MATT CAIN – HALL OF FAME BIO
Matt Cain’s 13-season Mid-West Baseball League career, spanning the Midland, Jacksonville, Yonge Street, and the dominant Tempe Tempers franchises, makes him an undeniable selection for the Hall of Fame. His career totals of 161 wins and 1,823 strikeouts over 2,130.3 innings pitched established him as one of the most durable and practical aces of his era, finishing with an impressive 3.16 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.
Cain’s peak was a historic run from 2011-2013 with Tempe. He secured consecutive Cy Young Awards in 2012 and 2013, earned a Gold Glove (2013), and was named a three-time League All-Star (two-time Starter). His 2012 campaign was statistically untouchable, where he went 34-2 with a league-best 1.33 ERA and a 0.71 WHIP.
His value amplified in the post-season, demonstrating composure across all four rounds. In the Division Series, Cain notched 3 wins with a stellar 2.76 ERA across nine starts. Though the League Championship Series was highly competitive (3.39 ERA), he delivered high-leverage consistently starts. Most impressively, in his two 2013 World Series appearances, he was flawless, pitching 11.1 innings of 0.00 ERA baseball and securing a pivotal victory. Cain also delivered in the All-Star Games, going 5.0 scoreless innings across his three outings. His dominance and ability to perform under pressure make him a Hall of Fame lock.
