Bethesda  Bandicoots @ Tempe  Tempers

Preview: Who knew the Bandicoots have a MWBL best 1.99 ERA… after 20 games. Will they be able to keep the top spot after facing the Tempe offense for seven games?
Game #1: Miguel Perez tossed a one hit shutout going 8.2 INN. Munoz got the cheap save after Perez issued a two out walk in the ninth.
Tempe 3-0 W – Perez, L – Kelly, S – Munoz
Game #2: DeGrom handed the ball to the pen after five innings with a 4-1 lead. Bethesda rallied in the 6th capped by a two run homer from Bote (revenge for being traded?) to tie it at 4-4. The game went extras and Moore pitched a perfect 9th, 10th, and 11th for the win.
Bethesda 6-4 11th Inn W – Moore, L – Strzelecki
Game #3: Tempe’s pen almost blew another lead after Verlander pitched five perfect innings and left with a 4-0 lead. Munoz pitched a perfect 9th to preserve a one run win. Carpenter and Martinez went deep for Tempe.
Tempe 5-4 W – Verlander, L – Kirby, S – Munoz
Game #4: Good pitching duel with Darvish pitching a complete game shutout. Wacha only allowed four and two runs, but the offense failed again.
Tempe 2-0 W – Darvish, L Wacha
Game #5: Perez had another great game giving up only a solo homer to Siri over eight innings. Munoz locked down the ninth for his third save of the series. Brantley and Carpenter both left the yard against Flexen.
Tempe 4-1 W – Perez, L – Flexen, S – Munoz
Game #6: Verlander only gave up a solo shot to Pavin Smith in the fifth and left with a 2-1 lead. Bote singled in a run in the 7th to tie it at 2-2. Kelley unfortunately allowed a run in the 7th and then Detmers got smacked around in the 8th. Carpenter hit his third homerun of the series.
Tempe 6-2 W – Bass, L – Kelly
Game #7: Drury and Molina each hit two run homers and deGrom pitched five scoreless innings with 11 SO. Munoz picked up the easy save in the 9th after Cueto allowed a two-run homer to DeJong.
Tempe 5-3 W – deGrom, L – Cobb, S – Munoz
Summary: Tempe won 6 of 7. Bethesda’s pitching didn’t really falter much, but the offense failed to travel with the team. Perez should have a shot at the pitcher of the week going 2-0 and only giving up one run over 16.2 INN. Munoz also looked good with four saves.

Motor City  Muscle @ Yonge Street  Stalkers

Preview: Motor City jets to Yonge Street, trying to reverse their early season slow start.
Game #1: Aaron Sanchez v. Adrian Houser. What more needs to be said 🙂
Both Starters pitched well. The YSS pen was just a touch better. The Stalkers tallied in the bottom of the ninth to snatch game 1. YSS 3 – MCM 2
Game #2: Brady Singer v. Luis Garcia. A stellar pitchers duel, marred only by a Singer injury in the 8th (15 days), and some unexpectedly shoddy YSS defense. Garcia and Cleavinger combined on the shutout. There was 1 XBH between the 2 squads. MCM 1 – YSS 0
Game #3: YSS response to a tough loss…Gerritt Cole. 7IP, 2H, 2BB, 12K, 0ER. Joc Pedersons 4th HR of the year, and a pair of RBI from Jeremy Pena accounted for the scoring. YSS 3 – MCM 0
Game #4: Nestor Cortes (very itchy in return from D.L) was strong. Jeremy Pena continued his nice series with a HR and a pair of steaks. Oneil Cruz solo shot in the 9th gave MCM bookend single runs in the 1st and 9th. YSS 5 – MCM 2
Game #5: Domingo German continued his nice early start while Mackenzie Gore was done in by 3 MCM errors. The pens were awesome. 11+ stellar innings in this extra inning affair. YSS DH Trea Turner walked it off with a solo blast in the 13th. YSS 6 – MCM 5 (13 innings)
Game #6: A relatively ho-hum finale. Taijuan Walker was strong, Trea Turner knocked in a pair. YSS 6 – MCM 1
Summary: The Muscle snagged one game in the 6 game set. They’ll return home to host MSS. YSS will head to DET.

