| Game #2: | Glasnow vs Eovaldi
Glasnow is a CIV…he got Louis LITT up for all you SUITS binge watchers out there – no Harvey Spectrum for Glasnow…5 earned runs in 1.1 innings and a early shower for him… Falcons added a 6th run in the 4th off Matsui and that luckily was all we needed as Sacramento got 3 homers- 2 from Rooker and 1 from Lindor and closed the gap down to 1 in the 9th but Grade 3Z Phil Bickford shut the door and Falcons take the 2nd game in a row….6-5 in only 9 instead of 11 innings. Benintendi led the Falcons offense with 3 hits a double and a homer.. |
| Game #3: | Ross vs Boyd
Boyd was cruising thru 7 with shutout ball but int he 8th Rooker with a long ball, Carpenter and Massey with rbi doubles and they tie it up 5-5 just like that… it stays that way thru regulation when the zamboni comes out clears the ice for some overtime…Tyler Stephenson the ex Falcon rips a long ball off Bickford and gives the Capitals and Alex Ovechin the overtime winner 6-5…But wait what about the Falcons 5 runs get plated? Glad you asked…GIANCARLO, GIANCARLO, GIANCARLO….yep a natural HAT Trick – 3 more ding dongs ..Yoshida put one up as well… Juan Yepez lost for 13 days and Felix Fermin gone for 10… |
| Game #4: | Wesneski vs Paddock
This one got wild…and it was not good for the bullpens – ok mostly not good for the Capitals bullpen…They used 5 relievers and ended up giving up 9 runs and the only one not scored on was Matsui who got 1 out in the 8th to end the inning…the rest got shelled…for the Birds it wasnt much better with 2 of the 3 releivers giving up 2 runs a piece but the last one was the difference maker as Adbert Alzolay the All star from a year ago tossed 2.1 shutout innings of relief…the Starters for both teams both gave up 6+ runs…final score PRA 16 – SAC 11 Taylor scott gives up 2 more in his loss and Koepch gives up 5 it was an ugly day for pitching…Stephenson, Rooker and Busch homered for Caps…while Benintendi, Robert and GIANCARLO homered for the Falcons…Ben Rotvedt had 4 hits…not bad for our 8th guy in lineup. |
| Game #5: | It’s a SALE Day
Sale vs Yamamoto Ymamoto wins this battle tossing 6 shutout innings before giving way to Kelly Bickford and Alzolay….Falcons get 2 in the first and 3 int he 6th of Sale helped also by a throwing error on Sale himself to plate 5 big runs – Homer by Hold the Pick Burger…no Stanton highlights today…an ernie Clement solo shot and rbi double by Profar got 2 of those 5 runs back but way too late to make a difference. PRA 5 – SAC 2 |
| Game #6: | Imanaga vs Pepiot
Falcons get a run off a solo shot by Yoshida but SAC comes rihgt back with a 2 run blast by Profar….in the 4th Stanton bounces into a DP but it scores a run and ties it 2-2…but top of the 5th and another ex falcon Marc Vientos doubles home a run and its back to a 1 run lead. The pen gates open up and this time the boys of summer toss 3.2 shutout innings of releif and despite 2.2 scoreless innings by Nate Dogg Pearson that 1 run lead held serve…SAC 3 PRA 2 |
| Game #7: | Glasnow vs Eovaldi…
UGLY for the Falcons 7-0 win for SAC Glasnow 6 innings 8 whiffs, Vesia 3 shutout innings of relief…offense got homers from Garcia, Busch and Lindor… |
| Summary: | Falcons win series 4-3 so it was much tighter than I exepcted it to be…GIANCARLO wound up going 9-25 with 5 DINGERS against his old team…Taylor Scott took 2 losses which I am sure not what Sacramento thought they were paying for this year. Falcons reach the 6-6 mark and head to YRR next week while Sacramento goes home to host Tampa Bay. |

Cincinnati Skyliners @ Coconut Creek Crushers |

| Game #1: | CCC scores 4 in the 1st and the bullpen makes it hold up. CCC wins 4-3 |
| Game #2: | Kikuchi and Schwellenbach both surrender 4 runs. Game tied at 4-4. An untimely error allows CCC to win in 10 Innings 5-4. |
