53 FREE AGENTS FILE AFTER 2004 WORLD SERIES
For Immediate Release
October 21, 2004
What the Mid-West Baseball League can’t predict is the impact of franchise shifts and new owners, whether new ownership in Garden City will choose wisely with all their draft picks to replenish the roster or if they’ll even have the picks come Draft Day. Or whether the Northridge Quakes can come back into the league with vengeance, and trounce the World Series Champions and the “Evil Empire” Tempe Tempers. All these questions and much more will get underway in the next few weeks.
What we do know is that the price for this years free agents, and minor leaguer free agents isn’t going to approach being a very high round draft pick on draft day 2005. We know that only two teams to ever hold the first round pick in the draft have won a World Series, that being the Kentucky Head Hunters and the Severn Express. Will this years pick on draft day come from a current teams roster as a free agent? Odds are against it. We also know that this winter’s Draft day for 2005 has now been set for Saturday February 12th, 2005. This will be the 9th annual Mid-West Baseball Leagues Draft Day.
But while the free agent market is now set, it is clear that some of the upcoming free agents do not have the chance of being drafted in the first round, like in 2004 when Mike Hampton was the 6th overall pick in 2004.
This years crop of free agents are listed below, followed by the crop pf minor leaguer free agents. All players are eligible to be drafted at any point in the 2005 Draft. All players have been granted free agency by the MWBL Commissioners Office.
