YONGE STREET & TEMPE HOOK UP IN TRADE
For Immediate Release
April 27, 1999
MWBL NEWS (Bristol) – The always busy Yonge Street Stalkers are at it again!! In an early pre-trade deadline swap, the Stalkers struck a deal with the Tempe Tempers. In his ongoing effort to make the Stalkers younger, owner and general manager Scott Farquharson had a tough decision to make. In the end, it was one he felt he had to make. He was quoted as saying “He may be a good talent, but I can’t stand that fat toad.” Pretty strong words for the owner of a team struggling to a 12-28 record.
Details of the trade: The Yonge Street Stalkers receive OF Orlando Palmiero, P Sidney Ponson, and the Tempers 1st Round Pick in the upcoming draft. The Tempe Tempers receive P Hideki Irabu, and IF Ed Giovanola. This seems to be a deal that helps both owners do what they started the year trying to accomplish. Stalkers owner Scott Farquharson ended this press conference by stating: “This won’t be the last deal I will make this year, There are only a handful of untouchables on this team”  We’ll keep you informed on this and any deals that follow.
