Sacramento  Capitals @ Selkirk  Steelers

Series Preview:  Sacramento a first place team hosted Selkirk a last place team. Was the series even going to be interesting. YES YES YES.
Series result was closer than expected and the greatest two starts in a row I have seen in years of apba.
Game #1:  Sac scored 6 runs off Selkirk but Ross was amazing going 9 innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 11 and walking only one. sac 6 sel 0 Only hit was by Rodgers in the 8th inning.
Game #2:  Norris of Selkirk shocks Sac with a 3 hitter to improve to 2-18. Norris also hit an rbi triple in the win. Sel 3 Sac 0
Game #3:  Deshields homers and greinke goes all the way for the sac 7 sel 1 win.
Game #4:  Scherzer allows just 1 hit but sadly it was a Castro homer and the ace took the loss. Sel 2 Sac 0
Game #5:  Sale allows just one hit in 7 innings and got the 8-2 win for Sacramento
Game #6:  Ross in game one had a 1 hitter in game one could he do it again yes and one better a NO HITTER striking out 12 Steelers. Pujols hit his 16th homer. Sac 6 Sel 0
Ross game 1 95 game score beats it with a 97!
Series Summary:  Selkirk some how won Two of the six games with only 18 hits in 6 games.. Thats like .100 for the series.
Obvious pitcher of the week best i have ever seen Ross 18 innings 2 wins only 1 hit no runs 3 walks and 23 strikeouts.

Grand Haven  Gators @ Pittsburgh  Lumber Company

Series Summary:  Pittsburgh sweeps by scores of 8-6 (10), 5-4, 13-0, 4-2, 2-1, and 4-2.

Tempe  Tempers @ Triple Creek  Patriots

Series Preview:  Division leading Tempers take on Triple Creek. Triple Creek is enjoying its first ever season north of .500 – wonder how they will do vs. the buzz saw.
Game #1:  Iwakuma v. Graveman is a good one as Graveman does his best Iwakuma impersonation allowing just 1 run over 6 full. Hisashi leaves after 2.1 asking for the number of the truck that hit him – 8 hits (2 HRs) and 5 runs. Down 5-1 after 3 the Temper tack on 4 in the 7th and 8th to knot it up. Almora is the hero with a pinch hit walk-off Triple in the bottom of the 9th. Great way for the Patriots to start a tough series.

TT 5 TCP 6

W – Reed (5)
L – Law (3)
S – None

Game #2:  Cueto takes on Gausman in a nail-bier special. Joey Votto drives in the only 2 Temper runs and the Patriots out hit Tempe 5-4 but come up just short.

W – Cueto (14)
L – Logan (3)
S – Law (15)

W – Lester (18)
L – Meyer (2)
S – None

W – Guerra (10)
L – Griffin (7)
S – Barnette (8)

Game #5:  Steven Wright (not the comedian) improves to a perfect 15-0 with 6.2 innings of shutout ball. Tempers pick up single digit runs in 4 consecutive innings, applying the death of a 1,000 cuts.

TT 4 TCP 1

W – Wright (15)
L – Buchholz (6)
S – Law (16)

Game #6:  Iwakuma is baaaaack and looks a lot more like himself allowing just 1 run over 7+ frames. Tempers up 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 8th until Tom Layne gets drilled for 4 hits and 3 runs. After the dust clears in the top of the 9th we are all square 4-4. Boone Logan and Addison Reed team up for a wonderful “Hey Tom – what you can do I can do better” skit and allow 5 hits and 4 runs. Down 8-4, the Patriots strap on the foil and take Barnette into the boards hard forcing Belisle to clean-up a tough situation. Tempe gets the W but it was an ugly finish.

TT 8 TCP 6

W – Law (3)
L – Boone “I taste like Chicken” Logan (4)
S – Belisle (5)

Series Summary:  Chapter 1 was great but the rest of this book was a 3 snaps-down in an L formation. Tempe takes 5 of 6.

Game #4:  Dickey gives up a HR to Trout, but that is all. His hot streak continues as CCC wins 9-1.
Game #5:  MCM ace Hendricks brings reality back. He fires his own 1-hit shutout as MCM wins 9-0.
Game #6:  MCM jumps out early on the first of Freese’s two HR’s. They kept piling on in support of Degrom. MCM wins easily 13-4.

Series Summary:  Detroit takes series over Dallas 6-0.

Hollywood  Werewolves @ Tijuana  Bottle Rockets

Series Summary:  Hollywood takes 4 of 6.

