Gomes rbi single for Tempe in the 4th was the first run of the game. Cole went five hittless innings. A two run homer by Palacios in the 6th gave Tempe a 4-0 lead. Gomes two rbi single in 7th put it away. Kim hit a two run homer off Cisnero in the 8th to breakup the shutout. Tempe 6-2 W – Cole (17-2), L – Stephan (3-2) |
Game #2: | Arboga got one in the 1st after a Rutschman double. Singer had a perfect game through 3.2 innings, but then a walk, two hits and homerun from Albies made it 4-1 Tempe. Martinez solo’ed in 6th. Tempe 6-1 W – Gray (12-4), L – Singer (1-5) |
Game #3: | Syndergaard vs. Verlander Turner got things going with a two run homer in the 1st. The Rats added another run in the 2nd and 5th to give Syndergaard a commanding 4-0 lead. Tempe finally got to Syndergaard in the 6th on a Bogaerts two run homer. Pederson hit his second homer of the day in 7th. Tempe’s bench hit two solo homers in the 8th, but Karninchak came on and shut things down.W – Syndergaard (5-4), L – Verlander (13-5) S – Karinchak (1) |

Coconut Creek Crushers @ Gainsville Swamp Things |
|
---|---|
Preview: | Coconut Creek heads to Gainesville. Both teams are in 2nd place of their respective divisions and either 4 or 4.5 out of the lead, but the records aren’t very close. |
Game #1: | Coconut Creek 7 Gainesville 6W: C. Martin (2-2) L: D. Coulombe (3-4) S: R. Stephenson (24) |
Game #2: | Coconut Creek 9 Gainesville 4W: J. Musgrove (6-5) L: Z. Eflin (10-5) |
Game #3: | Coconut Creek 8 Gainesville 6 (11)W: C. Martin (3-2) L: J. Foley (1-4) |
Game #4: | Coconut Creek 2 Gainesville 1 (11)W: D. Robertson (3-3) L: H. Milner (6-4) S: R. Stephenson (25) |
Game #5: | Coconut Creek 6 Gainesville 4W: L. Webb (12-4) L: K. Freeland (2-7) S: H. Neris (2) |
Game #6: | Gainesville 7 Coconut Creek 1W: G. Marquez (2-2) L: E. Cabrera (5-6) |
Summary: | Coconut Creek dominates in the win column taking 5 of 6, although the series was incredibly tight. 4 of their wins were by 1 or 2 runs including 2 that went 11 innings. That is truly the difference for a team that is contending versus a team just scratching to be around .500 and sneaking into the playoffs. Gainesville continues to be one of the worst teams in both 1 run and extra-inning games sporting a 9-20 and 2-11 record respectively. The loss in game 6 for Coconut Creek snapped a 9-game winning streak which was crucial to attempt to stay within striking distance of Hollywood. Unless something absolutely absurd happens, Coconut Creek will be a team to be worried about come the postseason. |
Chicago Mobsters @ Hollywood Werewolves |
|
---|---|
Summary: | Hollywood takes 5 of 6. Game 5 featured back-to-back-to-back Hollywood homers in the 6th by (newly acquired) Walls-Goldschmidt-Thomas |

