Tempe Tempers @ Rosemere Renegades |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Tempe visits Rosemere for a six game series. |
| Game #1: | Rosemere had an early 2-0 lead after one inning on a Para two run double. Tempe came back and took a 4-2 lead in the 6th when Liriano’s defense let him down. Crawford tied it with a two run homerun in the 7th. Tempe went up again in the 8th and added two more on a Davis two run homerun in the 9th. Marte hit a solo to start the bottom of the 9th, but Barnette came on and recorded the save. Tempe 7-5 |
| Game #2: | Votto solo HR in the first put Tempe on the board, but Pagan hit an rbi triple in the bottom of the first to tie it. Votto rbi single in the 3rd gave Tempe the lead until an Ortega solo homerun in 6th tied it. Jungmann went seven strong innings and a Pagan rbi double in the 7th gave him the win. Catcher McKenry, (-4 grade arm) should really get the save as he gunned Braun and then Cespedes at second in the 8th. Rosemere 3-2 |
| Game #3: | Tempe came out swinging with homeruns by Cano and Cabrera. A bases clearing double by Votto in the 8th put things away. Chacin went the distance for his first win of the season. Weaver is now 2-15 on the season. Tempe 6-2 |
| Game #4: | Uribe continued to punish Lester this season with a solo homerun and a RBI single, but those were the only runs Lester gave up over seven innings. | Series Summary: | Rosemere avoided the sweep and gave Tempe a couple close calls. Votto was the player of the series with 8 hits, 10 RBI, 6 Runs, and 3 Homeruns. |

Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas @ Detroit Crime
|
|
|---|---|
| Series Summary: | Detroit Sweeps Southwest Detroit |
Bethesda Bandicoots @ Columbus Explorers |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Bethesda (66-36) and Columbus (64-38) meet in a continuation of a tough season series. The teams are about equal in the W/L department but Bethesda holds an 8 game lead in the NL East, the Explorers a distant 20 games back in 2nd place in the NL Central. Both teams have a similar weakness – their bullpens are thin in the big closer department with Columbus the slight edge. But this week it was the Bandicoots bullpen that fared better. |
| Game #1: | Charlie Blackmon did all he could to ensure an Explorers victory. 4 hits, double, homer (15) and 2 singles, 2 rbis (2 run homer in the 1st). Ian Desmond also homers (13) in 1st. Columbus goes into the the 8th with a 3-1 lead, J.A. Happ leaves and Francisco Rodriguez comes in. He gives up a homer to Andre Ethier (his 1st of the year) to make it 3-2. Then in the 9th, Tony Watson comes in and faces 5 batters. Along the way he gives up a walk and a 2 run homer (14) to Aledyms Diaz. Ryan Madson comes in for the save and gives up 2 hits, but closes down the Explorers to take game 1. BET 4-6-1 WP Fernando Salas (3-1) S Madson (11) COL 3-9-0 LP Watson (1-3), BS (3) |
| Game #2: | Explorers seek to redeem themselves and after a single run in the 1st, they put up a 4 spot in the 2nd. The 4 runs greatly benefited from 4 walks by Doug Fister. Tyler Flowers managed 2 for 4 Columbus hits and Ervin Santana did all he needed to do by giving up only 4 hits and 1 run in 8 innings while fanning 8. BET 1-4-1 LP Fister (7-5) COL 5-4-1 WP Santana (8-4) |
| Game #3: | Columbus again gets off to an early lead when Curtis Granderson socks a 2 run homer in the 2nd. Ian Desmond drives in another in the 3rd for a 3-0 lead. But after Wade LeBlanc leaves after 6 with a brilliant 5 performance, the home crowd shudders over the bullpen prospects. And shudder they should. Top of the 8th Jake Barrett on te mound and Aledyms Diaz gets a 2 out single. Joe Biagini comes in and Anthony Rendon greets him with a 2 run homer (19) to make it 3-2. Blaine Hardy comes in and gives up a double to Travis Shaw, but gets Brad Miller to make the final out of the 8th. In the 9th, Francisco Rodriguez is called on again and this time he gets the Bandicoots out in order to preserve the win. BET 2-8-0 LP John Lackey (9-4) COL 3-6-1 WP LeBlanc (5-1), S Rodriguez (12) |
