ALEX RODRIGUEZ HAS HUGE DAY WITH 3 HR’s and 12 RBI’s

For Immediate Release
May 23, 2000

TEMPE: (AP)  –  Blowouts in Mid-West Baseball League are frequently wacky. While some managers shake their heads in disgust as they are often forced to dispense their entire bullpen like so much cheap toilet paper, maybe even calling on an utility infielder to pitch an inning or two. Nonetheless, the accomplishment of all-star Los Angeles Riots shortstop Alex Rodriguez on May 13th, 2000 was beyond “wacky”. The Riots were playing against the Tempe Tempers at Coors Field.  Batting second in a (cough!) dynamic lineup that featured the likes of Sean Casey or Ray Lankford, Rodriguez put up a spectacular stat line. His performance included 3 HR and 12 RBI in the game.   It was of historical magnitude. I’m not going to dwell on the fact that one of Rodriguez’s three homers were hit off a third baseman making his major-league debut (Ed Giovanola). That would just be stating the obvious. Rodriguez’s big game included a home run, and two grand slams.  Home run Numbers one and two were hit off Chris Holt, and Lou Pote. Rodriguez capped the feat also collecting a single, and a double.

A breakdown of the home runs:
#1: grand slam
#2: 3-run homer
#3: grand slam

Rodriguez is currently filling the role of a slugger this year for the Riots. You have got to believe that Los Angeles is praying that Rodriguez retires with the Riots! I can already imagine Rodriguez’s speech the day they retire his number: “The sky was angry that day, my friends…”
