Hollywood Werewolves @ Chicago Mobsters |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | The Chicago Mobsters (33-18), sitting comfortably atop the American League Central, are set to host the Hollywood Werewolves (22-30), who are struggling in the AL West. This series presents a classic clash of a dominant team against an underdog looking to claw its way back into contention.
For Hollywood, Aaron Judge has been a one-man wrecking crew. The slugger is putting up MVP-caliber numbers, carrying the Werewolves’ offense with his towering home runs and clutch hitting. However, Judge’s heroics have been overshadowed by the team’s glaring weakness: their starting rotation. Hollywood’s starters have been among the league’s worst, struggling to keep games competitive and putting immense pressure on their bullpen and offense. On the other side, Chicago is rolling and will have a significant advantage in this series, especially with Alek Manoah scheduled to make two starts. Manoah has been sidelined with a sore elbow to start the season. Despite this, he is set to make two starts in the upcoming series. However, his appearances in the 2025 MWBL Season will be limited, as he is expected to pitch in only a handful of games. With a strong lineup and a reliable pitching staff, Chicago looks poised to extend their lead in the division. Odds on the Series: The Mobsters’ balanced attack and pitching depth make them heavy favorites, but if Aaron Judge can stay hot and the Werewolves’ starters can somehow step up, Hollywood might have a chance to steal a game or two. |
| Game #1: | The Hollywood Werewolves dominated the Chicago Mobsters in a high-scoring affair, securing a 12-6 victory. The game was highlighted by Justyn-Henry Malloy’s electrifying grand slam in the first inning, which set the tone early and gave the Werewolves a commanding 5-0 lead. Hollywood continued to pile on runs, with home runs from G. Pauley, P. Goldschmidt, K. Marte, and A. Kirk, showcasing their offensive firepower.
Mason Black delivered a solid performance on the mound, going six innings and allowing three runs on 11 hits to earn the win. Alek Manoah struggled for Chicago, surrendering 10 runs (9 earned) over six innings, including four home runs, and took the loss. Despite a late push by the Mobsters, including home runs from J. Chourio, Y. Alvarez, and A. McCutchen, the Werewolves’ early lead proved insurmountable. Final Score: Hollywood 12 – Chicago 6 Win: Mason Black 4-5 (5.80) |
| Game #2: | The Hollywood Werewolves secured a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Mobsters in a game marked by defensive miscues and key moments. Chicago’s sloppy defense, committing five errors, proved costly. Hollywood’s Matt Chapman delivered the decisive blow with a two-run homer in the fifth inning, giving the Werewolves a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Victor Scott, subbing for the injured Will Brennan (out for 14 days), showcased his speed with a stolen base and a run scored.
Seth Johnson pitched 7.1 strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six. However, his outing ended abruptly after being ejected in the eighth inning following a hit-by-pitch incident. Angel Chivilli stepped in to close the game, earning his second save of the season. Final Score: Hollywood 4 – Chicago 2 Win: Seth Johnson 3-2 (8.65) |
| Game #3: | The Chicago Mobsters secured a 3-1 victory over the Hollywood Werewolves in a tightly contested game. Seth Lugo delivered a stellar performance, striking out 10 batters over seven innings while allowing just one earned run. Kyle Hendricks pitched well for Hollywood but took the loss, surrendering three runs across seven and a third innings.
The Mobsters broke the 1-1 tie in the seventh inning with clutch hits from Mitch Garver and Luis Arraez, followed by Alex Bregman’s RBI single to extend the lead. Aroldis Chapman closed the game with his fifth save of the season, maintaining his perfect ERA. A key moment came in the fourth inning when Julio Rodriguez made a spectacular running catch but collided with the wall, leaving the game with an injury. He is expected to miss five days. Final Score: Chicago 3 – Hollywood 1 Win: Seth Lugo 6-3 (2.13) |
| Game #4: | The Chicago Mobsters dominated the Hollywood Werewolves in a high-scoring affair, securing a decisive 13-5 victory. The game remained tight through six innings, with both teams trading leads. Hollywood’s Matt Chapman and Ketel Marte delivered key hits to give the Werewolves a brief 5-4 advantage in the 7th inning. However, Chicago’s offense erupted in the bottom of the 7th, highlighted by a three-run homer from Willy Adames and a clutch two-run double by Luis Arraez, pushing the Mobsters ahead 10-5.