| Game #3: | CCC scores 3 in the 1st and again the pitching makes it hold up. CCC wins 3-2. |
| Game #4: | Littell only gives up 2 hits as CIN cruises 5-1. |
| Game #5: | 3 unearned runs cost Hunter Greene as CIN wins 6-3. |
| Game #6: | CIN was cruising along until the 7th. CCC offense wakes up and plates 4 runs. CCC escapes with a 6-5 win. |
| Summary: | CCC wins the series 4-2. All four wins coming by one run. |
Arboga Rats @ Bethesda Bandicoots |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Arboga stormed in to Bethesda after registering a 7-game sweep in the first week of the season while Bethesda, a shadow of the team it was last season, struggled through a 4-3 start for the season. |
| Game #1: | The Rats scored early with Matt Vierling narrowly missing a homer to deep right, but it was enough to allow Otto Lopez to moonwalk home from 3rd and give Arboga a 1-0 lead after one. Rats’ start Brady Singer was on point and had the Bandicoots zombie shuffling through the first four innings without so much as a baserunner. The Coots must have smelled brains in the 3rd though as they hit three doubles and counted as many runs to make it 3-1 after five. Jeff McNeil launched a solo shot to deep right in the 7th to make it 4-1 and that is how it ended with Josh Hader coming in for a five-out save.Singer left after the homer and although he had good control in the game (one walk versus seven Ks), he was very hittable with 11 hits allowed. W-Kirby (1-0) L-Singer (1-1) Sv-Hader (1) HR-BET: McNeil (1) |
| Game #2: | Well, OK. A bit of a head scratcher, but we will take it. Kutter Crawford befuddled the Rats and held them to three singles and one walk in a 4-0 Bethesda win. Crawford kept his ERA at 0.00 with the complete game shutout that included eight strikeouts. Connor Wong gave Langeliers a break behind the plate and it wound up looking like a briliant move as the Red Sox catcher went 4/4 with three doubles and two RBIs. W-Crawford (2-0) L-Suarez (1-1) HR-none |
| Game #3: | As shocking as the previous pitching performance was, Game Three took the cake with Reid Detmers who spent much of the 2024 MLB season tossing batting practice tossed a 11-strikeout one-hitter in Bethesda’s 6-0 win. Jonny Deluca had the lone hit but was snuffed out as he was nailed by Connor Wong while trying to steal 2nd base. Shea Langeliers and Jeff McNeil homered off Arboga starter Spence. W-Detmers (2-0) L-Spence (1-1) HR-BET: Langeliers (1), McNeil (2) |
| Game #4: | Arboga came into the game hoping the one-day break between games and Garrett Crochet on the mound would spark a change of fortune. It didn’t. The Rats could only manage one run with five hits against Alex Cobb and Company while Jake Meyers had a good enough game himself to lead Bethesda to a 3-1 win. Crochet pitched decently with only seven hits and two walks allowed in the complete game loss while fanning 11, but two of the hits left the park. Cobb went seven and gave up just one run on four hits with four strikeouts. The Bandicoots took the lead in the 2nd inning on a blooper to shallow right by Jose Siri which Joc Pederson and second baseman Otto Lopez almost tracked down. Instead they collided though with each going down to multi-game injuries – Pederson for 5 days and Lopez for 15. Sorry. 🙁 W-Cobb (2-0) Sv-Rogers (1) L-Crochet (2-1) HR-BET: Meyers (1), DeJong (3) |
| Game #5: | The Bandicoots took advantage of a one-out throwing error by Trea Turner in the 1st inning to count six times … all unearned supposedly … as they pummelled Nestor Cortes Jr. and the Rats in a 9-1 win. The Rats lone run came up in the 4th inning on a ground out by Adley Rutschman. Jorge Soler had two hits for the Rats while Connor Wong was 1/2 with three walks and a run scored and an RBI for Bethesda. W-Keller (2-1) L-Cortes (2-1) HR-BET:Castellanos(4), Siri (1) |
