DOES YONGE STREET GENERAL MANAGER REALLY HAVE A CLUE?

For Immediate Release
June 25th, 2002

TORONTO – Has Los Angeles found the addition that pushes them to the top?  In a blockbuster trade that came “under the radar”, the Riots acquired Albert Pujols from Yonge Street.  The deal gives L.A. a pretty significant offensive upgrade at third base and another big run producer to go along with Bret Boone.  The two combined to drive in more than 270 runs last year.
What The Hell Was He Thinking? The addition of the young star came at a cost, however as the Riots send a nice group of young talent north of the border.  In the exchange, the Riots sent young SS Rafael Furcal, along with OF Gabe Kapler and two more inexperienced players in Tampa Bay 3B prospect Jared Sandberg and Seattle OF prospect Chris Snelling whom Yonge Street G.M Scott Farquharson called “the key to the deal”.  Yonge Street also included a couple of veterans in Ricky Gutierrrez and Brady Anderson and a former highly rated prospect in Wes Anderson who has been slowed by injuries over the past two seasons and been passed by on the prospect list in Florida.  So, L.A. adds a big spark to their pennant drive and Yonge Street continues to try to have an average age of 20.
In another quote from the often ridiculed G.M from Yonge Street, Scott Farquharson said: “By the time the trading deadline has passed, the five year plan I have been preaching will be replaced by a new and improved 3 year plan that starts today”.  He didn’t stick around to answer the follow up questions from reporters and one has to wonder if dealing his only true star will allow him to answer ANY more questions……we’ll have to wait and see.