The Mobsters added insurance runs in the 8th inning, including a two-run blast by Andrew McCutchen, sealing the game. Chicago’s Fernando Cruz pitched three scoreless innings in relief, striking out five to earn his first win of the season. Hollywood’s Luke Jackson took the loss after surrendering the go-ahead runs in the 7th. Final Score: Chicago 13 – Hollywood 5 Win: Fernando Cruz 1-0 (7.00) |
| Game #5: | The Chicago Mobsters dominated the Hollywood Werewolves in a high-scoring affair, securing a decisive 10-4 victory. The game started with Aaron Judge blasting a solo homer in the first inning to give the Werewolves an early lead. However, the Mobsters quickly responded with a three-run rally in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Yandy DÃaz’s clutch single.
Logan Gilbert (9-2) settled in after a shaky start, pitching six solid innings despite allowing 12 hits and two home runs. The Mobsters’ offense continued to pile on runs, with Alex Bregman delivering a two-run homer in the seventh and DÃaz adding a solo shot in the eighth. Hollywood’s Pablo Sandoval (1-3) struggled, giving up six runs and seven walks in just over five innings. Despite a strong showing from Judge (4 hits) and Alejandro Kirk (3 hits, including a homer), the Werewolves couldn’t overcome Chicago’s relentless offense. Final Score: Chicago 10 – Hollywood 4 Win: Logan Gilbert 9-2 (2.43) |
| Game #6: | The Chicago Mobsters edged out the Hollywood Werewolves in a thrilling 4-3 victory. Yordan Alvarez set the tone early with a two-run homer in the first inning, giving Chicago an early lead. Hollywood fought back in the fifth, with Spencer Horwitz’s solo homer and key hits from Paul Goldschmidt and Joey Loperfido putting them ahead 3-2. Chicago quickly responded in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game on Luis Arraez’s clutch double.
The decisive moment came in the seventh inning when Willy Adames stole second and scored on Riley Greene’s single, giving Chicago the lead. Despite injuries to Dylan Moore (6 days) and Brant Hurter (31 days), Chicago’s bullpen held strong. Ryan Yarbrough earned the win with solid relief work, and Aroldis Chapman secured his sixth save, striking out Victor Scott to end the game. Final Score: Chicago 4 – Hollywood 3 Win: Ryan Yarbrough 3-0 (1.00) |
| Game #7: | The Chicago Mobsters dominated the Hollywood Werewolves in a lopsided 19-3 victory. The Mobsters exploded early, scoring 16 runs in the first three innings, including an 8-run first inning capped by LaMonte Wade Jr.’s three-run homer. Alek Manoah delivered a strong performance on the mound, holding the Werewolves to just three runs over nine innings while striking out several batters.
The Mobsters’ offense was relentless, with standout contributions from Willi Adames, Riley Greene, and Mitch Garver, who each homered. Hollywood’s pitching struggled, with starter Seth Johnson giving up eight runs in just one inning, and the bullpen unable to stop the bleeding. Despite a late solo homer by Aaron Judge and a few scattered runs, the Werewolves couldn’t recover from the early deficit. Chicago’s commanding lead allowed them to cruise to an easy win. Final Score: Chicago 19 – Hollywood 3 Win: Alek Manoah 1-1 (7.20) |
| Summary: | The Chicago Mobsters (38-20) showcased their dominance in a six-game series against the Hollywood Werewolves (24-35), taking four out of six games and solidifying their position atop the AL Central. Despite Hollywood’s struggles, the series featured thrilling moments and standout performances.