| Game #6: | George Kirby fanned 11 and held Arboga to five hits to complete a bizarre and very unlikely series sweep with a 3-1 win for Bethesda. All three of the Bandicoots’ runs were unearned supposedly with Jon Singleton botching an easy grounder by Andruw Monasterio. Jeff McNeil followed with a hit and run single moving Monasterio to 3rd base and then he scored on Connor Wong’s ground out. Ryan O’Hearn then followed with a line drive to the opposite field that cleared the wall to make it 3-0. The Rats scored in the 7th when Lowe opened with a double who then scored on Trea Turner’s single. W-Kirby (2-0) L-Singer (1-2) HR-BET: O’Hearn (3) |
| Summary: | Well, this won’t happen again any time soon. Bethesda holds Arboga to four runs in six games in a sweep. |
Triple Creek Patriots @ Columbus Explorers |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | After a stunning week 1 performance hosting the Evil Empire, can the Explorers find more magic, or will Triple Creeks steady rotation wear down the Columbus bats into oblivion??? |
| Game #1: | Opening game – and season opener for Clarke Schmidt, and it was a day he’d like to forget. He does go 5.1 and if you throw out the 4 runs (yes, 4 runs) he gave up in the 3rd, he did alright! But there was that 4 run 3rd to live with. At least he didn’t give up the 2 homers that Triple Creek hit later – Bellinger (1) and India (2) – guess that means the Patriots scored more than 4. They certainly did – 6 more – all in the 8th for a 10 run, 10 hit day! Nootbar didn’t even homer, but he tallies 3 rbis – triple! Winker, Bellinger and India each had 2 hits. OH – and Gausman goes the distance tossing a 7 hitter, 2 runs, 9 ks. Not too shabby!
TCP 10-10-1 WP Gausman (2-0) |
| Game #2: | Columbus however, regains dignity with a relatively easy (though it looks closer) win. 1 in the 1st, 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 5th staked David Peterson to a nice 6-0 lead. Jake McCarthy bombed his 1st dinger of the year for the home town fans. Peterson leaves after 7, 2 hits, 1 run, 6 ks. Then in the 9th, to make things interesting, Jesse Winker his a 1 out 3 run homer (1) making it look close. Well, it did get close because because Tim Herrin did come in with the tying run at the plate!!
TCP 4-7-1 LP Lorenzen (0-2) |
| Game #3: | Columbus excited to get back in the win column grabs a 2-0 lead in the 2nd on a D.J. LeMahieu homer (2), but then the Patriots plate 3 in the 3rd to grab a lead they never relinquish. Teams swap runs in the 5th and then the Patriots score 2 in the 7th and 3 big ones in the 8th to run away with the game, 9-4. Winker gets 3 hits, 2 runs, Smith smacks a 2 run triple! Seager and Bellinger with 2 rbis apiece.
TCP 9-12-1 WP Kremer (2-0) CG, 7 ks |
| Game #4: | After a day off, things settle down a bit as former Explorer Jose Quintana comes out to meet his old team. And he blanks Columbus for 4 innings and has a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th. That’s when we pull the old – we’ve been nice long enough old chum, but now we’re going to hit you like we did in practice. Columbus scores 2 in the 5th, 6th and one in the 7th – Urshela homer (1) before Quintana is lifted. Triple Creek did score 2 in their 6th which make it 3-2 Patriots giving them some hope, but Columbus didn’t lay down. The final 5-3 was another save for Tim Herrin.
TCP 3-7-2 LP Quintana (0-2) |
| Game #5: | Series tied 2-2 and that’s when Columbus hits a wall – either they couldn’t field a consistent lineup for the Patriots pitchers figured out how to be dominate. Patriots starter for game 5 had a Knack for getting out the Columbus hitters – he faced 30 batters going the distance, 3 measly hits, 7 ks no Ws and NO RUNS!! And he got a 3 run homer from Neto (1) and a 2 run homer from Schmitt (1). Those 5 runs were all he needed – actually overkill.
