STEPHEN STRASBURG – HALL OF FAME BIO
Stephen Strasburg should receive serious consideration for the Mid-West Baseball League Hall of Fame, defined by 13 seasons of singular dominance with the Detroit Crime. Drafted first overall in 2009, Strasburg quickly became one of the league’s most terrifying strikeout artists and a foundational ace for the franchise.
Over his career (2011-2023), Strasburg compiled 123 wins with a stellar 3.03 ERA and an elite 1.03 WHIP and 1,859 strikeouts across 1566.2 innings pitched. This includes a monumental 2020 season, where he notched 19 wins, a career-high 278 strikeouts, and a minuscule 0.93 WHIP, cementing his place as one of the MWBL’s premier pitchers of his era. His signature achievement lies in his career 10.7 K/9 rate, currently the best in league history.
Strasburg’s value was not confined to the regular season; he was a consistent post-season contributor, pitching in the Wild Card Round, Division Series, League Championships, and the World Series. While his overall playoff numbers fluctuated, he excelled in the critical League Championship Series, posting a strong 2.84 ERA across 25.1 innings with 31 strikeouts, demonstrating his ability to rise to the occasion deep into October. In his 2020 All-Star Game appearance, he delivered a perfect, scoreless inning.
Though injuries shortened his career, his eight-year peak and his dominant strikeout rate ensure that Stephen Strasburg’s resume is Hall of Fame worthy.