| Game #4: | Down 2 games to 1, Jake Arrieta is given the start for Bethesda with order to right the ship. Right the ship he does as he goes all the way yielding 6 hits, 1 run and fanning 6. And he had plenty of help. Aledyms Diaz strokes a 2 run homer (15) and Anthony Rendon connects for a solo shot (20) to pace the 5 run attack. BET 5-9-0 WP Arrieta (12-3) COL 1-6-0 LP Rusin (4-2) |
| Game #5: | Late game efforts from Bethesda wipes out what had been a good effort by Matt Shoemaker and give Justin Nicolino a nice victory as he hung in long enough. Stephen Drew connects in the 6th for a 2 run homer (4) that gave the Bandicoots a 4-3 lead. Columbus gets it right back in the bottom half as both starters hang in there (too long for Columbus). Top of the 7th, Shoemaker gives up a leadoff double to Jon Jay. Out goes Shoemaker, in comes Tony Watson (struggling of late). He gets Hyun Soo Kim to groundout with no advance. Then he pops up Aledyms Diaz for the 2nd out. But Travis Shaw singles down the line to right scoring Jay to give the Bandicoots the 5-4 lead. Well, the Coots call on their big reliever – Jumbo Diaz – to pitch the 8th and he does it perfectly. Then Ryan Madson does his thing in the 9th to end the game. BET 5-10-1 WP Nicolino (1-2) S Madson (12) COL 4- 7-1 LP Shoemaker (10-3) |
| Game #6: | Game 6 feature a rematch of Jake Odorizzi and J.A. Happ – both got NDs in game 1. After the Explorers fail to score with a good threat in the 1st, Brad Miller doubles in the 2nd and scores on and rbi single from Robert Andino. The scores stays at 1-0 until the bottom of the 5th when Matt Carpenter connects with 2 out and 2 on for a 3 run homer (20) and a 3-1 lead. Coots get one back in the 6th when Jon Jay doubles. He tags up and moves to 3rd on a fly out. Then Anthony Rendon at the plate, Happ fires one in and past Russell Martin for a WP and Jay scores. Martin was in because Odorizzi hit Tyler Flowers who will miss a bunch of games on go on the DL – ouch!. Happ sticks around a bit longer – maybe the coach was leary of the bullpen, who knows. Good call as he singles in an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th. With the score 4-2 after 6, Columbus lets Happ go 8 and then calls on Francisco Rodriguez for the 9th and he delivers, but it was exciting. 2 outs, no one on, Miller singles. Stephen Drew walks. Carlos Ruiz walks, bases loaded. Adrian Gonzalez is plucked from the bench to come in a get some runs. FRod vs. AGon and …. it’s a whiff to end the game (more gray hair, but at least there is some hair). BET 2- 7-0 LP Odorizzi (6-7) COL 4-10-0 WP Happ (11-5) S Rodriguez (13) |
| Series Summary: | Series was a tough fought 3-3 draw, not unexpected. Columbus comes away losing Tyler Flowers for a 15 days. But they stay home to host Windy City. Bethesda returns home to host Corktown in an NL East battle. |
Triple Creek Patriots @ Valdosta Snappers |
|
|---|---|
| Game #1: | Triple Creek 8-3. Clay Buchholz (6-4) tossed 6 shutout innings as the Patriots win easily. Miguel Sano homered twice for the Snappers. |
| Game #2: | Valdosta 3-2. Chris Carter homered and doubled and knocked in all three Snappers runs. Craig Kimbrel, who has been horrid this season (5.77 ERA) picked up the win. |
| Game #3: | Triple Creek 5-2. Kendall Graveman improved to 9-6 as the Pats get another win. |
| Game #4: | Triple Creek 4-2. Chris Carter hit his 41st HR of the year in a losing cause. |
| Game #5: | Valdosta 2-0. Julio Teheran was brilliant as he pitched 8 shutout innings and struck out 12. Craig Kimbrel picked up his 15th save. |
| Game #6: | Valdosta 8-1. Adonis Garcia hit a grand slam in the 1st off of Clay Buchholz and the Snappers never looked back as they win an easy one. Garcia ended up with 2 HR’s in the game. |
| Series Summary: | Series is a 3-3 split as the Snappers continue to play well at home despite a 9-36 record on the road. Must be my superior managing skills 🙂 |
Dallas Cougars @ Mesa Solar Sox |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Should be lots of hitting against two struggling pitching staffs. |
