Series Summary: The two teams end up splitting. Rest is needed for both clubs & with the 3-Day Mid-Season Break, it can’t come quick enough. The two teams will face off next week in the Queen City.

Yonge Street  Stalkers @ Dallas  Cougars

Series Summary: Stalkers take 4 of 6 in Dallas. Trying to get all my hitters in the last game came back to bite me as I had injury late causing me to put pitchers in the hitting lineup.

Valdosta  Snappers @ Sacramento  Capitals

Series Summary: Sacramento sweeps Valdosta.

Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Jersey Nor’easters

Series Summary: Long Beach takes this series 5-1. They shutout the Nor’easters three times and limit them to a single run in a fourth game. Even in Jersey’s lone win they score only 2 runs. Jersey say’s so long to 1st place in the Division.

Triple Creek  Patriots @ Baltimore  Comets

Series Preview: The Triple Creek Patriots (33-44) 3rd place in the N.L. West, sitting 23.5 games back, visit the N.L. East 2nd place Baltimore Comets (39-37) 4 games behind.
Game #1: Ryan Yarbrough mesmerizes, going 8 innings and limiting the Patriots to no runs on 6 hits. Kenley Jansen finishes off the shutout, tossing a scoreless ninth. Shane Bieber was nearly as impressive, limiting the Comets to 2 hits, but it was a Joey Gallo double and Josh Donaldson RBI single that proved to be the difference.

PATRIOTS 0 / 6 / 0
COMETS 1 / 3 / 0
WP – Yarbrough (7-4)
LP – Bieber (5-3)
S – Jansen (18)

Game #2: Triple Creek must have left their bats at home as they are shutout for the second consecutive day. Bruce Zimmerman goes the distance, allowing only a pair of singles. Jorge Polanco doubled and hit a pair of homeruns (#s 10 & 11), and Josh Donaldson added his 12th homerun of the season to pace the Baltimore offense.

PATRIOTS 0 / 2 / 0
COMETS 5 / 9 / 0
WP – Zimmerman (2-5)
LP – Wood (3-7)

Game #3: The tables turn in game 3 as Frank Montas NO HITS Baltimore. Montas struck out 10 Comets and only walked one in earning his 8th victory of the season. Lourdes Gurriel and Stephen Piscotty each had a pair of hits for the Patriots.

PATRIOTS 3 / 9 / 0
COMETS 0 / 0 / 0
WP – Montas (8-4)
LP – Manaea (7-6)
S – Jansen (18)

Game #4: Baltimore takes advantage of Kevin Gausman’s early exit, after he clunks 3 Comet batters in the first 3 2/3 innings, to pound out an 11-1 victory. Jorge Polanco (#12), Joey Gallo (#14), Josh Bell (#13), and Josh Donaldson (#13) go deep for the Comets.

PATRIOTS 1 / 7 / 1
COMETS 11 / 11 / 0
WP – Gray (5-6)
LP – Gausman (7-3)

Game #5: Baltimore cruises into the 9th with a 5-3 lead and Kenley Jansen on the hill. Jansen had saved 10 straight … game over … but not so fast … following a walk to Will Smith, Jansen hits Corey Seager to put 2 on with one out, and Jonathan Villar makes him pay, clubbing one out of the park for a 6-5 Patriot win. Villar hit 2 round-trippers in this one (#s 8 & 9), Corey Bellinger hit his 8th. Aaron Judge (#19) and Hunter Renfroe (#s 16 & 17) homered for the Comets.

PATRIOTS 6 / 9 / 0
COMETS 5 / 9 / 0
WP – Staumont (4-4)
LP – Jansen (0-2)

Game #6: I’m not sure what got into Ryan Yarbrough this series, but he shuts down the Triple Creek lineup again. This time Yarbrough goes the distance, allowing 0 runs on 4 hits, striking out 9. Josh Bell (#14) and Jorge Polanco (#13) homer for Baltimore.

PATRIOTS 0 / 4 / 3
COMETS 4 / 6 / 0
WP – Yarbrough (8-4)
LP – Bieber (5-4)

Game #7: Bruce Zimmerman has another strong outing, only allowing a run on 5hits, striking out 10, over 8 innings to lead Baltimore to a 3-1 win. Aaron Judge’s 3 run blast in the third (#20) provided all the offense for the Comets. Corey Seager doubled twice, walked, and scored the Patriots’ lone run.

PATRIOTS 1 / 5 / 0
COMETS 3 / 8 / 0
WP – Zimmerman (3-5)
LP – Wood (3-8)
S – Jansen (19)

Series Summary: Baltimore’s pitching greatly overachieves in this series, pitching three shutouts and winning 5 of 7.

The series headline however is the Frank Montas no hitter.

Baltimore is playing well at the mid-point of the season, but there is a tough stretch coming up to start the second half. It’s doubtful the starting pitching can continue to perform at the level they have been.
Depending on how the 2nd half starts will determine if the Comets are buyers or sellers as the trade deadline approaches.

Bethesda  Bandicoots @ Portland  Lumber Jax

Series Preview: The 43-41 Bethesda Bandicoots visit the Portland LumberJax (33-50)
Game #1: BET 6 POR 1

Ohtani gets 2 hits, a double and a homer, and knocks in all 3 runs. Skubal goes 7 giving up 6 hits and 1 run for the win.
Game #2: FRE 8-0
Baez’ 2-run single and McCann’s 2-run homer supports White’s CG 3-hit, shutout.
Game #3: VIR 3-2
Rizzo singles and homers to drive in all VIR runs while the bullpen throws 3 innings of shut-out ball.
Game #4: FRE 12-4
FRE rolls with a 16 hit attack. Ohtani hits #31 and Correa hits 2 homers while going 3-5 with 5 RBI. Moncada goes 4-5 with a double and 3 singles yo knock in 4.
Game #5: FRE 4-2
Guerrero’s 3 run blast in the 3rd and Yastrzemski’s solo shot in the 4th were 2 of only 3 hits FRE got. But that was all it took. VIR had 6 hits but could only manage 2 runs.
Game #6: VIR 8-5
Homers by Reynolds and Springer helped VIR score 7 runs in the first 3 innings, but FRE came back to come close and it was VIR’s pen that shut FRE down the last 3 innings by only allowing 1 hit.
BTW Ohtani hit #32,…so he has 32 in 84 games. Could he get to 60? A real good chance.
Series Summary: FRE took the series 4-2 because,…well they have the better team. It’s that simple.
