2013 WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS- WEEK #18

· Selkirk Steelers @ Sacramento Capitals
Series Preview	This did not look like a very fun series to play as the last place team from Selkirk, was facing the 2012 champion Sacramento Capitals who have the best record in the MWBL.
Game #1:	Was as you expected. Albert Pujols had 3 hits and two doubles, Beltran doubled 3 times and Kottaras also had two doubles. Lewis gets the easy win. McAllister took the loss. Capitals 9 Steelers 2
Game #2:	Selkirk sent hard luck starter Josh Johnson to face Karstans. As expected Selkirk didn’t hit much just scoring just 2 runs as Cuddyer homered. Amazingly Johnson looked like it was 2010 as he dominated the Capitals throwing a 2 hitter. Selkirk 2 Sacramento 0
Game #3:	Chad Jenkins pitched to contact and it worked great vs the Steelers. He goes 7 shutout innings and it would have been a shutout but Patton allowed a rbi double with 2 out in the 9th. Pujols 3 more hits and a homer in this 12-1 Capital blowout.
Game #4:	Sacramento sent Verlander to the mound, Steeler fans were begging to avoid the no hitter. Selkirk sent a rookie of limited talent Hefner to slaughter. Vegas was paying 20:1 in this matchup. Verlander was ok 2 in 7 with just one a mistake to BJ Upton. Uehara (24*) was awful as he gave up 3 doubles in the 8th allowing 2 insurance runs… Yes Hefner amazingly shutdown Cano, Pujols, Molina, Beltran and company as he throw a 4 hitter, and walking just 1. Selkirk 4 Sac 0
Game #5:	Great game as Selkirk ace Hammels goes 6 shutout innings but Sacs Cliff Lee went 7.1 shutout innings. The game remained 0-0 until the 10th when Torii Hunter played hero and drove in Nelson. SAC 1 SEL 0 Vincent gets the win/
Game #6:	Lewis was great (just 2 hits) but allowed 3 in 6 as McKendry hit a big homer and Tazawa throw batting practice as Selkirk noted sluggers Bourjois and Maier went back to back off the “H” . Selkirk’s McAllister K’d 8 and walked just 1 in 7.1 innings. Howell picked up the save. Selkirk 6 Sacramento 1
Series Summary *	Amazingly Selkirk gets the highlight of their season so far as they split against a far far better team. Had the 10 inning game gone the other way Selkirk would have won the series. Pujols started off like he was going to have a great week but got cold as the Selkirk kids adjusted.

· Tijuana Bottle Rockets @ Pittsburgh Lumber Company
Series Preview	Tijuana makes the trip north to take on the Lumber Company in a 6 game set
Series Summary *	Pittsburgh takes 2 out of the first 3, Tijuana then turns it on and takes the final three to claim a 4-2 road series victory.

· Southbend Lynx @ Chicago Mobsters
Series Preview	Southbend heads into the Windy City for some Mid-West Baseball League Action.
Game #1:	Eric Stluts (8-2 1.46) is masterful through 6 innings. John Jaso is 4 for 5 and leads the charge for the Lynx. Final Score: Southbend 9 – Chicago 0
Game #2:	Southbend scores one in the 8th and one in the 9th to take the win. Buster Posey trying to score from 1st base rolls his ankle at the plate and is out for 3 days for the Mobsters. Final Score: Southbend 6 – Chicago 5
Game #3:	Another last run scored for the Lynx gives them the win, but at a cost. Kevin Frandsen is out of commission for the Lynx for 30 days. Final Score: Southbend 6 – Chicago 5 – (15 Innings)
Game #4:	C.C. Sabathia (17-4 2.99) goes the distance in his 32 career Shutout (MWBL – All time leader). Andrew McCutchen is 3 for 4 with 2 HR’s & 3 RBI’s. Final Score: Chicago 9 – Southbend 0
Game #5:	Adam Wainwright goes 8 soild, Dexter Fowler homers and drives in two. Aroldis Chapman pitches a 1-2-3 ninth as Chicago takes this one to the bank. Final Score: Chicago 2 – Southbend 1
Game #6:	Felix Hernandez (17-5 2.33) is the King and in the last game of this six game set the King was on! Felix throws a No-Hitter against the Lynx. (Second one the Mobsters have thrown against the Lynx this year). Felix walked one and one reached base on an error. Final Score: Chicago 5 – Southbend 0
Series Summary *	A split for the series, in some fun games. Head 2 Head action using http://www.join.me – made for a fun series.