Windy City  Black Sox @ Columbus  Explorers

Series Preview:  Windy City travels to Columbus – the Explorers hope to take advantage of a thin Black Sox rotation in order to give some players some needed playing time. Will it work? Yes ….
Game #1:  Gio Gonzalez vs. Ervin Santana – Santana goes 7, 3 hits, 1 run (Nolan Arenado SF) and the Explorers get 3 in the 2nd including a Russell Martin solo homer (10) – and that’s the scoring.
WCB 1-3-0 LP Gonzalez (9-7)
COL 3-8-2 WP Santana, S Darren O’Day (1)
Game #2:  Matt Harvey vs. Lance McCullers – and the whopping sticks came out for this one. 29 total hits, 19 from Columbus. Brandon Belt belts out 3 hits, Nolan Arenado, 2 hits, 2 rbis, Michael Saunders and Daniel Castro – 2 hits each. But Harvey was hit had, 10 hits and 7 runs into the 4th inning when he left. Big bats? Curtis Granderson – 3 hits (single, triple, homer [18], 3 rbis) and Alex Avila – 3 hits (single, double, homer [3], 3 rbi) led the 19 hit, 9 run offense. Score was 8-3 after 5 enroute to a 9-5 win.
WCB 5-10-0 LP Harvey (6-9)
COL 9-19-0 WP McCullers (4-3)
Game #3:  Jake Peavy vs. Wade LeBlanc – Columbus used 6 pitchers to limit the Black Sox to 4 hits – 2 by Rajai Davis – and pace the 7-0 shutout. Matt Carpenter had a single and homer (21) and 4 rbis to lead the way. Dee Gordon whacked out 3 singles.
WCB 0- 4-0 LP Peavy (4-6)
COL 7-11-1 WP Andy Chafin (1-0)
Game #4:  Jeff Samardzija vs. Matt Shoemaker – Black Sox through their ace in this one and he threw a great game. 7 innings, 6 hits, 6 ks and Samardzija gives up only 1 run. He got run support in the form of a 4 run 2nd as Rajai Davis reaches, Omar Narvarez reaches and then Alexei Ramirez doubles in a run. D Castro drives in one and Samardzija doubles in 2 more. And that was it and that was enough. Fernando Rodney gets his 3 in the 8th and Kenley Jansen closes it out in the 9th.
WCB 4-8-0 WP Samardzija (11-6) S Jansen (1)
COL 1-7-1 LP Shoemaker (10-4)
Game #5:  Chad Bettis vs. J.A. Happ -tight battle goes into the 9th with Columbus up 4-3. Francisco Rodriguez had closed the 8th, so Tony Watson got the 9th inning call. He does what he seems to do all too often. He gives up a walk and then a 2 run homer to Beltran (his 2nd homer of the day, 14, 15) and the gap is suddenly 4-3. But somehow, he regroups and saves the day (and probably a beat down from Happ). Happ got offensive support from Eduardo Nunez (3 hits, rbi, and 2 runs) and 2 hits each from Dee Gordon and Ben Revere.
WCB 3- 5-1 LP Bettis (6-12)
COL 4-10-0 WP Happ (12-5) S Watson (14)
Game #6:  Gio Gonzalez vs. Ervin Santana – Santana out does his game 1 performance. He goes 7 innings again, but this time gives up only 1 hit – Brian McCann – and no runs and 9 ks. Francisco Rodriguez and Tony Watson follow giving up only 1 more hit. Explorers knocked around 8 hits and crossed the plate twice – Gio was good, but not good enough to carry the team.
WCB 0-2-0 LP Gonzalez (9-8)
COL 2-8-0 WP Santana (10-4) S Watson (15)
Series Summary:  Columbus takes 5 of 6 and will pack their bags for a bus trip to Pittsburgh. Ervin Santana has a great week with 2 starts, 2 wins, 14 ip, 4 hits, 1 run!
Windy City visits the laundromat as they stay on the road and go to Rosemere.

