HALL OF FAME INAUGURAL INDUCTEE – CHRIS DOUGLASS

For Immediate Release
July 17th, 2003

The inaugural MWBL Veteran’s Hall of Fame Committee, tasked with a difficult challenge, voted one of its own to be the founding inductee to the MWBL HOF — Chris Douglass of the Tempe Tempers.Chris Douglass's Hall of Fame Star

Chris’ commitment to the league, excellence between the lines, and at the General Manager level were all key components to the Committee’s decision. There will be no debate as to which cap Chris will wear in the HOF. With the Tempers winning a gaudy 71.6% of their games, Chris clearly commands the day to day management and player personnel decisions of a world class franchise. Moreover, Chris contributes to the MWBL by producing data disks and career statistical databases. And, the Tempers volunteered for the re-modification draft prior to the 2002 season to promote league parity.

In the closest possible vote, the Veterans Committee’s decision was difficult. Chris edged out MWBL founder John “Stray” Corrado by (5-4) one single vote. Stray’s dedication to the league, amazing work with the website, and overall MWBL passion were recognized strongly in the voting. The close vote certainly speaks to the depth and quality ownership found within the MWBL. The MWBL HOF hopes to continue this positive momentum with the Hall of Fame Exhibits to be inducted over the course of the summer. At the conclusion of the 2003 season, the first player votes will occur and the Veteran’s Committee being reformed to elect another owner.

Thanks for your participation in the HOF to this point. And congratulations to Chris Douglass on this well-deserved accomplishment!
