DALLAS — The Dallas Cougars struck early and never looked back, using a four-run first inning to power past the Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas, 6–3, in the opener of a six-game set.

After Kris Bubic worked around a leadoff single in the top of the first, Dallas wasted no time taking control. Jarren Duran ignited the rally with a walk and stolen base before Miguel Rojas delivered an RBI double to open the scoring. One batter later, Victor Caratini broke the game open, launching a three-run homer to left-center to give the Cougars a commanding 4–0 lead.

Bubic (2–0) made that cushion stand. The left-hander was sharp through six innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four. He consistently worked out of trouble, including a key escape in the third when he stranded two runners.

Dallas added insurance in the fifth. Josh Jung and Caratini set the table with back-to-back hits, and Nick Sogard followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 6–0.

The Fighting Chihuahuas rallied late. Alec Burleson plated a run with a sixth-inning single, and Willson Contreras cut the deficit in the seventh with a two-run homer. Dallas’ bullpen then settled in, as Adrian Morejon handed the ball to closer Daniel Palencia for his 13th save.

Caratini led the offense with a homer, two hits, and three RBIs, while Rojas added two doubles and an RBI. Jung also chipped in with a pair of doubles as Dallas piled up 10 hits.

Andrew Abbott (3–5) took the loss for Southwest Detroit, surrendering six runs on 10 hits over five innings.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 28–25 and grabbed a 1–0 edge in the series.

DALLAS — The Dallas Cougars used a pivotal sixth-inning surge to edge the Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas, 3–2, in a tightly contested matchup, taking a 2–0 lead in the six-game series.

Southwest Detroit struck early against Lucas Giolito, capitalizing on first-inning traffic. Harrison Bader drew a leadoff walk and later scored on Brandon Lowe’s bloop double. A groundout by Alec Burleson plated a second run, giving the visitors a quick 2–0 advantage.

That margin held for several innings as Rangers Suárez and Giolito settled in. Suárez was dominant early, striking out the side in the first and keeping Dallas off balance through five innings, finishing with seven strikeouts. Giolito, meanwhile, recovered from the shaky opening frame to deliver seven strong innings, allowing just two runs while scattering six hits.

The game turned in the bottom of the sixth. Josh Jung and Andrés Giménez opened the inning with back-to-back singles, setting the stage for Jarren Duran. The Cougars’ center fielder delivered the decisive blow, launching a three-run homer to right field to flip the score and give Dallas a 3–2 lead.

Southwest Detroit threatened late but couldn’t capitalize. In the eighth, the Chihuahuas put runners on second and third with two outs, but Brock Stewart induced a strikeout to escape the jam. In the ninth, Harrison Bader doubled with two outs to put the tying run in scoring position, but Daniel Palencia closed the door by catching Jacob Wilson looking to end the game.

Giolito (4–4) earned the win, Suárez (3–5) took the loss, and Palencia recorded his 14th save. Despite outhitting Dallas 9–6, the Fighting Chihuahuas stranded nine runners and dropped their third straight game.

Dallas improved to 29–25 with the victory, continuing to build momentum at home.

DALLAS — In a marathon battle that stretched into the 14th inning, the Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas outlasted the hometown Dallas Cougars 10-9 on Saturday, snapping a three-game losing streak in the third contest of their six-game series.

The Chihuahuas jumped on Cougars starter Griffin Jax early, exploding for five runs in the first inning. Jacob Wilson doubled, Brandon Lowe delivered an RBI single, Wyatt Langford walked in a run, and Christian Walker capped the outburst with a bases-loaded, three-run triple. Walker finished with a monstrous day: a triple, a three-run homer in the seventh, and six RBIs total.

Dallas chipped away throughout. Nick Kurtz homered in the third, and the Cougars added runs in the first, third, and fifth innings to pull within one and eventually tie the game at 5-5 and later 8-8. Miles Mastrobuoni had a career day with four hits, while the Cougars pounded out 19 hits overall.