Rosemere  Renegades @ Long Beach  Dirt Bags

Game #1:   Kelly Johnson hit a 3 run HR in the 5th to give Rosemere a 6-4 lead. Adam Lind hit a solo shot in the 8th to cut the lead in half but Long Beach couldn’t get the tying run across as the Renegades won 6-5.
Game #2:  For the second game in a row Kelly Johnson had the game winning hit. This time a single in the top of the 9th driving in Brandon Crawford giving Rosemere a 4-3 win.
Game #3:  In a matchup between 5-13 Mike Fiers and 2-14 Jerad Eickhoff, both managers were expecting to heavily use their bullpens. The baseball Gods had different ideas as Fiers threw a 6-hit shutout in Long Beach’s 1-0 win. Dustin Pedroia drove in the only run with a HR in the 4th. Jerad Eickhoff was the hard luck loser as he gave up just 4 hits in 7 innings as he dropped to 2-15 despite his 3.25 ERA.
Game #4:  Gregorio Petit hit a bases clearing 2B in the 9th to break a 1-1 tie and give Rosemere a 4-1 win. Both James Paxton and Jeremy Hellickson were great in another pitcher’s duel.
Game #5:  Jefry Marte broke a 2-2 tie with a 3 run HR in the 7th and Rosemere went on to a 7-2 win.
Game #6:  Long Beach takes the last game of the series 3-2. Tyler Skaggs took a shutout into the 8th when he loaded the bases with nobody out. Jared Hughes came in and allowed a run to score but protected the lead. Tyler Lyons closed out the win and picked up his 7th save.
Series Summary:  Rosemere takes 4 of the 6 games at Long Beach

Corktown  Cycle @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview:  Corktown heads over to Bethesda in a divisional matchup with the Cycle trying to make up ground on Windy City and Pittsburgh while the Bandicoots fight to keep space between them and the Lumber Company who started the week just six games back and climbing.
Game #1:  Not the start that Doug Fister or the Bandicoots wanted as shoddy defence and starting pitching combine to give Corktown a 7-5 win in the opener. The Cycle were all over Fister early, scoring four times in the 1st inning. They put things on cruise control after that until the 7th when one of Aledmys Diaz’s throwing errors lead to three runs (one earned) which proved key in the eventual win and the comeback attempt that fell a little short. Michael Taylor and Chris Perez each drove in two for Corktown with Perez driving in his runs with his 3rd homer of the season. DeSclafani continued his dominance improving to 10-2 with a 1.69 ERA. Get the fuck outta here … well, if Doug Fister can pitch around a 3.00 ERA then why not I suppose. Fister fell to 7-6 with a 2.94 ERA. Jon Jay (4), Aledmys Diaz (16) and Travis Shaw (13) all homered off Corktown reliever Jose DeLeon in the bottom of the 7th to make things interesting.
Game #2:  John Lackey tossed a one-hitter to pace the Bandicoots to a 2-0 win to even the series. Lackey (10-4) struck out five and walked one in the game. Corktown starter Tom Koehler clunked Anthony Rendon in the noggin’ and put him out for a couple of days. Robert Andino and Hyun-Soo Kim each had two hits for Bethesda.
Game #3:  Jake Arrieta’s walk woes continued but the Bandicoot bats made it a moot point as the connected for 17 hits in a 9-1 triumph over Corktown. Arrieta (13-3) walked three in five innings. Rolin Rea (5-13) lasted three innings for Corktown allowing five runs on seven hits. Marcus Semien (9) homered for the Cycle while Lorenzo Cain (5) did likewise for Bethesda.
Game #4:  Corktown starter Braden Shipley had all cylinders firing … until the 4th inning when the Bandicoots bashed him around but good for six runs en route to a 7-2 win. Shipley (4-3) allowed six runs on eight hits in four innings while walking three and striking out one. Rich Hill was not sharp for Bethesda – two runs on three hits and a couple of walks in five innings – but he was good enough to improve to 8-0. Eric Hosmer drove in both Corktown runs with a two-run single in the first inning. Jon Jay was 4/5 for the Bandicoots with his 5th homer. Hyun-soo Kim (7) also homered for Bethesda
Game #5:  Travis Shaw blasted a two-run shot into the cheap seats in the bottom of the 10th to complete the comeback for Bethesda as they won 5-2 in extra frames. Shaw’s homer came just an inning after Anthony Rendon sent an Alex Colome fastball out of the park to tie things up in the bottom of the 9th. It was Shaw’s 14th homer and Rendon’s 21st. Adam Eaton had a couple of hits including a solo homer (#10) for Corktown. Shaw added a couple of doubles to finish at 3/5 on the day for Bethesda.
Game #6:  Alex Dickerson got revenge for the Cycle as he slammed a Ryan Madson pitch over the left field wall with Eric Hosmer aboard in the 10th to lift Corktown to a 5-4 win in the series finale. Adrian Gonzalez made things interesting by doubling in a run in the Bandicoots’ half of the 10th but the offense sputtered and couldn’t bring him around to score. For Madson, it was a nice carrying on of a nightmare second half that saw his ERA balloon to 5.40 with routine terrible outings out of the pen to the point where he could barely be trusted to get the bullpen catchers coffee. Dickerson’s homer was his 8th of the season. The Cycle managed five runs on just seven hits in the game … thanks in a big way to Bethesda’s sloppy fielding that resulted in just two of the runs being earned.
Series Summary:  Corktown grabs 2 of 6 games against Bethesda.
