2014 MWBL RE-DRAFT – (WHAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED)
Mid-West Baseball League Commissioner’s Office – Report submitted by Chris DeMecurio – Corktown Cycle. – July 9th, 2021
The rules are simple. I selected a player to draft with each pick in the 1st round of the 2014 MWBL Draft from the players that were selected somewhere in that draft. Minor league players had to make it up by the end of the 2016 season or it would be a waste of a pick no matter how good they were. Remember, it’s impossible to know what each owner would have done with a chance to re-draft, so I did my best to mix the player’s actual MLB career with their MWBL career and remaining potential. Let’s keep in mind this was for fun. With that said, go ahead and share your thoughts, and rip on some of my re-draft picks, but more importantly feel free to call out owners for their actual picks.
Image how different the MWBL could have been if the guys listed below had made it up in time. But, they did not, so they’ve automatically been eliminated from the redraft because they obviously would not have been worth it. Keep in mind, the redraft is not perfect. It is just a different way to look at what could have been. This is 12 rounds worth of players and 28 teams. This is more to show how difficult it is to manage the chaos of Draft Day. Since I had not been in the league yet in 2014, it makes it easy for me to laugh at your picks. My day is coming though. Continue reading
2013 MWBL RE-DRAFT – (WHAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED)

JULIO RODRIGUEZ GOES #1 TO THE CHICAGO MOBSTERS
With the first pick in the 2020 Mid-West Baseball League Draft, the Chicago Mobsters select from the Seattle Mariners Organization – right-handed-hitting outfielder Julio Rodriguez.
Chicago’s management feels there isn’t a prospect in the draft with more upside than Rodriguez.
A Chance to be a run-producing impact bat, one who hits for average & power, Rodriguez has an advanced approach at the plate, especially given his age & excellent raw power.
Described as a physical beast – he might have 70 Raw Power & the ability to play a corner outfield, with an arm perfectly suited for right field.
RodrÃguez was one of only three 18-year old teenagers to play High-A ball in 2019 & not only did he reach that level—he dominated it for 17 games.
For RodrÃguez, he’s constantly focused on improving his approach at the plate, an approach that evaluators inside and outside baseball describe as extremely advanced.
An athletic specimen and five-tool player, advanced beyond his years, with a ceiling so high it lets your imagination run wild!
Balancing the charisma of a future star with the work ethic of a 25th-man grinder – Julio Rodriguez is just that & now he’s property of the Chicago Mobsters organization.
Once again the Chicago Mobsters Select Julio Rodriguez with the #1 Pick in the 2020 Mid-West Baseball League Draft.