The seesaw affair featured multiple lead changes. Walker’s two-out, three-run homer in the seventh gave Southwest Detroit an 8-6 edge, but Dallas responded with two in the bottom half to knot it at 8-8. Wyatt Langford’s solo shot in the ninth put the Chihuahuas back ahead 9-8, only for Victor Caratini to tie it immediately with a solo homer in the bottom of the frame.

Both bullpens traded zeros through extra innings until the 14th. In the top half, the Chihuahuas loaded the bases with two singles and a walk before Willson Contreras delivered a go-ahead RBI single, making it 10-9. Dallas put the tying run on third in the bottom of the inning but could not cash it in against Hunter Harvey, who earned his first save.

The victory improves the Fighting Chihuahuas to 29-27, moving them within five games of the division lead. The Cougars fall to 29-26.

DALLAS — A game that began with promise for Southwest Detroit quickly turned into a rout, as the Cougars unleashed a relentless offensive barrage to defeat the Fighting Chihuahuas, 13–4, in Game 4 of their six-game series.

The Chihuahuas struck first in the opening inning when Harrison Bader launched a solo home run to center, giving the visitors a brief 1–0 lead. But that advantage evaporated almost immediately.

Dallas responded with a stunning eight-run bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on shaky pitching from Corbin Burnes and a mix of timely hitting and patient at-bats. Nick Kurtz’s two-run single put the Cougars ahead, and a string of hits from Kyle Manzardo, Alek Thomas, Jarren Duran, and Brooks Lee kept the rally alive. Burnes was chased after just two-thirds of an inning, surrendering six runs, while reliever Mason Barnett fared little better as the inning spiraled. From there, the Cougars never looked back.

Emerson Hancock, continuing his strong stretch, settled in after the early homer and delivered a steady outing, limiting the Chihuahuas’ offense and earning his third win of the season. Southwest Detroit threatened at times but failed to string together sustained rallies, with their next runs not coming until late innings.

Dallas added insurance throughout the game, highlighted by Manzardo’s two-run home run in the fourth and continued production from the lineup, which totaled 18 hits. Thomas and Kurtz each contributed multiple hits, while Duran and Lee played key roles in the early offensive explosion.

The Chihuahuas showed brief life in the seventh and eighth innings, pushing across three runs combined, including RBI hits from Ryan McMahon and Christian Walker. However, the deficit proved far too large to overcome.

By the final out, the Cougars had secured a decisive 13–4 victory, improving their record to 30–26 and taking a 3–1 edge in the series. The loss dropped Southwest Detroit to 29–28 and snapped Burnes’ six-game winning streak.

DALLAS — A back-and-forth battle turned into a late-inning collapse Saturday as the Dallas Cougars fell 6–5 in 11 innings to the Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas.

Southwest Detroit struck first in the second inning when Christian Walker launched a two-run homer, giving the visitors an early 2–0 edge. Dallas answered in the bottom half with a solo shot from Kyle Manzardo, cutting the deficit to one.

The Cougars seized momentum in the fifth. After a hit-by-pitch and a walk set the table, Nick Kurtz delivered the game’s biggest swing to that point—a three-run homer that put Dallas ahead 4–2. Alek Thomas added insurance in the seventh with a solo blast, extending the lead to 5–2.

Dallas starter Tristan Beck settled in after the early homer, piling up eight strikeouts over 6⅓ innings while holding the Chihuahuas to two runs. But the bullpen could not lock it down.

In the eighth, Alec Burleson reignited Southwest Detroit with a two-run homer to trim the lead to 5–4. The Cougars carried that slim margin into the ninth, but William Contreras crushed a game-tying solo shot off closer Daniel Palencia, silencing the home crowd and forcing extra innings.

After both teams came up empty in the 10th, the Chihuahuas broke through in the 11th. Zach McKinstry lined an RBI double to right, scoring the go-ahead run and putting Southwest Detroit on top for good.
Dallas threatened little in the bottom of the inning, going down in order against reliever Randy Rodriguez, who secured the save.

The Cougars managed just four hits in the loss, wasting a strong mid-game surge. Southwest Detroit finished with 10 hits and improved to 30–28, while Dallas slipped to 30–27.