Yucaipa Road Runners @ Bethesda Bandicoots |
|
---|---|
Preview: | Temporarily riding the wave Bethesda meets up with rebuilding Yucaipa for six games. |
Game #1: | Aledmys Diaz doubled in a run in the 7th as the Bandicoots came from behind to win 3-2 over Yucaipa. Each team managed just four hits in the contest with Johnny Brito (0-4) and Reid Detmers doing a solid job on the mound for the teams. Newly acquired Jesse Chavez got into the action with a scoreless inning which earned him the win and Josh Hader (18) had a 3-up, 3-down 9th for the save. Diaz (4) also homered for Bethesda. |
Game #2: | Ryan O’Hearn swatted his 6th homer of the year as Bethesda captured its second win in a row over Yucaipa 5-3. Adam Duvall was 3/3 but didn’t factor into the scoring while TJ Friedl had two hits and scored twice for Bethesda. Vincent Velasquez (4-6) got smacked with the loss after giving up four runs on six hits and a couple of walks in just over 4 innings. Michael Wacha improved to 10-5 with eight solid innings of work and Josh Hader’s perfect 9th earned him his 19 th save. |
Game #3: | It took three homers by the Bandicoots, but they held off the Road Runners (but just barely) for a 7-6 win. The Road Runners came within 90 feet of tying the game but after Tyler Rogers gave up a run in the 9th he was able to get CJ Cron to fly out to left to end the game. Adams (3) homered and drove in two runs for Yucaipa with BRyce Turang driving in two with a double. Cron also had two hits. Ryan O’Hearn (7), Shea Langeliers (8) and Yu Chang (16) went deep for Bethesda. George Kirby was far from dominating but he did manage to fan eight in seven innings and improve to 15-4 on the year. |
Game #4: | Mitch Keller (10-6) was very good but did not need to be as the Bandicoots smacked around the Yucaipa pitching in a 10-0 win. Vavra did have two hits for the Road Runner, but only Florial managed an extra base hit – a double in the 6th. Keller’s complete game included six strikeouts and three walks with 5 hits allowed. Jeff McNeil (8), Adam Duvall (20) and Pavin Smith (4) homered for the Bandicoots. TJ Friedl was hit by pitches twice and somehow managed to avoid a trip to the DL. |
Game #5: | The bottom of the Bethesda batting order came alive and drove in five runs in a 7-4 win over Yucaipa. Hunter Gaddis (0-2) was chased in the 5th inning after allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks, but not before smacking Shea Langeliers in the elbow and knocking him out for a week. The streaking Vavra was 3/3 on the day for Yucaipa with a walk, but it was Adams (4) and Cooper (11) that went deep to account for their runs. Adam Duvall (21) and Pavin Smith (5) homered for Bethesda. |
Game #6: | The Bandicoots completed the sweep with an excruciating pitching staff-killing 16-inning affair that ended 6-5 with Ryan McKenna lining a ball into the left field gap with Yu Chang on 3rd base to end it. Jesse Chavez actually earned a relief with with 3-1/3 innings of one-hit ball with Yucaipa counterpart Phil Maton doing only slightly worse as he allowed the one run in 5-1/3 innings of relief. Cooper and crazy bat Vavra each had two hits for Yucaipa with Jeff McNeil and Nick Castellanos each getting four hits for Bethesda. |
Summary: | A lot of very close games which left us feeling extremely lucky to just win the series let alone sweep Yucaipa. |

Game #5: | Freddy Peralta (SBL) vs Kodai Senga (FRE)
Finally an exciting game. Southbend looks to have it won, going into the ninth up 6-3. A walk and infield single put two on for pinch-hitter Nolan Gorman, who sent it into the stands to tie it at 6-6. An Elias Diaz sac fly scores Shohei Ohtani in the tenth for the 7-6 Fremont win. W: Robert Suarez (1-1) HR: SBL- Jose Altuve (16); FRE- Austin Hays (8), Shohei Ohtani (28), Nolan Gorman (22) |
Game #6: | Johan Oviedo (SBL) vs Shohei Ohtani (FRE)
Shohei Ohtani departs in the sixth with Fremont down 4-3, but a two-run HR in the eighth from Teoscar Hernandez makes it 5-4 Fremont. Closer Shelby Miller comes on and gets the first two outs, but PH Myles Straw doubles to put the tying run on. Eduardo Escobar comes in as a PH and drives in the tying run with a single. Fremont gets runners at the corners in the bottom of the ninth but Joey Bart, in for an injured Elias Diaz, can’t bring in the run. In the 10th, a walk, steal, and error puts a runner on third for the Lynx, and Bo Bichette knocks it past the drawn in infield to go up 6-5. The Cannons go quietly in the bottom of the inning and Southbend takes the finale. Kyle Tucker homers twice and steals twice for the victors. W: Kirby Yates (3-1) HR: SBL- Kyle Ticker 2 (21), Dylan Moore (7); FRE- Teoscar Hernandez (17), Nolan Gorman (23) |
Summary: | A 3-3 split that doesn’t help either team keep pace with their competitors. 0 saves in the series. Nolan Gorman homered 3 times.
Next week: Southbend hosts Coconut Creek in a crucial matchup, while Fremont has another tough series at home, this time against Hollywood. |
