| Summary: | SWD takes the final two games to take the series 4-2. |
Selkirk Steelers @ Triple Creek Patriots |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Couple 2nd place teams meet up for a 6 game set. |
| Game #1: | Selkirk pushes the lone run of the game across in the 5th on a FC. Gibson twirls 8 innings of 3 hit no walk ball and Iglesias locks down the 9th.
SS 1 TCP 0 W: Gibson (8-4) |
| Game #2: | Cease goes 7 full allowing 2 hits, no walks, and whiffing 13. Chafin and Iglesias are nearly perfect allowing just 1 hit. Triple Creek has an 18 inning no walks streak going, ewwww.
SS 3 TCP 1 W: Cease (17-6) |
| Game #3: | The Patriots walks! The Patriots walk! And 7 times. Steelers walk 6 times. Too bad none of the Triple Creek singles could drive anyone in from 1st. Perez 3-5 and Semien 2-4 w/ GW RBI are the only Steelers with hits. Neither team could manage an extra base hit and it took until the 11th inning for someone to cross the plate. Wind was blowing down and in?
SS 1 TCP 0 W: Baker (2-5) |
| Game #4: | Montas and Staumont combine to shut out the Steelers. Patriot bats finally muster more than 1 run but are out-hit 8-7. Owen Miller 2-4 w/ 2 doubles and Bellinger solo-shot were highlights for the homies. Been a weird series so far.
SS 0 TCP 2 W: Montas (7-5) |
| Game #5: | Steelers out-hit Triple Creek 9-8 but didn’t draw a single walk. Seager drills a 2-run shot in a big 4 run 3rd inning and that was all Triple Creek would need.
SS 2 TCP 5 W: Bieber (11-6) |
| Game #6: | Selkirk struck quick with 4 early runs. Triple Creek would tie things up on the 4th 5 to 5 with a 3-spot then pull ahead in the 5th. The Steelers hung crooked numbers in the 7th, 8th and 9th to seal the series win. 5 different Steelers and 3 Patriots each collect 3 hits. Both teams woke up and combined for 35 hits and 20 runs in a fireworks filled finale for the fans.SS 12 TCP 8W: Kimbrel (1-0) L: Long (3-5) S: Iglesias (23) |
| Summary: | Teams combine to score only 15 runs in the first 5 games and then 20 in the last. Selkirk takes the series 4-2. |
Prairie Falcons @ Columbus Explorers |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Columbus finds itself in a playoff spot hunt??? Well, let’s hope we can do well this week, because hard, tough teams coming – ALSO VERY RARE PLAY COMING UP! |
| Game #1: | Columbus scores 3 in the 1st which was enough for the win – but it should have been 5. RARE PLAY – DECEPTION – LUNACY. Jason Delay is up with 2 outs, runners on 1st and 3rd and he drives one deep to RF. Mickey Moniak gallops after it, on the track, at the wall, leaps – HE’S GOT IT! No, wait, the ump signals HR, he didn’t get it. Home run for Delay – 3 run jack. HOLD ON – Eli White feel for Moniak’s deception and trots straight to the dugout and Delay scampered right past him and he’s out. He gets credited with a triple and only 1 run scores!!! Either White was an idiot or Moniak an illusionist – or both. Either way it costs Columbus 2 runs (and you can bet White’s taking a lot of heat). Josh Winder has another great start, 4 hits, 1 run, 7 innings. PRA 1- 4-1 LP Corey Kluber (9-12) COL 4-10-1 WP Winder (11-3) Save John King (1) |
| Game #2: | Mickey Moniak homers (8) in the 3rd for the Falcons. Columbus responds with solo homers from Eli White (5) and Charlie Blackmon (19) in the 3rd and 4th then ice it with 3 in the 8th keyed by a 2 run triple from Daulton Varsho. PRA 1-6-1 LP Jakob Junis (8-12) COL 5-8-1 WP Rony Garcia (4-2) |
