Joey Loperfido walks, steals 2nd, then comes home on a Masyn Winn double (Winn in thrown out try for a triple). It looks like Fremont might be held in check by the Grade 3, but a Joey Bart 2-run HR in the seventh puts the Cannons up 2-1. RBI singles from Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez in the bottom of the inning tie it at 2 each. In the third, a bases-loaded walk brings one home for Fremont. A sac fly turns into a double play as Aaron Judge nails Carlos Correa at the plate. Judge gets another assist in the fourth as the 9-2-6 double play stops a run. Correa still manages to single in a run to make it 4-2 Fremont. Sandoval loads the bases but gets the final out. A run-scoring groundout in the sixth bumps it to 5-2, though another Fremont run is snuffed out at the plate on a grounder to Masyn Winn. An error sets up Victor Scott II ‘s RBI single in the seventh to get one back for the Werewolves, but Jose Iglesias responds with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning. Going to the ninth at 6-3, things get dicey for Fremont. A walk to Judge loads the bases. Alejandro Kirk singles one home but they hold the runner at third. |
|---|---|
| Preview: | The Mobsters come in as heavy favorites, but the home team could make things interesting if their bats get hot. Expect competitive games, but the edge goes to Chicago. |
| Game #1: | The Corktown Cycle edged out the Chicago Mobsters in a tense 4-3 victory. The game began with drama as Corktown starter Tanner Bibee exited with an injury before facing a batter, forcing Mike Soroka into early action. Corktown jumped ahead 2-0 in the first, but Chicago quickly responded, tying the game in the third. The Mobsters took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on Yordan Alvarez’s RBI double, but Ben Rice answered with a solo homer for Corktown, and Jazz Chisholm’s RBI double put the Cycle back on top 4-3. Both bullpens held firm, with Corktown’s Brenan Hanifee escaping a ninth-inning jam after Dylan Moore’s leadoff triple. Hanifee retired the next three batters to secure the win. Corktown’s aggressive baserunning (four steals) and timely hitting proved decisive, while Chicago’s late rally fell just short.
Final Score: Corktown 4 – Chicago 3 Win: Bryce Jarvis 2-1 (4.34) |
| Game #2: | The Chicago Mobsters jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Corktown Cycle 8-4. Chicago struck for three runs in the second inning, capitalizing on a hit batter, a walk, and an injury to Yordan Alvarez, who was forced out after being hit by a pitch. The Mobsters added two more in the fourth, aided by Corktown’s defensive miscues, and tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth to build an 8-0 advantage. Bowden Francis was dominant on the mound for Chicago, striking out 11 over 6.1 innings and allowing just one run. Corktown rallied for three runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run single from Kelenic, but the Mobsters’ bullpen held firm. Despite some late pressure, Chicago closed it out with solid relief work from Williams and Jax. Corktown’s starter Bryan Bello struggled, taking the loss.
Final Score: Chicago 8 – Corktown 4 Win: Bowden Francis 11-2 (2.39) |
| Game #3: | The Corktown Cycle jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Chicago Mobsters 6-2. Luisangel Acuña set the tone in the first inning with a two-run homer, and Nathaniel Lowe added a solo shot in the second to make it 3-0. Chicago got on the board in the third with a sacrifice fly from Jackson Chourio, but Corktown responded with a big fifth inning, capitalizing on a bases-loaded walk and a costly error by Willy Adames to plate three more runs. Chicago managed to scratch across another run in the sixth, but Corktown’s pitching staff, led by Luis Ortiz, kept them in check the rest of the way. Ortiz went 5.2 innings, allowing just two runs and earning his ninth win of the season. Hunter Brown took the loss for Chicago, surrendering six runs (four earned) over 5.2 innings.
Final Score: Corktown 6 – Chicago 2 Win: Luis Ortiz 9-6 (2.28) |
| Game #4: | The Chicago Mobsters dominated the Corktown Cycle with a convincing 12-4 victory. Chicago jumped ahead early, scoring four runs in the second inning, highlighted by Dylan Moore’s two-run homer and a steady stream of hits off struggling starter Jose Berrios. The Mobsters kept the pressure on, adding runs in the third and fourth, while Logan Gilbert cruised through six strong innings, allowing just one run and three hits. Corktown’s offense was mostly quiet until the seventh, when Jazz Chisholm’s two-run homer briefly narrowed the gap, but Chicago responded with a four-run eighth to put the game out of reach. Luis Arraez led the Mobsters with three hits and multiple RBIs, while Garver added a solo homer. Chicago’s bullpen held firm, and the Mobsters’ offense racked up 15 hits in total. With this win, Chicago continues their strong season, while Corktown’s struggles persist.
Final Score: Chicago 12 – Corktown 4 Win: Logan Gilbert 17-5 (2.21) |
| Game #5: | The Chicago Mobsters jumped out to a commanding lead in the top of the first, with Yandy DÃaz launching a two-run homer and Alex Bregman following up with a two-run shot of his own, staking Chicago to a quick 4-0 advantage over Corktown. The Mobsters added to their tally in the fourth when Julio RodrÃguez blasted a two-run homer, pushing the lead to 6-0. Chicago’s offense was relentless early, but the real story was Bryce Miller’s dominance on the mound. Miller carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, ultimately allowing just one hit and shutting out Corktown with a masterful performance. Corktown’s bats were stifled all night, managing only a single infield hit and never threatening to score. Colin Rea struggled for Corktown, surrendering six runs in four innings. Chicago’s early fireworks and Miller’s brilliance sealed a decisive victory.