Aaron Judge continued his MVP-caliber season, delivering clutch hits and towering home runs, but his efforts were overshadowed by Hollywood’s inconsistent pitching. The Werewolves’ rotation faltered, highlighted by Seth Johnson’s disastrous one-inning, eight-run outing in the series finale, which ended in a lopsided 19-3 Chicago victory. The Mobsters’ offense erupted early in that game, with LaMonte Wade Jr.’s three-run homer capping an eight-run first inning. Chicago’s balanced attack and pitching depth were on full display throughout the series. Alek Manoah, making his season debut, struggled in his first start but rebounded with a complete-game victory in the finale. Logan Gilbert and Seth Lugo also delivered strong performances, with Lugo striking out 10 in a 3-1 win. Aroldis Chapman remained a bullpen anchor, securing multiple saves and maintaining his perfect ERA. The Mobsters’ offense was relentless, led by Willy Adames, Luis Arraez, and Yordan Alvarez, who provided timely hits and power. Adames’ three-run homer in a pivotal 13-5 win and his game-winning run in a 4-3 nail-biter highlighted his impact. Meanwhile, Hollywood’s Matt Chapman and Ketel Marte contributed key hits in close contests, but the Werewolves’ bullpen couldn’t contain Chicago’s firepower. Defensive miscues also plagued Chicago, with five errors in one game leading to a 4-2 loss. Injuries to key players like Julio Rodriguez and Dylan Moore tested Chicago’s depth, but their resilience shone through. Ultimately, the series underscored Chicago’s dominance and Hollywood’s struggles, with the Mobsters extending their division lead while the Werewolves face an uphill battle in the AL West. |

Kerkering gets Javier Baez to fly out bringing up Giancarlo Stanton, and for the 7th time in the series, Stanton goes deep, this time tying the game at 6. Kerkering would get out of the inning. The hometown fans would go home happy, however, because Bryson Stott, leading off the home half of the ninth, homers off of Albert Alzolay to win it for the Comets.
FALCONS 6 / 10 / 1 |
| Summary: | Two pretty evenly matched teams split the series 3-3. Giancarlo Stanton had a HUGE series, going 11 for 23 with 8 runs scored, 13 RBIs, a double, and 7 homeruns. |

Alamo Defenders @ Columbus Explorers |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Alamo (29-24) 2nd in NL West come to Columbus to face the NL Central’s 3rd place Explorers (30-23). Alamo looks better on paper – Columbus is scrappy team who are relying heavily on defense and ragtag lineups! |
| Game #1: | Game goes 11 innings when Explorers bullpen ace Tim Herrin blows his 1st save by giving up a solo homer (9) to Tovar in the 9th! Tovar had previously doubled in 1 and scored on a 2 run Ward homer (7) in the 4th that game the Defenders a 3-0 lead. But Columbus came back with 2 in the 5th and single runs in the 6th and 7th to grab a 4-3 lead. Beck (2) and Sosa (3) each solo’d during that span. Bottom of the 11th Columbus plays billy ball – including a sacrifice – to get Varsho to 3b with 2 outs. Andujar then bloops one to LF that drops in and it’s all over! FINAL COL 5 ALA 4 (11 innings) ALA 4-6-1 LP Sands (1-2) BS Holton (4) COL 5-9-0 WP King (3-0) BS Herrin (1) |
| Game #2: | So if game 1 goes 11 – how about game 2? Sure, another 11 inning game. This one features a masterful pitching duel. 7.1 innings, 2 hits by Peterson for Columbus and a whopping 10 innings, 3 hits, 10 ks (no Ws) and no runs by Luis Castillo for Alamo. Baserunners and hits were in scarce commodity. So off to the 11th and Fraley leads off for Alamo with a single. That was the only hit given up by Honeywell in his 2.2 ip, but Columbus turns it over to Bernardino. Bailey in to PH for Biggio and Fraley steals 2nd! Columbus knows this play! Bailey bounces one back to Bernandino, high hop, out at 1st, Fraley to 3rd – 1 down. Devers up – infield in – the pitch and it’s on the corner, strike 3, 2 outs! Tovar ends the threat fouling out.
