Hollywood Werewolves @ Cincinnati Skyliners

Series Summary: Hollywood takes 2 of 3 from Cincinnati. Should have swpet but blew game 3.

Pittsburgh Lumber Company @ Columbus Explorers

Series Preview: Not the battle from last year, but still a rivalry just the same and Pittsburgh motors west to Columbus for a 3 spot…Columbus still sporting a great record, but is the smoke clearing and are the mirrors cracking?
Game #1: Great example of what can happen to Columbus when their starters are human. The massive lumber from Pittsburgh awakens and slaughter Julio Teheran – in fact, he was getting so pummeled he walked off the mound to the tune of a 5 day injury. Aaron Judge smacks 2 homers (4) for 3 rbis, Josh Donaldson adds one (5) for 3 runs, and Joey Wendle gets his 1st (along with a single) as the Lumber Company thrashes the Explorers 10-5. However, it took a leap at the wall in the 8th to rob Shin-Soo Choo of a grand slam that would have made it 10-9.
PIT 10-12-1 WP Sonny Gray (3-3)
COL 5-9-1 LP Teheran (1-2)
Game #2: After Columbus takes a 1-0 lead in the 3rd, Pittsburgh comes back for 3 – a 3 run Joey Gallo homer (7) in the 4th. They make it 4-1 in the 8th and Columbus starter Mike Fiers packs it in. Salvador Perez is a welcome sight back to the Columbus roster and he chimes in 2ith 3 hits and he and Gio Urshela drive in single runs in the 8th to cut the score to 4-3. Then in the 9th Asdrubal Cabrera ties the game with a SF and in the 11th Trevor Story wins it with a SF and the Explorers won’t get swept.
PIT 4-10-2 LP Yates (0-1) 11 innings
COL 5-12-0 WP Marshall (1-1)
Game #3: You could tell early what type of game this would be. 5 hits batmen leads to two ejections – 1 for each team. Jordan Lyles was pitching a great game, but because the opposition had hit 1 Explorer, when Lyles did it a 2nd time in the 5th he was toast. Tony Watson came on with the bases loaded and up 2-0 and was able to get out of the mess with only 1 run scoring. Charlie Blackmon singled in 2 in the 1st for the early Columbus lead. But in the 6th, Chance Sisco (5) homers off Watson to tie the game. In the bottom half Columbus benefits from a big Kevin Newman error and they plate 2 runs for a 4-2 lead. They take that lead into the 9th and bring in Liam Hendriks – he’s given up 1 UNEARNED run this year. NOT ANY MORE!! Jorge Polanco takes him downtown for a solo homer (8) but that was all the Lumber Company could do and Columbus hangs on to win 4-3.
PIT 3-8-2 LP Alex Young (0-3)
COL 4-10-0 WP Watson (2-1) S Hendriks (13)
Series Summary: So with so-so starters, the Explorers eek out 2 wins in 3 games. Last half of the season will be iffy, but we are already way beyond where we expected. Next series – AT PORTLAND. Pittsburgh will host Valdosta.

Jersey Nor’easters @ Portland Lumber Jax

Game #1: POR 3 JNE 1
Game #2: JNE 10 POR 5 (10)
Game #3: POR 5 JNE 3
Series Summary: Portland surprises Jersey by winning 2 of 3

Motor City Muscle @ Mesa Solar Sox

Series Preview: An up and down season for Mesa and they look to get some consistency against the Motor City Muscle.
Game #1: Kyle Hendricks and John Curtiss five hit the muscle. Hendricks raises his record to 5-0. Luis Robert hits a two run homer.
Game #2: A good pitchers duel, 1-1 in to extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th, Mesa’s Rowdy Tellez doubles, gets pinch run for, and Nick Ahmed throws away a grounder by Yan Gomes giving Mesa a 2-1 win.
Game #3: Justin Dunn (5-1) out duels Zach Davies (4-3). Mesa sweeps by winning 5-3.
Series Summary: Good Mesa pitching calms down the bats of Motor City and they get some momentum with the sweep.

Harsens Island Walleye @ Triple Creek Patriots

Series Summary: Triple Creek takes 2 of 3..

Bethesda Bandicoots @ Valdosta Snappers

Series Preview: Bethesda visits Valdosta for 3.
Series Summary: Valdosta wins game 1 but they only pushed across 2 runs in the next 2 games and drop both to the Bandicoots. Bethesda wins 2 of 3.

Chicago Mobsters @ Virginia Sluggers

Series Preview: The Mobsters from Chicago visit Virginia in hopes of some Southern Hospitality.
Game #1: VIR 4-2 W-M.Baez (1-3) L-T.Bauer (2-3) SV-T.Webb (10)

The APBA BBW Gods are strange. A 21 grade pitcher faces a 3 grade. One would expect a blow out. Not so. After one out in the first, Baez faced a 1 out, runners on 1st and 2nd situation. Solution? Strike out the next two batters. Which he did. And continued to do thru 8 innings as he totaled 13 in all. He did give up single runs in the 3rd and 9th,…one of them a Joey Votto solo blast. But it wasn’t enough. Virginia scored first on a C.Biggio SF and with the score tied in the 3rd,…” R. DEVERS facing T. BAUER, B 3rd, 2 Outs, 1st and 2nd, Tied 1-1 …The runners take their lead … and now the pitch … DEVERS hits a pea … past the diving VOTTO…just inside the bag … it’s rolling … KIERMAIER will have to play it near the corner…MERRIFIELD scores … BRADLEY’s around third…they’re waving BRADLEY in … WONG will relay…and he scores … DEVERS holds second with a double … as the throw comes back in…MOBSTERS 1, SLUGGERS 3. Biggio would later send one over the right-centerfield fence for a 4-1 VIR lead and Chicago would get their final run on Votto’s longball, but it just wasn’t Chicago’s day, VIT takes it 4-2.