· Valdosta Snappers @ Jersey Nor’easters
Series Preview	The Nor’easters hope to strengthen their bid to win the division by hosting a struggling Valdosta team
Game #1:	Howie Kendrick and Miguel Montero hit 1st inning homers that wind up being the only runs scored in the game. Chris Capuano pitches a complete game shutout. Jersey wins 2-0.
Game #2:	Same script. Reed Johnson hits a 3-run homer for Jersey that also is the only runs scored in the game. Barry Zito pitches a complete game shutout. Jersey wins 3-0.
Game #3:	Same script again….not quite. Jose Quintana pitches 5 scoreless innings for the Nor’easters bringing the scoreless streak to 23 consecutive innings. Valdosta mounts a comback from a 5-0 deficit but fall short. Jersey wins 5-4.
Game #4:	Choo and Polanco homer for Jersey and they hold on again for a 6-4 win.
Game #5:	Howie Kendrick hits a 2-run double in the 1st inning, Johnny Cueto pitches solid for 8 innings as the Nor’easters win 5-2.
Game #6:	No contest. Jersey scores early and often cruising to a 11-3 win. Capuano wins his 11th game.
Series Summary *	A series sweep for the Nor’easters assuring that they remain Division leaders for at least another week.

· Clovis Wheat Kings @ Long Beach Dirt Bags
Series Summary *	Long Beach takes 4 of 6 from Clovis.

· Elyria Indians @ Coconut Creek Crushers
Series Preview	Crushers celebrate their 7th consecutive East Division crown. Except….. we are in the West where it takes 105+ wins to even sniff a playoff spot.
Game #1:	Kuroda K’s 13 in a complete game 5-1 CCC win.
Game #2:	Shawn Marcum was in complete control in a 4-1 CCC win.
Game #3:	Elyria jumps on Santana early and holds on for a 6-4 win.
Game #4:	Hard fought game. CCC wins 4-3 in 10 innings on Ruggiano’s clutch 2B.
Game #5:	Elyria takes a 2-run lead into the 9th inning only to see the Crushers hit back to back solo homers to send it to extras. This time though, it is Elyria that comes through as Allen Craig hits a HR in the 11th to win the game 5-4.
Game #6:	Crushers cruise behind Kuroda 10-3.
Series Summary *	Crushers win the series 4-2.

· Yonge Street Stalkers @ Severn Express
Series Preview	Yonge Street travels to Severn for a 6 game series.
Series Summary *	In a very close series, the home team is able to win 5 of 6.

· Fremont Cannons @ Hollywood Werewolves
Series Summary *	Hollywood starts the series with 2 shutouts and finishes with a sweep

· Virginia Sluggers @ Dallas Cougars
Game #1:	A 4 run first highlighted by a 2 run home run by Rasmus propels Dallas to victory. Final Score: Dallas 5, Virginia 2
Game #2:	The Sluggers jump out to a 5-0 lead with the big hit being Rizzo’s 3 RBI double. Virginia got their first run when Volstad balked home a runner in the first. Dallas got 3 two out singles in the 7th to cut the lead to 5-3. Dallas gets some more 2 out magic in the 8th when light hitting batters Hill and Martinez tie and put the Cougars into the lead. Although both hitters are well below .200 they would both go 2 for 4 in the game. Final Score: Dallas 6, Virginia 5
Game #3:	After the Sluggers got a run in the first Dallas scored 9 runs over the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings to cruise to victory. Final Score: Dallas 9, Virginia 5
Game #4:	Danks cools off the Cougar hitters and the Sluggers slug 4 home runs including two by Stanton. Final Score: Virginia 6, Dallas 1
Game #5:	The Sluggers jumped out to a 6 zip lead and didn’t look back. Final Score: Virginia 8, Dallas 5
Game #6:	Dobbs doubles home Rhymes with two outs in the bottom of the 8th breaking a 3-3 tie to give Dallas the win. Lannan pitches a complete game, but is now done for the year. Final Score: Dallas 4, Virginia 3.
Series Summary *	Dallas hitters came alive hitting .280 for the series. This was the first series Dallas has won this year as they win 4 of 6 against Virginia.