Columbus’s turn. Cole Sands into pitch for Alamo as Castillo’s magnificent day is over. Ezekial Duran leads off and flies out (at the wall). Donovan follows and he takes one to the wall for the 2nd out. Brings up Jordan Beck – he hits a slow one up the middle that Tovar throws in the dirt at 1st, even Rizzo couldn’t salvage it. Stubbs up, Beck on 1st, 2 outs. Beck steals! And then Stubbs singles to LF, it’s right to De La Cruz and Beck is never stopped – the throw, the slide, the tag, the ump signals —–safe!! |
| Game #3: | Well this one is not going to extra innings and while it was close for 6 innings – it was not close by the end. And once again an Alamo pitcher blanks Columbus for the 1st 9 innings of the game – however, this time it was good enough for the W!! Pablo Lopez blanks the Explorers on 2 hits and 2 HBP – lucky he didn’t get tossed because he had a gem. 6 Ks no walks. Fraley gets 3 hits, 2 runs, rbi – De La Cruz 3 hits and a run – Cronenworth smacks a game busting 3 run homer (7) in the 7th. With single runs in the 1st and 2nd for Alamo, it was over quickly! FINAL ALA 6 – COL 0 ALA 6-11-0 WP Lopez (7-3) COL 0- 2-1 LP Marsh (2-4) |
| Game #4: | Well after a day off, we return to 1 run games – and like the previous 2 1 run games, Columbus wins this one – but they almost gave it away. Stubbs leads off the bottom of the 1st with his 1st homer of the year and then Columbus adds 2 more in the 4th. Sears was nearing an upgrade when he gives up a 2 run homer to Devers (9) in the 6th getting Alamo to within 1, trailing 3-2. But Honeywell, King and Herrin shut the door and the Explorers hang on. FINAL COL 3 ALA 2 ALA 2-8-1 LP Lively (5-4) COL 3-5-0 WP Sears (4-5) S Herrin (15) |
| Game #5: | This one was another excitement enhanced game. A De La Cruz lead off homer (6) and Devers 2 out rbi double gets Alamo up 2-0 in the 6th. Santana then leads off the 7th with a homer (6) and then Bailey gets an rbi single and it’s 4-0 Alamo in the 7th. Pivetta looked to be another strong Defenders starter but Arias leads off the bottom of the 7th with a homer (2). That’s the 3rd lead off homer in the past 4 half innings!! With 1 out McCarthy singles and scores on a Varsho triple! Duran up, infield in, it’s off the end of the bat, Santana moving for it and they fire home – Varsho is OUT! 2 down and Junis in to get the final out and Kiki Hernandez up. HOMERUN (3) – TIE GAME!!!
But in the 9th, the Defenders comes back from the tie when Bailey smashes a 1 out solo homer (3)! But then they add another when Biggio walks and Fraley gets HBP with 2 outs. Rengifo follows with a single scoring Biggio and Alamo grabs the 6-4 lead. Cole Sands pitching the 9th (he’s already gone 1. giving up just 1 hit – and he blanks Columbus (no error biting him this game – apparently we needed to stay 4-4 after 9 to have a chance). |
| Game #6: | In the finale, Columbus looks to actually get an easy win as Parker tosses a 6 hit shutout for 8 innings (0 W, 6ks). And he’s gotten great run support – Luis Torrens 2 for 3, 2 rbis, homer (2), double, and Rojas 3 for 4, 3 runs and Triolo with 2 rbis!
5-0 lead entering the 9th and Bernardino enters for Columbus! Rengifo leads off, single. Tovar, singles. Ward, singles, rbi and runners on the corners. Exit Bernardino and Herrin enters. He walks Fraley to load the bases. Rizzo – SF, other runners hold, now 5-2. De La Cruz then singles and Ward scores, Fraley to 3rd, 5-3! De La Cruz steals 2nd, so tying runs are on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out! Then Herrin fans Biggio! 2 outs. Schneemann up – the pitch, roped – to 2nd, Donovan snares it – GAME OVER!! Whew |
| Summary: | The scappers pull out the series 4-2 but were outhit 48-34 for the series! We’ll take the wins while we can, but it will be tougher and tougher as the season goes along to keep getting the breaks. Next week we head to Long Beach for 7. |