Harsens  Island  Walleye @ Prairie  Falcons

Preview: Falcons fly home after two weeks on the road going a pathetic 2-10 vs Tempe and Sacramento…GM Ausec feels the West Coast heat got to the team as they lacked energy and pizazz. Injuries continued this week as Trevor Story still has a couple of games on bench acquiring a few more splinters and now Luis Garcia joins him with a deflated ego…Trey Mancini leads the Falcons hitting with 5 dingers but Trent Grisham is right behind him with 4. Luis Cessa leads Falcons pitching with 40% of the 5 wins…yeah I will make you go back to 5th grade math and figure out the actual number that is but I can tell you it isnt 0,1,3,4 so at least you have a cheat sheet to get it right.
Game #1: Junis on the hill for the Birds and as he dove into the lake trying to nab a Walleye he was surprised when the big fish fought back and actually took the Falcons underwater for a while..11 hits later and the Walleye had come out victorious and Junis had to get help to return to the Nest for another meal dive later in series…Walleye win this one easy 7-2 as only T-Rey Mancini the Falcons hometown hero could provide any type of offense lacing an RBI single and double. HIW 7 PRA 2
Game #2: Falcons send to the hill rookie Bryce “Box” Elder in his first start as the second highest grade on the team and he did not disappoint – 8 strong innings out of the kid giving up a 2 run double to L. Garcia – wait!!! who??? we have an L. Garcia on our injury report – you can’t be stealing our DL players…Oh Leury Garcia not Luis…is this card even for real – who the hell is Leury Garcia some lost member of a Mariachi band. In any event Leury drove in all the runs that were needed spoiling the kids pitching debut. Falcons couldnt touch K Thompson and got a run off Hentges only because Jonah Heim can’t hold the ball…and then of course we face Grade 29 JP Feyereisin in the 9th…although we had a shot as Michael Taylor doubled and Mancini walked but Pillar and Kileroff were no match whiffing to end the game. HIW 2 PRA 1
Game #3: K-Wild Wright on the hill for the Big Fish that got away while the Birds of Paradise put Cory Kluber up on the bump…this was a nailbiter…Both pitchers showing their stuff thru 4 but int he 5th Mickey “Mouse” Moniak squibbed a ball downthe 3rd bas line just out of reach of Arenado at the hot corner and he easily speeds into the 2nd base…then the falcons knowing their true offensive limitations give the .145 hitting Ryan Kreidler the bunt sign and he drops it and they try to nab Moniak at 3rd with no success and the Falcons put runners on the corners…up steps Manny Ramirez look alike Manny Pina and he somehow calls on the real MANNY and rips a liner to left – Moniak strolls home and the Falcons take a 1-0 lead. Klubs then mows down the Walleye offense for 4 more innings resulting in a tough loss for K-Wild as the Falcons only needed 1 run to win this one. HIW 0 – PRA 1
Game #4: Man of Steele – Justin on the hill for HIW while the Falcons send Nathan Eovaldi and ladies, gentlemen and those undecided this was a game for the record books…once again there is no scoring until the 5th and in the bottom half again and we thank Ryan Kreidler for his assist. Mickey Mouse leads the inning off with a walk and Ryan drops another successful SH and puts Moniak in scoring position…this time no Manny but instead Jose Barrero who jacks a 2 run shot off Justin Steele and the Falcons take a 2-0 lead. Nathan then duplicates Klubers effort over the last 4 innings and drops a 9 inning bunch of zero’s on the board in this 2-0 win. Walleye are fuming in the visitors dugout as they have now gone 25 straight scoreless innings and havent scored since the 2nd inning of game 2. HIW 0 – PRA 2
Game #5: ERod vs the Japanese Sushi roll Yusei Kikuchi. Falcons strike first this time in the bottom of the 2 when Nicky Gordon rips a 2 run double….then FINALLY Nolan Arenado connects on a Kickuchi hanging slider and we are still waiting for this ball to land – estimates were int he 452 foot mark..ties up now the Falcons go back to work and get an rbi double off the bat of Mancini and then Adam Engel drops a fly ball in left field that allows another run to cross the plate 4-2 Falcons..int he 6th Jonah Heimlick maneuvers a ball past the stretch Sroty book at 2b to close the gap to a one run game…but int he bottom of the 7th Ryan Kreidler hits a popup a mile high and all 5 infielders pointed to the other guy and it drops in for an rbi single…I know that the game said hit ripped a liner to left but there is no way that could possibly happen – he cant rip a liner so it had to be popup that just fell into play 🙂 the falcons then closed it out and win 3 games in a row – what the hell is going on out here on the Prairie?? HIW 3 PRA 5
Game #6: Severino takes the mound and is greeted quickly by the Falcons as Gordon doubles, Taylor triples and Mancini flies out to give us a 2-0 lead then Arenado ties it up 2-2 and the Walleye pour it on a bit scoring 4 more times and take a 6-2 lead. Falcons get 3 back in the 6th thanks to a rbi single by Mancini and a 2 run double by Kileroff but then the Walleye just rip Rocky Blier for 4 runs a couple unearned as Mancini couldnt handle an easy grounder…HIW 10 – PRA 6
Game #7: This was the great Collapse…Falcons leading 3-0 after 5 thanks to doubles by Moniak and Story but then once again Arenado gets off on a pitch to score 2 runs in the 6th …then the pen comes in for the Birds and Walleye score 2 in the 7th and the 8th and cap it off with 5 in the 9th…it got a bit ugly and a fan ran on the field but escape as usual – problem here is with only 3 fans and 4 police officers he was easily caught as it everybody knows everybody here in town. U-G-L-Y HIW 11 – PRA 3
Summary: HIW wins the first 2 and the last 2 to take the series from Prairie 4-3 but the Falcons are not upset we had a 3 game winning streak for what should be the only time this year, had back to back shutouts by Kluber and Eovaldi and Ryan Kreidler improved his batting average from .145 to .150 this season…which is scaring the bejesus out of Baltimore as we travel south on I-95 to Maryland to take on the Comets. Reikers Island Walleyes return home to host Sacramento. Players of the series – HIW Gavin Lux was 11-29 for the series while Arenado hit 3 dingers so it is a tossup for both – key was their offensive demise in gams 3-4 of the series not posting any offense whatsoever. For the Falcons – Ryan Kreidler is our offensive hero 3 hits in the series 2 walks and 2 key sacrifices…the Pitching duo of Kluber and Eovaldi takes the pitching honors – Nathan was a bit cleaner giving up only singles but Kluber gave up a 2 out three bagger to Lux before stranding him and his was a closer score 1-0 vs 2-0…either guy could get it.. So long from down on the farm – have a great week..