TCP 5-9-0 WP Knack (1-1) |
| Game #6: | And it got worse – Gausman does his thing again, going the distance for a big win- 2 hitter, 1 UNEARNED un, 6 walks were his only weakness. And did he get help? Up, Clarke Schmidt’s 2nd start was worse than the 1st on. He goes 3 scoreless innings then gives up SIX runs in the 4th and a 3 run homer to India (3). Miranda gets 3 hits, 2 runs, Winker 2 runs (2 rbis) – off to a great start for the Patriots. Smith and Canha alos chip in 2 hits apiece (out of 12). Dust settled, the final was 8-1 Triple Creek!
TCP 8-12-1 WP Gausman (3-0) |
| Summary: | What looked sort of promising ended up more like an expected 4-2 series loss. Triple Creek is solid – maybe not spectaclular – but VERY SOLID. Gausman’s 2 low scoring CGs put him in line maybe for Pitcher of the week! |
Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Baltimore Comets |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Long Beach got off to a quick, 5-2, start, while Baltimore looks to win their first game of the season, after dropping all 6 games in their initial 2025 series. |
| Game #1: | Baltimore outhits the Dirt Bags 15-12, but Long Beach comes out on top, where it counts, in the score. Joey Ortiz, Sam Hilliard, and Tyler Soderstrom each had 3 hits, and Hilliard added 4 RBIs for the Dirt Bags. Josh Bell had 3 hits for the Comets.
DIRT BAGS 9 / 12 / 0 |
| Game #2: | Comets strand the tying run on 3rd in the bottom of the 9th and drop another one to the Dirt Bags. Baltimore once again outhits Long Beach but can’t come up with the key hits when needed.
DIRT BAGS 4 / 5 / 1 |
| Game #3: | A big 6-run 5th puts the Dirt Bags in front, and Long Beach would take a 10-5 lead into the bottom of the 9th. The Comets would get one back and would load the bases, bring the tying run to the plate, but once again the big hit proves elusive and Long Beach holds on. Mike Tauchman had 3 hits and Dane Myers had 2 hits and 4 RBIs to lead the Dirt Bags. Jorg Polanco hit a 3-run homerun for Baltimore.
DIRT BAGS 10 / 13 / 1 |
| Game #4: | For the 3rd time in four games, the Comets outhit Long Beach but lose the game. Grant McCray had 2 hits and 4 RBIs for the Dirt Bags, Jose Tena and Wenceel Perez each had a pair of hits for Baltimore.
DIRT BAGS 8 / 7 / 3 |
| Game #5: | AIM issues start to hit Long Beach and Baltimore takes advantage and ends its 10-game losing streak to start the season. Hunter Renfroe’s 2-run homerun in the 3rd puts Baltimore in front and the Comets hold on for the one run victory.
DIRT BAGS 2 / 6 / 0 |
| Game #6: | Comets win another one-run game to run their winning streak to 2 games. Bryson Stott and Hunter Renfroe go deep and Maikel Garcia has 3 hits for Baltimore. Jeremy Pena had 3 hits and 2 RBIs and Daz Cameron had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for Long Beach.
DIRT BAGS 4 / 10 / 0 |
| Game #7: | Baltimore was on their way to a 3-game winning streak before the bullpen yields 5 runs in the final 2-innings, to cough up the victory. Long Beach hit 3 homeruns, and Niko Kavadas had a single, double, and 4 RBis.