Final Score: Chicago 6 – Corktown 0 Win: Bryce Miller 11-5 (2.01) |
| Game #6: | The Chicago Mobsters rallied late to defeat the Corktown Cycle 3-1 in a tightly contested matchup. Corktown struck first with a solo home run by J.J. Bleday in the bottom of the first, and both starters—Seth Lugo for Corktown and Brandon Pfaadt for Chicago—kept the offenses in check through the middle innings. Chicago tied the game in the sixth when Julio Rodriguez, pinch-running, scored on a double by Luis Arraez. The Mobsters broke the tie in the ninth: Jackson Chourio’s aggressive baserunning and a clutch RBI single by Dylan Moore put Chicago ahead, and Rodriguez added insurance with an RBI double. Corktown threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but the Mobsters’ bullpen—Hunter Gaddis, Devin Williams, and Aroldis Chapman—shut the door, stranding runners in scoring position and sealing the win.
Final Score: Chicago 3 – Corktown 1 Win: Hunter Gaddis 3-2 (1.51) |
| Summary7 | The much-anticipated series between the Chicago Mobsters and Corktown Cycle lived up to its billing, delivering a blend of drama, dominant pitching, and explosive offense across six fiercely contested games. Entering as heavy favorites, the Mobsters ultimately proved their mettle, but Corktown’s resilience ensured the series was anything but a walkover.
Corktown set the tone early, eking out a tense 4-3 win in the opener despite losing starter Tanner Bibee to injury before he threw a pitch. Aggressive baserunning and clutch hits, including a solo homer from Ben Rice and a key double by Jazz Chisholm, helped the Cycle edge past Chicago’s late rally. Chicago responded emphatically, riding Bowden Francis’s 11-strikeout performance to an 8-4 victory in Game 2, then unleashing a 12-4 offensive onslaught in Game 4, powered by Dylan Moore’s homer and a 15-hit barrage. The Mobsters’ bats stayed hot, with Yandy DÃaz, Alex Bregman, and Julio RodrÃguez all going deep in a 6-0 shutout in Game 5, highlighted by Bryce Miller’s near no-hitter—he carried it into the eighth, allowing just one infield single. Corktown refused to fold, taking Game 3 behind early home runs from Luisangel Acuña and Nathaniel Lowe, and a strong outing from Luis Ortiz. But Chicago’s depth and late-game execution shone in the finale: after falling behind early, the Mobsters rallied in the ninth with aggressive baserunning and clutch hits from Dylan Moore and Julio RodrÃguez to secure a 3-1 win. Key highlights included Corktown’s four stolen bases in the opener, Chicago’s relentless early-inning power, and Miller’s dominant mound performance. While Corktown’s bats showed flashes, Chicago’s pitching and timely hitting ultimately tipped the balance, reaffirming their status as the team to beat. The Cycle made things interesting, but the Mobsters’ edge in depth and execution carried the day. |

| Game #1: | Well – Tobias Myers tosses a 3 hit CB shutout to open the series and the games only run came in the 1st on a Dalton Varsho rbi single (2 hits in the game). Simeon Woodsrichardson was tough as well, 6.1 innings, 5 hits, 1 run and the bullpen was perfect as well, but COLUMBUS takes the opener 1-0! |
| Game #2: | Then the inevitable started happening – Sacramento scores 2 in the first ad Kris Carpenter smacks a 2 run homer (8). Later he drives in 2 more on a double for a 4 rbi day and SACRAMENTO takes game 2, 5-2. Tyler Glasnow goes to 13-2 on a 4 hitter (6.1 IP) |
| Game #3: | Another 2 run Kris Carpenter 1st inning homer (9) gets this one going – and he drives in 3 on the day. And for the 2nd day in a row, Brent Rooker homers (40) and drives in 2. Meanwhile Chris Sale goes 7 innings, 11 ks, 4 hits and NO runs and the CAPITALS run away with this one 7-0! |
| Game #4: | Sacramento makes it 3 in a row when the score 3 in the 2nd and another in the 4th. Columbus gets a 2 run Dalton Varsho homer (9) in the 4th to make it 4-2, but Shota Imanga (7.2 ip WP 16-3) and the bullpen keep Columbus scoreless the rest of the way as the CAPITALS win it 4-2! |
| Game #5: | But the streak ended there – but it took a while for it to happen. Sacramento got up 3-0 after 3, but Columbus rallyed for 3 in the 5th to tie it up. Then both teams scored 2 in the 8th and the game went into extra innings. And a Daulton Varsho two out walk-off single in the 11th wins it 6-5 for COLUMBUS setting the stage a game 6 chance to even things up. |
| Game #6: | And – as promised it was another 1-0 game with Tobias Myers on the mound. He and Simeon WoodsRichardson again squared off – this time WR gives up nothing in 7.2 innings (2 hits). But in the 5th – Myers was having a bit of control issues and a HBP a single (only 3 hits) and 2 walks – tallied a run for Sacramento. Cowser got the rbi walk. Myers went 8, 3 hits, 7 ks, but that that 1 run did him in this time as SACRAMENTO won the finale 1-0! |
| Summary: | Sacramento is the team to beat – they can be beat, but only if all cylinders are functioning for your team and your pitching is in overdrive. Capitals take a thrilling series 4 games to 2. They go home to host Arboga while Columbus goes on the road to Selkirk! |