DALLAS — A back-and-forth contest turned heartbreaking for the Dallas Cougars on Saturday night, as the Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas rallied late to secure a dramatic 7–6 victory.

Dallas struck first in the second inning when Victor Caratini delivered an RBI single, scoring Josh Jung for a 1–0 lead. The advantage held until the fifth, when Zach McKinstry launched a solo home run to even the score.

The Cougars responded emphatically in the sixth. Sal Frelick’s RBI double broke the tie, and Ramon Laureano followed with a two-run homer to give Dallas a 4–1 cushion. Laureano wasn’t finished, adding a second home run in the eighth, while Kyle Manzardo also went deep to extend the lead to 6–4.

But the Fighting Chihuahuas refused to fade. After trimming the deficit to 4–2 in the seventh, Southwest Detroit mounted a pivotal rally in the eighth, tying the game at 4–4 on a combination of timely hitting and a run-scoring double play.

The decisive blow came in the ninth. Trailing 6–4, McKinstry homered again to spark the comeback. Later in the inning, with two runners on, Wyatt Langford delivered a clutch two-run triple, flipping the score to 7–6 and silencing the Dallas crowd.

The Cougars went quietly in the bottom half, unable to mount a final rally against reliever Drew Pomeranz, who earned the win. Victor Vodnik took the loss after surrendering the late lead.

Despite 10 hits, the Cougars were undone by missed opportunities and a late bullpen collapse. The loss evens the six-game series at three wins apiece and drops Dallas to 30–28 on the season, while Southwest Detroit improves to 31–28.

Brendan Donovan needs a trip to the 10 day IL.

It’s Gil gone wild in the first inning, as two walks sets up Byron Buxton’s 3-run HR to give Fremont the early lead. A third walk in the inning would not lead to a run. Isiah Kiner-Falefa gets a rare 2-run HR in the third to pull the Bottle Rockets to within one. Tijuana uses the long ball again in the fourth, with Isaac Paredes and Junior Caminero going back-to-back to give Tijuana the 4-3 lead.

The Tijuana pitching implodes in the bottom of the frame. Gil walks three to load the bases, and a groundout brings in the tying run. Another walk re-loads the bases, and Gil is sent to an early shower. Michael Kelly does his best Gil impression and walks two to score two, then Buxton bloops in a single for a third run. It nearly becomes a total disaster as Elly de la Cruz sends one deep that goes off of Corbin Carroll’s glove, but it falls right to Pete Crow-Armstrong for the third out. Fremont leads 7-4.

An infield single in the seventh inning puts Buxton on, and he steals second. He then tries for third on the next pitch, and a wild throw from Agustin Ramirez brings him in. Elly de la Cruz follows up with a solo HR and Fremont takes the 9-4 lead. The Cannons bring on Joey Cantillo in the eighth for a little action, but he gives up solo homers to PCA and Ian Happ back-to-back to cut the lead to 9-6 Fremont.

The Cannons bring on Robert Suarez for the 3-run save, but KeBryan Hayes singles and Trea Turner doubles to put two on with no outs. Corbin Carroll walks to load the bases. An Isaac Paredes grounder turns into a double play, but a run scores and the tying run comes to the plate. Junior Caminero could tie it with one swing, but instead grounds out and Fremont wins 9-7.

The Cannons win despite being out-hit 12-4; the Bottle Rockets walked 11 in the game. Tijuana launched 5 homers in the game. Buxton went 3-5 with 4 RBI.

Tijuana gets two on in the first and the second but leaves scoreless. Fremont gets on the board in the bottom of the second with a Teoscar Hernandez double and Luis Urias RBI single. A HBP ends the day for Austin Hedges, though.

Alcantara is fighting to keep the Bottle Rockets at bay, but a leadoff walk in the fourth is followed by an Austin Wells 2-run HR. A KeBryan Hayes single and Corbin Carroll double adds another, and a Texas Leaguer from Isaac Paredes makes it 4-1 Tijuana.

The Bottle Rockets threaten again in the sixth with runners on second and third with one out, but a flyout to Mike Yastrzemski is followed by a throw-out of Hayes at home to end the inning for TIJ. Isaac Paredes does add an insurance run with a solo HR on the seventh to put the Bottle Rockets up 5-1.

