Southbend  Lynx @ Southwest Detroit  Fighting Chihuahuas

Series Summary:  Southbend takes the series 4-2

Portland  Lumber Jax @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview:  The NL west’s 2nd place team, the Portland Lumber Jax (30-30) head way way east to take on the NL East 1st place Bethesda Bandicoots (36-23).
Game #1:  Hyun-Jin Ryu tosses five shutout innings and gets run support in the way of homers from Logan Morrison and Brad Miller as Bethesda opens the series with an 8-2 win over Portland. Christian Arroyo had two hits for Portland and drove in both runs. Miller and Morrison each drove in three for Bethesda with Miller going 3/4.
Game #2:  NO-HITTER ALERT
Jake Arrieta walked three but did not much else wrong as he tossed a no-hitter in a 4-0 win for Bethesda. Arrieta also tripled and drove in a run in the game with Brad Miller driving in two with a two-run shot off Portland starter Anthony Senzatela in the 2nd inning. AJ Ellis scored twice and homered off Senzatela in the 5th.
Game #3:  Erasmo Ramirez was perfect through five innings but settled for a two-hitter as the Bandicoots blanked Portland 3-0. Both Portland bats came off the bat of hot-hitting and Midas gloved outfielder Kevin Pillar. Anthony Rendon and Travis Shaw each had two hits for Bethesda with Alen Hanson bopping his first homer of the season off German Marquez in the 7th inning.
Game #4:  Logan Morrison hammered two balls out of the park including a walkoff solo shot in the bottom of the 10th as Bethesda edged Portland 8-7.
The Lumber Jax bats woke up big time as they hammered Bethesda starter Rich Hill for four runs in the first inning, but Robinson Chirinos hit a grand slam pinch hitting for Hill in the bottom of the Bethesda 5-run second to give them the lead which they held until the 8th inning.
Up 7-5 in the 8th, the Lumber Jax jumped all over Tyler Lyons who had been nearly unhittable coming out of the Bethesda pen this year. Lyons gave up a bases loaded walk to Christian Arroyo and then an RBI groundout by Juan Lagares which tied the game at 7-7.
Kevin Pillar (12) homered for the Lumber Jax and catcher Sandy Leon drove in two runs with a double in the first inning off Hill. Carlos Ruiz hit his first homer of the season for Bethesda off starter Adam Conley.
Game #5:  Portland starter Kyle Freeland was erratic, allowing three walks in the first inning as Bethesda counted four runs and cruised to a 6-2 win over the Lumber Jax.
Logan Morrison continued to hit for power crushing his 15th of the year off Russ Stripling in the 5th inning. David Peralta chipped in with a 3/3 game for Bethesda.
Tyler Saladino had two hits for Portland and drove in a run with the other RBI coming from Jeff Mathis
Game #6:  Hyun-Jin Ryu tossed his second strong game of the series, striking out 11 as the Bandicoots completed the sweep of Portland with a 3-2 squeaker.
Portland opened the game quickly, scoring twice off the Korean lefty before he settled down and cruised all the way to the end of the 7th inning giving up just one hit after the 1st. Ryu opened by getting tough Kevin Pillar out but then gave up a warning shot double high off the wall to Juan Lagares. Heedless of the warning, Ryu went right after Mikkie Mahtook who promptly deposited the ball deep into the outfield stands for his 3rd homer of the season.
Mahtook and CJ Cron had two hits for Portland. Steve Cishek struck out two in a perfect 9th to get his 13th save of the season.
Series Summary:  Portland beat up on Bethesda’s arguably best starting pitcher, but the Bandicoots capitalized on their chances and otherwise stilled the Lumber Jax bats to earn a sweep with strong pitching by Arrieta (no-hitter), Ramirez (2-hitter), Ryu (two wins, 2 runs and 8 hits in 12 innings) and even Tyson Ross (6 innings of shutout ball in game 5)

Series Summary:  The series is split at 3 games each. Dallas heads home to take on the Sluggers of Virginia, as the Mobsters head to Coconut Creek to take on the Crushers.

Sacramento  Capitals @ Jersey  Nor’easters

Series Summary:  The Nor’easters play well against Division leading Sacramento and take the series 4-3. Included in the 4 wins were two 13 innings victories and a 5-0 3 hit shutout by Dinelson Lamet and his T.J. elbow.

Yonge Street  Stalkers @ Virginia  Sluggers

Series Preview:  Yonge Street comes to Virginia after taking a beating from a tough Dallas team. Virginia limps home after getting blasted by Tijuana. Both teams looking for a bounce-back.
Game #1:  YSS 3-2 W-Kelvan Herrera (1-1) L-Cory Gearrin (3-4)

4-hit pitching from both team’s starters (Taijuan Walker and Trevor Williams) kept this a low scoring game. Two Virginia errors aided Yonge Street in plating two runs while long balls from Anthony Rizzo and Nick Markakis accounted for Virginia’s scoring. Tied at 2-all, it was Ruben Tejada’s SF in the 10th that gave Yonge Street the win.

Game #2:  VIR 4-1 W-Luis Perdomo (6-1) L- Ivan Nova (4-6) SV- Felipe Rivero (12)

The beginning of a monster series by George Springer. Perdomo was stingy all game, giving up 5 hits while striking out 8 in 8 innings. But it was Springer who jump started the offense. Putting the barrell on the ball, Springer ripped 2 balls over the fence and tallied 3 RBI. Virginia took the lead, stayed in the lead, and with Neil Walker’s solo shot, added to the lead. Things looking up for Virginia.