| Game #3: | Columbus gets 2 solo homers in the 4th to grab a 2-1 lead, but then the Falcons score 2 in the 8th and another in the 9th to spoil Jordan Lyles decent start. Jake Burger gets 2 rbis (with no hits), Trent Grisham smacks a PH homer (19) and the Falcons bullpen does enough to get the win and save. PRA 4-7-0 WP Lou Trivino (1-2), S Richard Bleier (1) COL 2-7-1 LP Lyles (7-11) |
| Game #4: | Falcons plate 3 in the 1st off Logan Gilbert in part due to Columbus error and in part to 2 run Trey Mancini double. The the Explorers attach for 4 in the 2nd and 7 in the 3rd as they bang out 13 hits and 5 walks. Mancini gets another rbi, but the 5 Prairie runs were far short of what was needed. No homers in the combined 20 hits! PRA 5- 7-0 LP Graham Ashcraft (1-3) COL 12-13-2 WP Gilbert (13-5) |
| Game #5: | Enrique Hernandez pops a 2 run shot (5) in the 3rd and Prairie counters in the 5th with a 2 run Jake Burger triple. Game stays that way until the bottom of the 8th when Daulton Varsho singles in the go ahead run and Charlie Blackmon adds insurance with a 2 run double. PRA 2-5-1 LP Colin Poche (2-6) COL 5-8-0 WP Jimmy Herget (4-0) S Bryan Abreu (3) |
| Game #6: | OK – we needed more than 6 games, so this one goes 15 innings. Nick Gordon (7) homers for 1 in a 2 run 1st. Columbus gets 1 back in their half. Trey Mancini (19) homers for 2 in the 4th, Charlie Blackmon (20) does the same in the bottom half. Prairie plates single runs in the 6th and 8th for a 6-3 lead. But the Blackmon hits his 2nd homer of the game (21) – this one for 3 runs in the 8th to tie it up. When Trevor Story walks off Clarke Schmidt to open the 13th, Prairie goes to small ball. Jimmy Herget in, and Story steals, then moves to 3rd on a sacrifice and after a walk, Story scores when Mancini grounds one off Hergets glove – out at 1st. But a couple of hits and a SF in the bottom half by Hernandez tie it up. On to the 15th and Columbus hero of the day, Charlie Blackmon singles in the winning run after Giovanny Urshela reaches (3 for 6 on the day) and Donovan Solano singles (5 for 7 on the day). For Blackmon – he goes 4 for 7, 2 runs, 2 homers, 6 rbis! PRA 7-10-0 LP Josh Fleming (0-2) 15 innings COL 8-17-1 WP Andrew Wantz (2-3) |
| Summary: | Columbus comes away winning 5 of 6 before heading on the road to Harsens Island. |
Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Bethesda Bandicoots |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Two teams sharing a jet ride to Nowhere City meet up just for laughs. |
| Game #1: | Paul DeJong had a rare multi-hit game and drove in four runs on two singles as the Bandicoots topped Long Beach 5-3. Brandon Marsh (13) drove in two runs for Long Beach with a home run with pinch hitter Nate Eaton singling in a run in the 9th, but the comeback attempt was foiled by Matt Moore who saved his 19th by getting the last out with the DBs threatening with runners on 1st and 3rd. George Kirby (5-2) got the win for Bethesda striking out 11 and walking just one with four hits in seven innings. Jeff McNeil and Adam Duvall each had three hits for Bethesda. |
| Game #2: | Jeff McNeil‘s homer in the 4th inning off Chase Silseth was the sum and total of all of the offense in this game as Bethesda edged Long Beach 1-0. Silseth (2-9) was great allowing just two hits and one walk including the homer in his seven innings on the mound. Alex Cobb (8-10) tossed eight shutout innings of four-hit ball with Matt Moore nailing down his 20th save by striking out the side in the 9th. McNeil celebrated his homer by cursing out the umpire later in the game and was tossed. |