| Game #1: | Dallas’s Kevius Sampson goes the distance, giving up 3 unearned runs for the win. Meanwhile, Solarte hits a first inning 2 run homer off loser Michael Fullmer. Cougars win 6-3. |
| Game #2: | Mesa scores 8 times n the first three innings, getting homers from Alicedes Escobar and Yan Gomes, backing Ian Kennedy, who wins his 9th. Mesa 8-2. |
| Game #3: | Score tied 1-1 in the 6th. Mesa’s Steven Pierce hits a homer to make it 2-1. In the 7th Pierce hits a grand slam to make it 6-1. HOWEVER, in the 9th Michael Bourn caps a 5 run rally with a three run homer and the game is tied at 6!!! On to the 11th – guess what – Pierce hits a two run walk off homer. He had added an earlier double to a 14 TOTAL BASE game. 8 RBIs. WOW. |
| Game #4: | Dallas had this one 2-1, but Mike Napoli walks off with a two run 9th inning homer for a second night in a row Mesa win. |
| Game #5: | A great 10 inning pitchers duel from two unexpected sources. Aaron Blair for the Solar Sox takes the hard luck loss when he gives up a solo 10th inning homer to Drew Butera. Blair gave up 7 hits and struck out 14!! Dallas’s Patrick Corbin was better, though, shutting out the Sox on three hits, striking out 7. |
| Game #6: | A reversal of game #1 as Fullmer shut out Dallas through 6, giving up only 2 hits. Sampson didn’t have it for the Cougars this time, and the Sox clubbed 5 homers (Drury hit 2, Dozier, Vogt, and Rosario) in an 11-0 whitewash. |
| Series Summary: | A fun series that had a little bit of everything, Mesa takes 4 of 6. |
Hollywood Werewolves @ Yonge Street Stalkers |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Hollywood visited Yonge Street and a strange series broke out. |
| Game #1: | A nightmare beginning for the home team. Spot starter Shelby Miller pitched to 3 or 4 batters before being injured (11 days). In hindsight, it was an awful decision to not have a “long man”. Enny Romero followed Miller and was injured (5 days) just as fast. Anyhow…I digress. David Ortiz homered and plated 3, Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Gonzalez each knocked in a pair. HOL 8 – YSS 3 |
| Game #2: | Mat Latos to the rescue. CGSO. Nuf’ said. YSS 6 – HOL 0 |
| Game #3: | A nice duel. David Price was a smidgen better than Ivan Nova. HOL 2 – YSS 1 |
| Game #4: | The home squad scored 3 in the bottom of the 9th to tie, and pulled it out in the 11th. It was a 2 man show. Joc Pederson homered twice and plated 4 while Kris Bryant homered and drove in 4 as well. YSS 8 – HOL 7 |
| Game #5: | Jason Hammel was brilliant. CGSO. Christian Yelich homered. HOL 2 – YSS 0 |
| Game #6: | Hollywood smacked 6 doubles off a severely depleted YSS staff…BUT Andres Blanco hit 3 of YSS SEVEN homers and drove home 7 runs himself. 5 relief pitchers pitched the finale for the home team. YSS 13 – HOL 7 |
| Series Summary: | A series like few I’ve seen before. Riding an already thin staff hammered by injuries, the home team managed a split. It wasn’t pretty. |
Grand Haven Gators @ Corktown Cycle |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Corktown and Grand Haven have a battle for one of Michigan’s worst teams of 2017. |
| Game #1: | Corktown 7-3 |
| Game #2: | Corktown 7-2 |
| Game #3: | Grand Haven 4-1 |
| Game #4: | Corktown 11-2 |
| Game #5: | Corktown 4-3 |
| Game #6: | Grand Haven 7-6 |
| Series Summary: | Corktown celebrates a 4-2 series win by drinking some of Grand Haven’s Oddside Ales Hipster Brunch. |
Virginia Sluggers @ Southbend Lynx |
|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Southbend hosts rival Virginia in a 6 game Face-to-Face match-up. |
| Series Summary: | Southbend manages to win 2 games, but the series was pretty much dominated by the Virginia offense. However, the star of the series was a Virginia pitcher as Trevor Williams wins the first game going 7 innings and giving up only 2 runs, then wins the last game with a CG shutout fanning 8 Lynx.
Virginia travels home with a 4-2 series win. |
Windy City Black Sox @ Sacramento Capitals |
|
|---|---|
| Series Summary: | Sacramento takes 5 of 6 from Windy City. |
