For Immediate Release
May 1, 2002

DETROIT (AP) — With a single, triple and home run in his first three at-bats, knew what needed to be done.   After grounding out in his next plate appearance, Gutierrez lined a two-run double down the left-field line, completing the cycle and helping the Yonge Street Stalkers to an 12-7 victory Tuesday in the Detroit.   Gutierrez, who drove in four runs, put the Stalkers ahead 3-0 with his first inning single. “Well, you know what you need,” Gutierrez said of his last at-bat. “But the last thing you’re trying to do is hit a double. I was just trying to hit the ball hard. That’s what I’m trying to do every time up.   “It’s a special day. It’s a lucky day when something like that happens. I caught a couple of breaks with the ball staying inside the line [on his double and triple]. It’s kind of cool.” Albert Pujols hit his third home run of the season, a two-run drive off  (0-1) in the third, and  won his first game, sending the crime to their second consecutive loss.   Gutierrez, who entered the game hitting  .274 with no RBIs, went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer, triple, two-run double and single to raise his average to .307.