Game #3:  VIR 6-1 W-Chris Tillman (2-3) L-Garritt Cole (3-5)

Chris Tillman was on his game, throwing a CG, 5-hit shut-out while striking out 13 Stalkers. Never in trouble, Tillman was given offensive support from home runs by Clint Frazier, Anthony Rizzo, and (yes) George Springer (his 3rd in 2 games).

Game #4:  VIR 6-3 W-Chris Archer (6-4) L-Tony Zych (0-1) SV-Felipe Rivero (13)

Yonge Street looked like they might pull this one out. Virginia jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Ryan Flaherty double only to see Yonge Street tie it up with RBI singles from Trea Turner and Eric Thames. George Springer tried to work his magic again and sent another ball out of the yard for a 3-2 VIR lead. But a Neil Walker error lead to another Yonge Street run and the game was tied at 3-all entering the 8th. Enter one Carlos Santana with the bases loaded, not known for his speed, who lines one into the corner and somehow ends up at 3rd with a 3-run triple. That was all Felipe Rivero needed as he struck out the side in the 9th to pick up the save.

Game #5:  VIR 9-2 W-Trevor Cahill (2-7) L-Matt Cain (4-6)

Yonge Street got 2 RBI’s from Mike Zunino, who was 0-1 with 2 walks. That was it. Meanwhile, Virginia’s Neil Walker and George Springer were wrecking havoc. Walker doubled and tripled in a 4-hit day while driving in 4 runs and Springer hit two screamers into the bleachers for his 5th and 6th homers of the series and drove in 3 runs.

Game #6:  VIR 8-1 W-Trevor Williams (5-3) L-Taijuan Walker (3-5)

Virginia came out of the gate with 4 runs in the 1st, including a Jean Segura longball. The Sluggers then put it away in the 3rd with 3 more runs, again, sparked by a Segura RBI. From there Williams coasted to his 5th win.

Game #7:  VIR 8-4 W-Luis Perdomo (7-1) L-Matt Cain (4-7) SV-Paul Sewald (1)

The exclamation point for George Springer’s monster series. After homering in the 1st, Springer lofted a 3-run shot that ended up in the upper deck and capped a 5-run 5th that put Virginia up 7-3. And then Springer, playing in his 5th game of the 7 game series with 8 home runs in the series so far, lined a bullet in the 7th that just cleared the wall for his 9th homer of the series. Finishing the game 4-4 with 3 home runs, 3 runs scored nd 5 RBI, Springer made a strong statement for Player of the week.

Series Summary:  A 6-1 series win for a struggling Virginia team. The Slugger bats came alive against a good Yonge Street team that just ran out of gas. But the big story is George Springer. In 5 games he was 13-18, a .722 BA, 11 runs scored, 14 RBI’s and 9 Home Runs.

HOL take the lead and holds on to win 3-2.

Game #5:  Snell conquers HOL as CCC finally wins 4-2.
Game #6:  This time Peacock holds HOL down. But CCC struggles to score so the game
goes extra innings. CCC lack of bullpen costs the game as HOL wins 3-2 in the 12th.
Game #7:  Leading 3-1 in the 8th inning, HOL blows it open and wins 10-1.
Series Summary:  HOL takes 6 of 7.

Game #2:  Harsens Island 4-0. Nolan Arenado homered twice again as the Walleye get an easy win.
Game #3:  Harsens Island 3-2. Brett Gardner hit a 3-run blast in the 1st inning and that’s all the Walleye needed as they sneak past the Snappers. Gio Gonzalez goes down in the 3rd for 6 days with a blister.
Game #4:  Valdosta 4-2. Light hitting Jose Perraza smacked a 3-run HR in the 6th to put the Snappers up. Meanwhile, Kenta Maeda (8-2) went 7 strong IP for the win. Craig Kimbrel with the save.

Tempe  Tempers @ Corktown  Cycle

Series Preview:  There is always something special in the air when the defending champion comes to town, but its takes a bigger notch when Chris Douglas and his his 10 rings come to your town.
Game #1:  Corktown fought and both managers had a quick trigger on their starters. The game was tied 2-2 to begin the 9th when Corey Knebel came in and walked 3 batters. The two runs the Tempers needed to win walked across the plate.

Tempe 4-2
W. Greg Holland 3-1

Corktown 7-1
W. Robbie Ray 4-3
L. Jhoulys Chacin 5-3

Game #5:  Tempe jumped out early with 3 runs in the 1st with a costly Corktown error. Corktown would chip away until they tied it in the 5th. Marcus Semien lead off the bottom of the 9th with a base hit and stole 2nd and 3rd from Evan Gattis. Michael A Taylor eventually drove in Simien for the walk off after two strikeouts from Greg Holland.

Corktown 4-3
W. Alex Colome 2-1
L. Greg Holland 3-2

Game #6:  Game 6 began similar to game 5. Tempers jump out early, Corktown comes back. Except this time the Cycle erreased a 2-0 lead and turning it into a 6-2 lead. This is when Corktown decided to go to the pen because they didn’t trust their 3 grade starting pitcher. The result: 5 earned runs in the 5th inning. Tempe overtook the lead once again to 7-6. The balls just seemed to bounce the way of the home team in this entire series as Corktown was able to tie it and again walk it off. The 10th went the way of game 5 as Eric Hosmer singled and stole 2 bases to eventually be driven in for the W.

Corktown 8-7 (10)
W. Corey Knebel 2-5
L. Gregory Infante 7-2

S. Corey Knebel (16)

Series Summary:  Corktown shocks everyone and the fans got to witness some great baseball. The Cycle won the final 5 games of the series including the final 3 being down 3 runs or more in each contest. It’s just a flesh wound for the Tempers, as they “fall” to 47-18 and the Cycle, have now won 14 of their last 19 and are now a game shy of .500.

Corktown wins the series 5-2
