COLUMBUS MAKES DEAL WITH SEVERN

December 3, 1998

ESPN NEWS (Bristol) – The Columbus Explorers, looking to get back in the MWBL Playoffs, made a major push towards there 1999 goal, in a 11 player 4 draft pick trade with division rival, the Severn Express. Columbus beefed up not only their rotation, but strengthened their bullpen, defense at shortstop, and acquired a good glove lead-off hitter as well. Severn, acquired some younger talent, and was pleased with the deal, knowing that their future in the MWBL, is still a year or two away. The specifics on the deal go like this:


 

 

 

Columbus Receives: Sean Bergman, Mike Stanley, Turk Wendell, Dave Veres, Mike Bordick, Quinton McCracken, Joe Girardi, & Severn’s Round 6 pick in the 1999 MWBL Draft.
Severn Receives: Columbus Round 1 pick, Columbus Round 2 pick, Columbus Round 3 pick, Michael Barrett, Kevin Stocker, Pep Harris, & Eli Marrero.