The Cannons mount a threat in the bottom of the inning, as a Carlos Correa single is followed by two walks to load the bases with no outs. A timely double play gets two outs but a run scores to make it 5-2. A walk then puts runners on 1st and 3rd, but Brendan Little gets Daylen Lile swinging.

Down to their last out in the ninth, the Cannons get it going with a walk, and error, and another walk to load the bases. Elly de la Cruz comes to the plate as the winning run but flies out to left-center to leave it as a 5-2 Tijuana win.

In the end, a similar game to game 1 with a different outcome. TIJ out-hit FRE 11-6, but 7 walks and an error kept the Cannons within reach. Tijuana again had the power edge with two homers to zero for Fremont.

An error from Nolan Gorman puts leadoff hitter Corbin Carroll on, and a single and walk loads the bases in the first. A wild pitch from Senga then gives the Bottle Rockets the early 1-0 lead. Two fly-outs keeps it from getting worse. Both pitchers are solid from there.

Carroll gets it going again in the sixth with a walk and a steal, then a Pete Crow-Armstrong double doubles the lead to 2-0. Fremont answers in the bottom of the inning, with an Ohtani walk and Isiah Kiner-Falefa error putting runners on first and third. A passed ball from Austin Wells brings Ohtani home to make it 2-1, but the Cannons are unable to bring home Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from second.

Another Tijuana error, this by PCA, lets Guerrero Jr. advance to second in the eighth inning. Byron Buxton doubles home pinch-runner Kevin Pillar to tie the game at 2-2. Yoan Moncada flies out to leave him stranded.

The Bottle Rockets go 1-2-3 in the ninth, then a Junior Caminero two-base error puts Austin Hays at second. After an intentional walk to Teoscar Hernandez, Erik Miller is able to strike out the next two batters to send it to extra innings.

Austin Wells leads off the tenth with a walk, then pinch-runner Cedric Mullins steals second. Mullins advances to third on a fly out to right. Edwin Uceta walks Trea Turner to put runners at the corners, then Turner breaks for second on a steal attempt. The throw goes to second, but Mullins bolts for home. The throw is cut to the plate, and Mullins slides in safely for the go-ahead run. Uceta gets the final out, but the damage has been done.

Bo Naylor gets a two-out walk in the bottom of the tenth to give Fremont a chance, but Moncada strikes out against Caleb Thielbar to end the game in a 3-2 Tijuana victory in ten. The Austin Hedges injury definitely showed up in this one, with Tijuana racking up 5 SBs, many in key spots. Three errors from the Bottle Rockets definitely helped the Cannons in this one, as all their runs were unearned. The teams combined for just seven hits.

Tijuana wastes no time getting the scoring started with a Junior Caminero 2-run HR in the first. Elly de la Cruz makes things happen in the third with a single and two stolen bases, and Austin Hays brings him home with a sac fly to cut Tijuana’s lead to 2-1.

ELDC looks to tie it in the fourth, but Ian Happ robs him of the homer. Corbin Carroll is not robbed in the fifth, with his solo HR increasing the Tijuana lead to 3-1. Hays leads off the bottom of the fifth with a double, and advances to third on a passed ball. Nolan Gorman flies out to Corbin Carroll, then Carroll cuts down Hays at the plate.

In the sixth, Pete Crow-Armstrong walks and steals second. A single moves him to third and a groundout scores him to make it 4-1 in favor of the Bottle Rockets. Fremont gets two on in the bottom of the sixth but Yoan Moncada strikes out. A double by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also amounts to nothing. The Cannons go 1-2-3 in the ninth and Tijuana takes game 4 by a score of 4-1.

Shohei Ohtani is having another disappointing home series, going 0-16, and the Cannons as a whole have 2 HRs over 4 games.