Triple Creek  Patriots @ Sacramento  Capitals

Summary: Sacramento beats Triple Creek 4-3, with 5 games decided by 1 run. Very close series.

Portland  Lumber Jax @ Baltimore  Comets

Preview: The 12-8 Baltimore Comets visit the 12-9 Portland LumberJax.
Game #1: Hunter Renfroe hits a big homerun and has 5 RBIs in the game to lead the Comets to an easy win. Polanco gets injured for the Comets.  BAL 10 POR 2
Game #2: Ryan Jeffers hits a solo homerun in the 8th inning for Portland to give them the win.  POR 4 BAL 3
Game #3: Portland offense struggles, and Baltimore’s wakes up in the second half of the game to earn the win. This marks 25 games in 26 days for Portland this season, which decimates roster. More rest please!
BAL 5 POR 1
Game #4: Baltimore scores all 6 of their runs in the fifth inning, but that is more than they would need for the win.
BAL 6 POR 2
Game #5: Gallen throws a 1-hitter for Portland, but that one hit was a homerun by Matt Olsen, which is all they would need for the win as Mikolas pitches a complete game shutout despite giving up 7 hits.
BAL 1 POR 0
Game #6: Comets start out on fire, and cruise to another easy win.
BAL 7 POR 2
Summary: Comets win 5 of 6 in Portland which might put them on top the NW West.

