MATT HOLLIDAY – HALL OF FAME BIO
Matt Holliday’s 15-season tenure in the Mid-West Baseball League (MWBL) firmly establishes him as one of the league’s most accomplished and valuable offensive threats, making his case for the MWBL Hall of Fame unassailable.
Primarily known for his dominant years with the Severn Express, Holliday cemented his legacy as a true superstar in 2008, winning the American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. That campaign saw him hit a career-best .341 with 44 home runs, 144 RBIs, and a staggering 1.052 OPS. His consistency was further recognized by six All-Star selections, including three consecutive starting nods from 2007 to 2009.
Holliday played for three teams—the Severn Express, Coconut Creek Crushers, and Manhattan Project—and retired with elite career totals: 1,907 hits, 306 home runs, 1117 runs scored, and 1,044 runs batted in (RBI), posting a career .860 OPS.
His value extended deep into October. Across 87 career Post-Season games, he showcased clutch performance across all four rounds: Wild Card, Division Series, League Championships, and the World Series. His best playoff work came in the 2008 and 2011 Division Series (1.223 and 1.030 OPS, respectively) and the 2007 and 2011 League Playoff Series (1.233 and 1.0012 OPS, respectively). Holliday’s combination of peak MVP-level performance, sustained excellence, and clutch Post-Season impact makes him a defining figure in MWBL history.
