For the second week in a row Long Beach hosts a first place team. This time Columbus from the Central division.

Columbus scored 5 runs in the second on a 2 run HR by Choo and a 2 run 2B by Revere. That was all Severino needed as he pitched 8 scoreless innings in the 6-0 win.
Game #2: |
Blackmon broke a 1-1 tie with a run scoring 2B in the 8th. Holt drove him in to give Columbus a 3-1 win. They got great starting pitching again as Happ gave up no earned runs in 8 innings and struck out 8.
Game #3: |
Columbus broke a 3-3 tie in the 9th on a Carpenter bases load 1B. Choo followed with a grand slam to give the Explorers an 8-5 win. Carpenter hit 2 HRs and had 3 RBI.
Game #4: |
Long Beach got 7 strong innings from Jimenez to get their first win of the series 3-1. Hardy and Martinez had key RBIs.
Game #5: |
Perez went the distance in the Dirt Bags 4-1 win. He also was 2-3 at the plate and drove in a run. Gennett had a 2 run 3B in the 6th to open the scoring.
Game #6: |
Columbus jumped out to a 7-0 lead behind Choo’s 3 run HR and 2 run 2B. They were coasting until Martinez hit a grand slam in the 8th. But that was the end of the scoring as the Explorers won 7-4.
Game #7: |

New York Outlaws @ Bethesda Bandicoots | |
---|---|
Series Preview |
The New York Outlaws come into Bethesda hoping to continue the slide that the Bandicoots began at the hands of Long Beach last week while Bethesda fights to keep pace with Pittsburgh for the division lead.
Game #1: |
A pitchers’ duel all the way with both Cody Anderson of New York and Sonny Gray of Bethesda going the distance with three hitters, but it was the ‘Coots that would come out ahead 2-0.
Game #2: |
Adrian Gonzalez belted his 10th home run of the season off Yusmeiro Petit for a 5-4 Bethesda walkoff win in the bottom of the 13th.
Game #3: |
Another close game that wound up going Bethesda’s ways as the teams traded a pair of homers and Jake Odorizzi improved to 6-0 with a 5-3 win by the Bandicoots. Alex Rodriguez triggered the Bethesda win with a two-run triple in the bottom of the 7th.
Game #4: |
Chris Young outduelled Cole Hamels with eight shutout innings and Bethesda went on to win 4-0 on home runs by J.P.Arencibia, Alex Rodriguez and Chris Colabello.
Game #5: |
Another squeaker that saw Jake Arrieta give up a run on three hits in a shaky 1st inning, but then he got his shit together and allowed just two hits the rest of the way as Bethesda edged New York 2-1. The winning run came in the bottom of the 8th inning when with the score tied 1-1, New York reliever Joe Blanton threw a ball into the dirt that catcher Stephen Vogt couldn’t handle allowing Travis Shaw to race home from 3rd.
Game #6: |
Another game decided by shoddy defence as Outlaws’ catcher Brian McCann apparently couldn’t stand the sight of pinch runner Matt den Dekker on base and allowed two passed balls that allowed the Bethesda outfielder to score the game winner in the bottom of the 8th in another close Bandicoot 3-2 win.
Series Summary |
A very close series with all but one game within a couple of runs, but the baseball gods were fickle and gave back what they took away last week leaving the Bandicoots with the sweep at the expense of the Outlaws.