Shohei Ohtani’s third inning triple is his first hit of the series, and the first series threat to score in the game, but he’s left stranded. A double from Junior Caminero sets up a two-run HR from Ian Happ in the fifth to give Tijuana the lead. Strider is cruising but finally gives up key runs in the bottom of the inning. Doubles from Mike Yastrzemski, Luis Urias, and Shohei Ohtani plate two for Fremont to tie it.

The Bottle Rockets come right back in the sixth, with an infield single setting up Corbin Carroll’s 2-run shot. Junior Caminero continues the slug parade with a solo homer and it is 5-2 Tijuana. Elly de la Cruz scratches one back in the bottom of the frame with a solo HR to cut Tijuana’s lead to 5-3.

Fremont ties it up in the seventh. PH Yoan Moncada walks, Shohei Ohtani singles, and Daylen Lile brings them home with a clutch 2-out triple. An intentional BB to Byron Buxton is followed by a steal to put runners on 2nd and 3rd, but ELDC pops out to keep it tied at 5-5.

In the eighth, PH Teoscar Hernandez walks and advances to second on a groundout. Austin Hays triples him home to give the Cannons the lead 6-5. Ohtani is walked intentionally and steals second, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. files out to end the threat.

Junior Caminero leads off the top of the ninth with a double and is replaced with Cedric Mullins. After getting the next two outs, Robert Suarez gives up a Texas Leaguer to Ian Happ and the Bottle Rockets have tied it 6-6. The Cannons go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth to take it to extra innings.

KeBryan Hayes leads off the tenth with an infield single, but is thrown out attempting to steal 2nd, and Garrett Whitlock gets the next two outs. Teoscar Hernandez leads off the bottom of the tenth with a single, then steals 2nd. After a Carlos Correa IBB, Kevin Pillar attempts to bunt the runners over but Tijuana nails the lead runner. Yoan Moncada walks, loading the bases for Ohtani. Ohtani drills it past 3rd for the walkoff and the Cannons take it 7-6 in ten.

Ohtani must have heard the criticism, going 4-5 with a triple, double, walkoff single, and a steal. Guerrero Jr. was the better target for criticism, going 0-4 with runners in scoring position. The Cannons left 11 on base to the Bottle Rockets’ 2. Fremont was again outhomered but hit three triples in the game. Carroll and Caminero both homer in consecutive games.

A triple from Corbin Carroll in the first inning puts pressure on Rodon right away, but a punchout of Isaac Paredes gets him pumped and the Bottle Rockets come away with nothing. A single from Yoan Moncada in the second is followed by an Elly de la Cruz triple, putting the Cannons up 1-0. Mike Yastrzemski attempts the suicide squeeze but misses the bunt and ELDC is out at home.

A surprise homer from Austin Hedges in the third puts the Cannons up 2-0. In the same inning, Shohei Ohtani walks, steals second, advances to third, then comes home on a sac fly from Daylen Lile. In the fourth, ELDC walks, then steals second and third. No suicide squeeze this time; instead, Yastrzemski takes a HBP. Luis Urias singles home ELDC for one. Austin Hedges bunts the runners over to second and third, and Ohtani singles them both in to make it 6-0. Ohtani’s caught stealing ends the inning as Agustin Ramirez guns him down.
Fremont gets two on with no outs in the fifth, but Brendan Little gets three straight Ks.

You can never count out the Bottle Rockets offense, and they get going in the top of the sixth. Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubles, then advances to third. He heads home on a grounder to first, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. nips him at the plate. It seems like Rodon should be able to keep the shutout going, but a two-out double from Carroll plates the runner from first, and Issac Paredes follows with a 2-run HR as the lead is cut to 6-3.

Fremont gets one back in the bottom of the inning with a Luis Urias double, advancement to third, and RBI single from Guerrero Jr. Tijuana isn’t done yet, as an Ian Happ solo HR cuts it to 7-4 in the seventh. Jahmai Jones singles but is nailed by Lile trying for a double. Byron Buxton singles in the bottom of the inning, steals second, then moves to third then home on two consecutive grounders to up Fremont’s lead to 8-4. Junior Caminero keeps the Tijuana homer train going with a solo shot in the ninth, but otherwise it is quiet the rest of the way as Fremont wins the finale 8-4.