Iron City bounces back by taking five out of six from Motor City.
Series Summary *	After a rough couple of weeks, the Yinzers flex their muscles at home, still hanging on in the playoff race.

· Camarillo Quest @ Manhattan Project
Series Preview	Camarillo is 61-47 Manhattan’s record— almost exactly the reverse. Camarillo wins series 5-1
Game #1:	Camarillo 6-3 Dickey has CG– 7 hits, 8 K’s no BB’s. WP=Dickey LP=Blackburn
Game #2:	Camarillo 14-4 Should be mercy rule in MWBL. Manhattan pitchers give up 18 hits and 4 BB’s Jones and Keppinger each get 3 RBI’s. WP=Saunders LP=Porcello
Game #3:	Camarillo 7-4 Lohse uncharacteristically gave up 4 runs in the first, but then Camarillo came back and Manhattan could not score again. WP=Lohse LP=Worley SV=Casilla
Game #4:	Camarillo 10-9 Manhattan leading until Brown smashes a pinch-hit 3 run HR in the 9th WP=Mujica LP=Ramirez SV=Lyon
Game #5:	Manhattan 2-1 CG by Tom Layne in his season debut as starter– 12 K’s. Manhattan’s only 2 runs score on 2 solo HR’s by Hill and Ishikawa WP=Layne LP=J. Smith
Game #6:	Camarillo 5-3 Dickey has 12 K’s in 8 innings. Snyder and Moss homers account for 4 of Camarillo’s 5 runs WP=Dickey LP=Blackburn SV=Casilla
Series Summary *	Manhattan avoids sweep

Series Summary *	Roseville and Columbus split the series. Roseville is starting to fade.

· New York Outlaws @ Tempe Tempers
Series Preview	The Eastern Division leading New York Outlaws face off against the Central Division leading Tempe Tempers
Game #1:	Iwakuma took a no hitter into the 8th and finished with a one hit complete game shoutout. Morales homered for Tempe. Tempe 3-0
Game #2:	A two run home-run by Granderson in the 2nd and little help from the pen was all Pettitte needed to record his 220th win in MWBL. Tempe 5-1.
Game #3:	Wandy was Waaaanderful throwing a complete game shutout. Beachy had a one hit shout going until the 7th when Lahair hit a solo shot. Napoli added a solo in the 9th. New York 2-0
Game #4:	Score was tired early 2-2 after the sluggers for both teams (Beltre and Napoli) hit two run jacks. Both teams scored one run in the 5th and the score remained tied until the 7th when an Ike Davis error allowed the eventually winning run to the score. New York 4-3.
Game #5:	Mr. Perfect is no longer perfect. Jim Johnson entered the 9th with a 1-0 lead thanks to a Granderson solo hr. He had .48 era and record of 5-0 with a league leading 32 saves. Utley led off with a solo shot to tie the game and three more singles gave New York the 2-1 lead in the 9th. Jansen closed it out in the bottom of the inning and New York won their 3rd in a row. New York 2-1.
Game #6:	Iwakuma wasn’t as dominating as the first series, but he gave the Tempers seven solid innings. Beltre launched a three run homerun and Ruiz hit a solo hr and singled in another run. Kratz homered for the outlaws. Johnson was asked to pitch 1.2 innings for the save and he rebounded to pickup his 33rd save. Tempe 5-4
Series Summary *	The teams split a very tight series that could have easily left the home team with a losing record. Only time will tell if these two will meet in the first round of the playoffs. Iwakuma was the pitcher of the series going 2-0 with only 5 hits in 16 innings.