| Game #3: | Michael Wacha improved to 5-1 with three hits and a run over six innings as the Bandicoots easily beat the Dirt Bags for the first time this series 8-1. Catcher Nick Fortes was the only ‘Coots hitter not to get a hit in the game while Ryan O’Hearn had the most with three. Jeter Downs (11) counted the only run for Long Beach with a solo homer in the 3rd inning. Adam Duvall (9) went deep for Bethesda. Newly acquired Marco Gonzales got his first save of the season with three innings of shutout relief. |
| Game #4: | The only reason to watch a Bethesda game went poof as did Jeff McNeil‘s kidneys as he was nailed in the guts by a Brandon Woodruff fastball, uplifting the Dirt Bags to a 3-2 win. Nick Fortes (4) had three hits and drove in two for the losers. Woodruff (6-9) struck out 11 over seven innings for the win with Tyler Matzek pitching a perfect 9th for his 6th save. Clement, Eaton, Reyes and Cabrera each had two hits to pace the Dirt Bags. |
| Game #5: | Merrill Kelly limited the Dirt Bags to two runs over seven solid innings while Aledmys Diaz,Ryan O’Hearn and Andrew Vaughn stepped it up in McNeil’s absence with home runs in a 5-2 Bandicoots’ win. All three homers were of the solo variety and were back-to-back-to-back off Logan Webb in the 7th inning. Jeter Downs drove in both Long Beach runs with a double off Kelly in the 2nd inning. Tyler Rogers pitched a scoreless 9th to get his first save of the year. |
| Game #6: | A 5-4 Bethesda win, crippling themselves in the process when Victor Reyes and Andrew Vaughn collided for extended injuries. Paul DeJong did the bulk of the damage with a three run shot in the 2nd inning. Austin Hedges (2) homered for Long Beach who also got two hits and two runs from Brandon Marsh. George Kirby didn’t pitch well but moved to 6-2 with his second win of the series while Matt Moore recorded his 3rd save and 21st of the season. |
| Summary: | Bethesda wins 5 of 6 speeding its trip top nowhere. |
Yonge Street Stalkers @ Cincinnati Skyliners |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Yonge Street makes the international trip to Glenn Sample Field for a six game set at Cincinnati. |
| Summary: | Cincinnati takes five of six, but it was MUCH closer than that. Three games decided by one-run, a 1-0 classic and a 17 inning thriller to end it. |
Yucaipa Road Runners @ Valdosta Snappers |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | The “Who Cares” series of the week, saw last place Yucaipa visit hot and VERY humid, last place Valdosta. |
| Summary: | The Road Runners take 4 of 6 in a very low-scoring series. Not sure this has ever happened…Valdosta’s James McCann gunned down 11 would be base stealers. Crazy! |
Tijuana Bottle Rockets @ Motor City Muscle |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | TIJ @ MCM for6 games. |
| Summary: | Series split. |
Baltimore Comets @ Sacramento Capitals |
|
|---|---|
| Summary: | Sacramento pitching steps up as the Capitals take 5 of 6 from the Comets. |
Chicago Mobsters @ Fremont Cannons |
|
|---|---|
| Game #1: | Riley Greene shows surprising pop, his two homeruns lead Chicago to 5-2 voctory. |
| Game #2: | Gonsolin shuts down Fremont bats, Chicago wins 8-2. |
| Game #3: | Fremont tries to come back late but still falls 9-5 to the Mobsters. |
| Game #4: | A CG three-hitter from Sandy Alcantara stops the rout, Fremont wins 5-2. |
| Game #5: | Chicago uses Wisler to get two outs then switches to the bullpen. Six walks and three homers given up by Ohtani lead to six Mobster runs, but a two-run Correa homer in the ninth sends it to extras. Gorman hits a walk-off homer in the 13th for the Fremont 7-6 victory. |
| Game #6: | Chicago should have won this one going away, but it was tied in the 8th before Chicago plated 3 off Gallegos to win 5-2. |
| Summary: | Chicago wins the series 4-2. |
Harsens Island Walleye @ Portland Lumber Jax |
|