Corktown  Cycle @ Columbus  Explorers

Preview: Corktown comes to Columbus for 6 – fairly even teams looking way to the future…
Game #1: David Peterson does his hall of fame impression tossing a CG 1 hitter (W 2-0) for Columbus – giving up 2 walks and fanning 12! 29 batters faced. However, it’s almost not enough as Josiah Gray (L 1-4) goes 7.1 but gives up a lone run in the 3rd and a Didi Gregorius rbi single. He does however, inflict some damage when he hits Donovan Solano who will be headed to the DL!
FINAL 1-0 Columbus.
Game #2: Interesting game as it stretches into a LONG affair – 21 innings of pitch count eating fiasco. And both teams score runs in the 16th and 19th to prolong the game. Game started with a Ryan Mountcastle homer (3) in the 1st which was matched by a Brendan Donovan 2 run shot in the 7th. By then it was 3-3. 12 pitchers take the teams to the 21st where Clarke Schmidt pitches his 5th inning (giving up 1 in the 19th). Jorge Lopez (L 0-1) had already gotten the blown save (1) in the 19th, tried to pitch the 21st but after 1 down, he lets a runner on when Abraham Toro misplays a Raimel Tapia bunt. He then steals 2nd base and with 2 outs Enrigue Hernandez gets his 4th hit of the game (missed a cycle by a triple) and 3rd rbi and Columbus comes out a 6-5 winner in 21 INNINGS!
Game #3: Well Corktown didn’t like that result so they come out slugging in game 3 and put 6 runs on the board in the 3rd and 12 total by the end of the 6th. Only 1 homer – Jazz Chisholm – and that was a solo shot (7) in the 1st. He had a 3 hit, 2 rbi day. Nate Lowe garnered 4 hits and 4 guys had 2 hits each in the 18 hit attack (and 6 walks). Paolo Espino ate the innings in defeat (2-1) as the bullpen was worn-out for yesterday. Jose Berrios (W 4-1) goes 6 for the Cycle in getting the easy win. And of course Robinson Chirinos decides this will be his big day, slugging 2 homers (1,2) for Columbus in the losing effort.
Game #4: The losing streak for Columbus ends at 1 as they fend off a lead-off homer by Amed Rosario (5) in the 1st. And they turn some solid pitching by Logan Gilbert (W 2-1) into a nice 6-2 win. And again Robinson Chirinos keeps the hot bat going with a 3 hits, 3 rbi game! Robbie Ray (3-1) takes the loss. Nate Lowe get 3 hits (2 doubles) in the losing effort.
Game #5: Seeking to win the series, Columbus quickly falls behind 2-0 in the 1st on a Jazz Chisholm blast (8). That would be enough for the Cycle to win behind a strong outing from Brayan Bello (W 2-1) who goes 5.2 innings, 3 hits, 1 run. A bit wild with 5 walks, but effective nonetheless. Jorge Lopez gets the save (2) in the 3-1 CORKTOWN win.
Game #6: Still with a chance to take the series, the Explorers again find themselves down 2-0 after 1. Actually it was 2-0 after the first 2 batters after Tony Kemp reaches on an error and Chris Taylor deposits a ball in the seats for a 2 run homer (1). A few innings later it was Ryan Mountcastle blasting the 2 run homer (4). Mountcastle has a 3 for 5 game with 3 rbis, 2 runs on the day. David Peterson was ineffective today taking the loss for Columbus (2-1) but Josiah Gray was again very strong against the Explorers and this time was rewarded wih the W (2-4). He goes 7.1, 4 hits, 2 UNEARNED runs and 10 Ks. FINAL SCORE – Corktown 7-2 winners.
Summary: Series split 3-3 between two teams that need lower echelon teams to face to be exciting. This week they got that.

Tijuana  Bottle Rockets @ Virginia  Sluggers

Preview: Tijuana travels into Virginia for a 7 game series.
Game #1: Virginia’s Rizzo swats a 3-run HR in the B1 for an early VIR lead. VIR would eventually put the game away with 2 runs in the B8 with a Murphy 2-run 2b.

Virginia 6, Tijuana 2

Virginia 2, Tijuana 1
Game #5: After VIR tied the game at 4-4 in the B5 TIJ erupted for 3 runs in the T6 and the T8 to out the game away.
TIJ I.Happ has the game of the series as he swats 3 HRs as he goes 5-6 with 5 runs and 5 RBI. Hayes and Kiner-Falefa each pick up 2 hits and Franco and Hayes each score 2 runs.
Tijuana 10, Virginia 5
Game #6: TIJ opens up with 3 runs in the T1 with a Paredes rbi-1b and a Kiner-Falefa 2-run 1b.
But VIR strikes back in the B1 with a 5 spot on a Reynolds rbi-1b, a Rengifo 3-run HR, and a Bradley rbi-1b.
TIJ would tie the game in the T3 when a run scores on a Ryan WP and a Sanchez SAC Fly.
VIR Devers would come through again with a solo-HR in the B5 for what would be the winning run as both team’s pitchers toss scoreless ball the rest of the game.
Virginia 6, Tijuana 5
Game #7: The series final was all VIR as they started the scoring with a Rizzo 2-run HR in the B1 and then added 7 more runs in the B7 highlighted by a Devers 3-run HR and a Rizzo solo-HR, his 2nd HR of the game.
VIR Bradley goes 4-4 w/3 rbi to also star for the Sluggers.
VIR T.Williams goes 8 strong scoreless innings before giving way to T.Hill.
TIJ gets a 3-run HR from Paredes off Hill for their only runs.
Virginia 11, Tijuana 3
Summary: Some close games, some not so close games, as Virginia takes the series 5-2 over Tijuana.

Summary:  The Werewolves take a bite out of the Mobsters backside taking the series 5 games to 2.

Long Beach  Dirt Bags @ Valdosta  Snappers
