Jersey  Nor’easters @ Sacramento  Capitals

Series Summary:  Sacramento sweeps Jersey in the six-game set. Sacramento’s pitching was stellar once again, giving up an average of only 1 run per game, but with three extra innings walk-off wins, the offense made it much closer than the record would suggest.

Bethesda  Bandicoots @ Selkirk  Steelers

Series Preview:  First place Bethesda visits last place Selkirk. This was a series I wasn’t looking forward to playing. The Bethesda pitching is very strong and its seems avoiding be no hit was the Selkirk goal for the series.
Game #1:  In the second Anthony Rendon doubled and scored by Travis Shaw. But that was all Bethesda could put on the Board. But that was all Jake Odorizzi and Ryan Madson needed. Beth 1 Sel 0
Game #2:  Anthony Rendon and Derek Norris each drove in arun for Bethesda. But once again that was it. Could Selkirk do something against Arietta. Ah no but it was a good game. Beth 2 Sel 0
Game #3:  Gray this time shutdown the Steelers. Anthony Rendon again drove in a run. Beth 3 Sel 1
Game #4:  Trevor Story homers for Bethesda and John Gant shutdowns a horrid Steeler team Beth 3 sel 0
Game #5:  Anthony Rendon drove in 2 and Doug Fister allowed just 1 run. Beth 4 sel 1
Game #6:  Selkirk’s great pitching in this series final is rewarded in a 3-2 extra inning win. Anthony Rendon homered in the loss.

Tijuana  Bottle Rockets @ Motor City  Muscle

Series Preview:  TIJ @ MCM for a 6 game series to close out the first half.
Game #1:  TIJ 7 – MCM 1

WP: Kluber
LP: Leake

HR: TIJ–Schebler, Encarnacion, Russell

Cory Kluber was dealing, and the TIJ offense got going with back-to-back solo shots in the 4th. Edwin Encarnacio had three RBI for TIJ

Game #2:  MCM 6 – TIJ 4

WP: Zimmermann
LP: A. Sanchez
SV: Ottavino

HR: TIJ–Lamb; MCM–Loney (GS)

Jose Ramirez got Motor City off to a good start with a 1st inning RBI single and a steal of home. After a Jake Lamb solo HR in the 4th, MCM answered with a James Loney grand slam. Addison Russell’s 6th inning based-loaded double tightened it up, but Adam Ottavino slammed the door shut.

Game #3:  MCM 4 – TIJ 2

WP: Verlander
LP: Devenski
SV: Diekman

HR: TIJ–Odor; MCM–Moss

Brandon Moss’s 3-run HR in the first gave Justin Verlander, who struck out 13, all the runs he would need. Paulo Orlando added a big insurance run in the 8th with an RBI triple. Roughned Odor’s two-run homer was the offense for TIJ

Game #4:  MCM 9 – TIJ 7

WP: de Grom
LP: J. Nelson
SV: Harris

HR: TIJ–Odor (2), Bautista, Encarnacion, Sanchez; MCM–Panik, S. Perez

A real slugfest, with seven HRs hit between the two teams. HRs accounted for all TIJ’s runs, but MCM pulled it out with a five-run 4th inning and some tightrope walking by their bullpen. Roughned Odor continued his torrid hitting with two more HRs. Salvadore Perez had the big blow for MCM, with his 3-run HR, but Joe Panik, Paulo Orlando, and David Freese all had two RBI apiece.

Game #5:  TIJ 7 – MCM4

WP: A. Sanchez
LP: Godley
SV: Otero

HR: TIJ–Odor; MCM–S. Perez

Roughned Odor’s three RBI were the difference for TIJ, especially his 9th inning two0run homer to bust open a one-run game. Justin Upton and Addison Russell each had two RBI for TIJ. Salvvadore Perez had three RBI for MCM. Anibel Sanchez came back on short rest to get the victory.

Game #6:  TIJ 3 – MCM 1

WP: Roark
LP: Verlander (CG)
SV: Devenski

HR: none

Justin Verlander deserved a better fate, as he again struck out 13 and had a no-hitter through five innings, but Tanner Roark shut down the MCM offense after a 3rd inning Paulo Orlando RBI double. Three different TIJ hitters had RBI in their three-run 6th inning.

Series Summary:  TIJ and MCM split the 6 games

Roughned Odor had 4 HRs and 8 RBI

TIJ ad 11 HRs in the series

Justin Verlander struck out 26 batters in 17 innings

Virginia  Sluggers @ Coconut Creek  Crushers

Game #1:  Markakis leads VIR to a 14-7 blowout.   Myers and Duvall hit a combined 6 of 8 with 3 HRs and 6 RBI to no avail.
Game #2:  Tillman shows ace stuff in a 2-hit shutout with 14 K’s. VIR wins 5-0.
Game #3:  Myers and Duvall again are strong. Their combined 4 of 8, 2 HR’s and 5 RBI fell short of what was needed. Springer and Segura combined 6 of 9, 2 HR’s and 6 RBI carried VIR to an 11-7 win.
Game #4:  Duvall homers in the 9th inning to spoil the VIR shutout.  Archer is dominant as VIR wins 7-1.
Game #5:  VIR is cruising 4-1 into the 9th. CCC plates 4 and walks off with a stolen victory 5-4.
Game #6:  This time CCC takes a 2-rn lead into the 9th. Iglesias can’t save it and the game goes extras. CCC plates a run in the 10th for our second consecutive 5-4 walk off win.
Game #7:  Iglesias is still pissed about blowing the Game-6 save so he starts Game-7.  He hurls 7 innings of shutout ball and Betts gives him all the support he needs as CCC wins the finale 4-1.
Series Summary:  Virginia cruises through the first four games. CCC bounces back and takes the final three games.

Game #1:  Gerrit Cole spun 7 scoreless innings and combined with Kelvin Herrera for the shutout. YSS 4 – FRE 0
Game #2:  Carlos Rodon was the more effective of the 2 SP. Six first inning runs for the Cannons pretty much ended things. FRE 10 – YSS 8
