KIP WELLS GOES SIXTH TO THE CLOVIS WHEAT KINGS
For Immediate Release
February 5, 2000
Draft Central — Detroit, Michigan   The Clovis Wheat Kings had the distinct pleasure of announcing that right-handed pitcher Kip Wells was selected with the 6th overall pick in the Mid-West Baseball League 2000 Draft. Clovis General Manager Rick Cooper said that “The Wheat Kings expect big things from Kip, but he should spend most of the 2000 season down on the farm gaining some valuable experience. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him up in the Show before the season is over, however”.  Wells would appear at this point in his career to have the complete package, a low 90’s fastball, a sharp curve, good control, and tenacity and composure on the mound. He will be expected to eventually join a staff that includes David Wells, Aaron Sele, and Francisco Cordova, among others, but that has never really lived up to expectations. Clovis may be still looking to add more pitching in the remainder of the draft, but then which team isn’t?
