JERMAINE DYE GOES SECOND IN MWBL DRAFT TO OREGON

For Immediate Release
February 5, 2000

Draft Central —  Detroit, Michigan   On the heels of yet another blockbuster trade in the MWBL that sent Derek Jeter to Kentucky, the Oregon Neon Knights revealed that with Severn’s first round draft pick (acquired from Kentucky in the deal) they will select Jermaine Dye.  Oregon general manager Dan LaPointe was quoted as saying, “We are very excited about bringing in a young talented outfielder like Jermaine.  This move will strengthen our outfield tremendously.”   Since the formation of the Neon Knights’ roster two months ago, their outfield has long been thought of as their most glaring hole.  “While the loss of Derek is certainly hard to swallow, we are very confident in our remaining infielders,” said LaPointe.  “Dye will help us out on many levels – he’s a five-tool player.  We also were able to help out our pitching staff with the addition of Doug [Brocail] and Darren [Oliver], while not sacrificing our future.  Overall, I think both teams will be reaping the benefits of this trade for years to come.” .