DIRT BAGS 8 / 11 / 0 |
| Summary: | Long Beach wins 5 of 7, to go 10-4 in the early going, but find themselves with some serious AIM issues heading into the next series, with 8 position players either worn out or bushed. Baltimore is in better shape, but licking their wounds after dropping 11 of 13 to open the season |
Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas @ Fremont Cannons |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Last year Fremont resoundingly beat Southwest Detroit in the regular season 11 games to 2 on their way to the AL East title, but the Fighting Chihuahuas got the last laugh by bouncing the Cannons out of the first round of the playoffs 4 games to 1. The teams are expected to be in a tight battle for the division this year as well and meet up early for a 7-game series. |
| Game #1: | Corbin Burnes (SWD) vs Tarik Skubal (FRE)
Southwest Detroit has a chance to take the lead in the first. A Wyatt Langford double leads off the game, but on the next play he is cut down at the plate trying to score on a Tarik Skubal throwing error. They put two on with no outs in the second but fail to score there as well. Wyatt Langford gives the Fighting Chihuahuas their first score of the series by leading off the eighth with a HR that chases Skubal. SWD tacks on another to tie it after an Heliot Ramos walk, SB, and RBI single by Willson Contreras. Brendan Rodgers leads off the ninth with a walk, and pinch-runner Zach McKinstry steals second. After a sac bunt, McKinstry is at third with one out. Sean Reid-Foley strikes out the next two batters to end the threat. Sean Moll has to face the heart of Fremont’s lineup in the ninth. After getting Shohei Ohtani and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. out, Byron Buxton ends it with a walk-off HR and Fremont wins 3-2. Reid-Foley gets the win in his first action of the year. Fremont only strikes out 4 times in the win. W: Sean Reid-Foley (1-0) HR: SWD- none; FRE- Byron Buxton (1) |
| Game #2: | Ranger Suarez (SWD) vs Bailey Ober (FRE)
Southwest Detroit sees another first inning chance cut down at the plate, as Teoscar Hernandez guns down Heliot Ramos at the plate to stop the early threat. Ramos does manage to score in the third, after a double then being singled home by Willson Contreras. Fremont ties it back up in the fourth with an RBI single from Carlos Correa. Bailey Ober is ejected after 4.2 IP after his third HBP leading to a bases-loaded situation for SWD, but Edwin Uceta gets the final out. A Yimi Garcia WP puts SWD on top 2-1 in the sixth. A Brendan Rodgers two-out triple in the seventh extends the lead to 4-1. The Chihuahuas tack 3 more on in the eighth to take a big 7-1 lead. That’s all the scoring there would be as SWD evens the series. SWD bangs out 14 hits, with Christian Walker going 4-4. David Hensley commits two errors for the Cannons. W: Ranger Suarez (2-0) HR: none |
| Game #3: | Andrew Abbott (SWD) vs Garrett Whitlock (FRE)
Fremont is the first to threaten in the second, but Carlos Correa is gunned down at home by Harrison Bader. A single and error puts Heliot Ramos on second with no outs in the fourth, but SWD is unable to capitalize. Fremont wonders what could have been in the bottom of the frame as Shohei Ohtani is caught stealing at second, then Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is picked off at first. Fremont breaks the scoreless draw with a two run Shohei Ohtani HR in the sixth. Southwest wastes no time, threatening in the seventh. Whitlock is pulled after a pair of walks. After a Brendan Rodgers sac bunt to put runners at 2nd and 3rd, Harrison Bader singles to right to bring in one run, but William Contreras is thrown out at the plate by Teoscar Hernandez to limit it to 2-1 Fremont. SWD threatens again in the eighth with a single and steal by Wyatt Langford. A successful sacrifice by CJ Abrams puts the runner on third with one out, but Robert Suarez strikes out the next two to end the inning. Southwest Detroit gets one more chance in the ninth with a two-out double by Brendan Rodgers, but Sean Reid-Foley is able to induce a groundout to end the game. Fremont wins 2-1. W: Garrett Whitlock (2-0) HR: SWD- none; FRE- Shohei Ohtani (4) |
| Game #4: | Carson Fulmer (SWD) vs Charlie Morton (FRE)