Game #2: VIR 5-1 W-L.Castillo (6-0) L-L.McCullers (2-3)

Virginia pulled another one out of the sky. This was Castillo’s game. He went all the way, 9 IP giving up just 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 8 to up his record to 6-0. CHI’s only mark on the scoreboard came from K.Kiermaier’s long solo rocket for his 2nd homer of the year. Virginia, however, put up runs on E.Jimenez’ homer, a R.Devers RBI double, a 2-run homer off the bat of C.Biggio and a SF that that should have been a homer, BUT,…”R. DEVERS facing J. JEFFRESS, B 8th, No Outs, 2nd and 3rd, Ahead 4-1 …They’re playing him in … the runners take their lead … JEFFRESS delivers – DEVERS wallops this one to center field … it might be out of here … AKIYAMA is to the wall…he has no more room … he’s looking up … leaps … and grabs it!…that one was over the wall … but AKIYAMA brought it back in for the out…and the runners scramble back … both runners tag…they’re waving JIMENEZ in…here’s the play at the plate … and he’s … safe easily…DEVERS picks up a sac fly and an RBI” So Virginia pulls off another upset win to keep them in the wildcard hunt.

Game #3: CHI 5-1 W-J.Luzardo (5-1) L-T.McKenzie (0-3)

So much for VIR’s thoughts of a sweep. Luzardo quited the VIR bats and the daunted Mobster bullpen threw goose eggs for the final 3.1 innings to wrap up a Chicago win. Busting out the bats, CHI launched 3 homers. A.McCutchen popped his 5th, A.Bregman also hit his 5th and N.Cruz ripped his 11th of the year. And those homers accounted for all 5 Chicago runs.

Series Summary: Virginia pulls of a 2-1 series win over playoff bound Chicago.

Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas @ Coconut Creek Crushers

Series Preview: Can either of these teams get to .500?
Game #1: SWD gets runs in the 8th and 9th to send the game to extras. SWD puts up 4 runs in the 12th to win the game 10-6.
Game #2: Tied 3-3 after 7, CCC finally pushes across a run in the 15th to win 4-3.
Game #3: Bullpens blown up and both teams need the SP’s to be strong in this one. Sheffield is strong for CCC and gets plenty of support. CCC offense blows Gray our of the game in the 2nd and cruise to an 11-4 win.
Series Summary: CCC wins the series 2-1 and evens our record at 18-18.

Corktown Cycle @ Long Beach Dirt Bags

Game #1: Woodruff went the distance striking out 14 with 0 walks as Long Beach won 3-1. Grossman hit a 2 run HR in the 3rd to provide all the offense Woodruff would need.
Game #2: This game went back and forth with Corktown tying it 7-7 in the 9th on a pair of Long Beach errors. Long Beach got the winning run in the bottom of the inning when Holaday singled in Turner to give the Dirt Bags an 8-7 win. Munoz was the hitting star. After replacing an injured Dietrich he went 4-4 with a pair of 2 run HRs. Rosario had a big game against his former team with 2 HRs of his own.
Game #3: Wheeler went 8 innings to pick up his first win of the year as Long Beach completed the sweep 7-3. I don’t know if this has been done before but Long Beach had 4 HRs leading off innings.
Series Summary: Long Beach swept Corktown.

Tempe Tempers @ Sacramento Capitals

Series Summary: Tempe squeaks by with a series win, 2 games to 1. The Caps are mounting a comeback!

Fremont Cannons @ Tijuana Bottle Rockets

Series Preview: Tijuana hosts Fremont for 3.
Series Summary: Cannons sweep.

Selkirk Steelers @ Rosemere Renegades

Series Summary: Selkirk sweeps!

Dallas Cougars @ Yonge Street Stalkers

Series Preview: Dallas visits YSS. Here we go!
Game #1: A homer by Nola in the bottom of the 8th turned out to be the difference. He finished the contest 2 for 3. He also added a double and walked for the home team. Tejeda, Smith and Gyorko homered for Dallas. YSS 7 – DAL 5
Game #2: Giolito did his best Curt Schilling impression. He went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs (incl. 3 HR). The Michael Pineda pixie dust wore off at the end. Jorge Alcala tried to save the Stalkers but s%*T himself instead. DAL 7 – YSS 4
Game #3: Way too much Dallas Kuechel in this one. Abreu, Will Smith (twice) and S. Brown homered for the visitors in their easy victory. DAL 12 – YSS 1
Series Summary: YSS picked up a win in the opener, but Dallas is tough and snatched the final pair on the road. DAL returns home to host TIJ, while YSS heads out to CCC.