Southwest Detroit starts off the scoring in the third. After loading the bases, Willson Contreras singles home two. A wild pitch puts runners at 2nd and 3rd, the a broken-bat single from William Contreras brings them home as well to make it 4-0 SWD. Like in Game 2, FRE has issues with HBP; fortunately, the umpire thinks Carson Fulmer is retaliating after plunking a Fremont batter and is tossed after just 2.0 IP. Unfortunately, that also leads to a 4-day injury to Josh Rojas. Fremont can’t take advantage right away, but finally does so in the sixth. After loading the bases, a double off the wall by Nolan Gorman brings in two. A broken-bat single from Jose Iglesias brings in the other two to tie it at 4-4. The Cannons pile on in the seventh with homers from Shohei Ohtani, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Dairon Blanco to make it 9-4 Fremont. A Harrison Bader two-run double in the eighth cuts the lead to 9-6. SWD gets the first two batters on base in the top of the ninth, but Edwin Uceta gets the next three batters to clinch the 9-6 Fremont win. W: Charlie Morton (2-1) HR: SWD- none; FRE- Shohei Ohtani (5), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (2), Dairon Blanco (1) |
| Game #5: | Reynaldo Lopez (SWD) vs Carlos Rodon (FRE)
Fremont tries to get on the board in the first but Shohei Ohtani is thrown out at the plate. Willson Contreras homers in the second to give Southwest Detroit the 1-0 lead. A Byron Buxton RBI double in the fourth ties it at one apiece. Wyatt Langford answers right back with a solo shot in the fifth to put the Fighting Chihuahuas back on top. It’s danger time as SWD loads the bases in the seventh, but Willson Contreras grounds out to end the threat. A walk and steal in the ninth puts Harrison Bader in scoring position, but the Chihuahuas cannot pad the 2-1 lead. Ryan Helsley comes on for the save facing the heart of the Cannons lineup. With one out Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ties it with a solo HR. Byron Buxton follows with a double but is stranded to send it to extra innings tied 2-2. In the 10th, after Willson Contreras walks, William Contreras sends one down the line, but Contreras #1 is held at third. Yimi Garcia strikes out Brendan Rodgers to end the inning. A walk and steal gets Nolan Gorman on second with no outs, but Tommy Kahnle strikes out the next three batters. SWD goes three up, three down in the top of the eleventh. Shohei Ohtani leads off the top of the eleventh with a double. A Vladimir Guerrero Jr. single looks likely to bring him home, but he is cut down by Wyatt Langford. All it does is set up the heroics again by Byron Buxton, as he launches a 2-run HR to win it for the Cannons 4-2 in 11 innings. Reynaldo Lopez struck out 10 in the loss. Ryan McMahon struck out 4 times. W: Yimi Garcia (1-1) HR: SWD- Wyatt Langford (3), Willson Contreras (1); FRE- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (3), Byron Buxton (2) |
| Game #6: | Corbin Burnes (SWD) vs Tarik Skubal (FRE)
Southwest Detroit is first in the board with an error, HBP, and RBI single by Brendan Rodgers in the fourth. In the fifth, David Hensley’s first hit of the season is a double, and Jose Iglesias singles him in to tie it at 1-1. With two on and two out in the eighth, Teoscar Hernandez and Elly de la Cruz each bring in a run. Mike Yastrzemski then steps up and crushes a 3-run HR to give Fremont the 6-1 lead. SWD doesn’t score again and Fremont wins it 6-1. Skubal strikes out 12 in the win. W: Tarik Skubal (2-0) |
| Game #7: | Ranger Suarez (SWD) vs Bailey Ober (FRE)
A walk and error puts runners on 1st and 3rd for SWD in the first, but a double play means no one scores. Doubles by Shohei Ohtani and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and a single from Carlos Correa gives Fremont a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the inning. Wyatt Langford singles in the third; that is the only hit that Southwest Detroit would pick up in the game. Fremont loads the bases in the bottom of the frame, and a GIDP results in a run getting across. Fremont puts it away in the eighth with a 2-run HR from Vladimir Guerrero and an RBI double from Elly de la Cruz. Fremont wins it 6-0. The Cannons total seven doubles, three of them by Shohei Ohtani. Fremont has two one-hitters through two weeks. |
| Summary: | Fremont makes a big statement to stake an early claim to the AL East title with a 6-1 series victory. As seen last year, that guarantees nothing in the playoffs.
Next week, Southwest Detroit hosts divisional foe Motor City for 7 games, while Fremont hosts former divisional foe Dallas for six. |
