Both great fielding teams 0 errors for Selkirk 84 fo Valdosta both had trouble vs he running game. Selkirk finished 4th in era 3.22, Valdosta was just above league average at 3.92. | GAME #1 – Charlie Morton 8-11 (4.25) vs. Max Fried 6-3 (1.93)
Ronald Acuna leads off with a homer to start the series for Valdosta. Selkirk answered with Salvador Perez homer to tie the game 1-1. But after a Matt Mclain error Acuna hit a two run homer! 3-1 Valdosta but Selkirk hitter scame through two off Charlie Morton in the 6th. Then in the 8th Kevin Ginkel the Valdosta closer got hit had including a McClain 2 run homer for a 3 run inning. Craig Kimbrel saves it as he was great during the year going 31 for 23 in saves. | GAME #2 – Nick Martinez 12-6 (3.60) vs. Kenta Maeda 11-2 (3.01)
In season pick ups Nick Martinez and Kenta Maeda both do great. Maeda one mistake a Joey Wendle homer in 6.1 innings, and Martinez 1 run in 5 innings. Game 1-1 until Betts two out single scoring Nick Ahmed. Selkirk pwn locks it down. Selkirk 2 – Valdosta 1 Win: Michael Tonkin 1-0 (0.00) |
| GAME #3 – Kyle Gibson 21-6 (3.46) vs. Drew Smyly 13-10 (3.87)
Hitting game that was expected. Selkirk started of with a bang 4 homers (Mookie Betts, Justin Turner, Pete Alonso and 3 run by Adolis Garcia) for 6 runs. Selkirk ace Kyle Gibson (21 wins) left after 3 runs and 6 innings. But Valdosta showed heart hitting 3 homer off co-closer Iglesias! (Ronald Acuna, Brent Rooker, Joey Wendle and Lenyn Sosa) Game tied and off to extras. It was kill he bullpen day a Kimbrel went 3 shutout matched by Valdosta closer going 2 shutout. | GAME #4 – Max Fried 6-3 (1.93) vs. Taj Bradley 10-14 (4.92)
Both dead, Selkirk goes with Fried and Taj Bradley for Valdosta. Bradley did really well 1 run (solo homer by Mauricio Dubon) in 4.1 innings. Max Fried went 5.2 shutout innings, But Selkirk pen was burnt from last game. So, Nick Martinez came in relief and did well going 4+ allowing just a solo homer to Pete Alonso,. Up 2-0 in the 9th, Brent Rooker hits a homer and chase Brett Tonkin. Angel Perdomo got two hitters and Raisel Iglesias got the final out. Selkirk 2 – Valdosta 1 Win: Max Fried 1-0 (0.82) |
| SERIES SUMMARY – Both teams played great defence just 1 Error each in 4 games, but Selkirk Error led to 2 Un-Earned Runs, and Valdesta was 6-0 stealing while Selkirk was 2-0. Advantage Valdosta
Pitching advantage Selkirk 2.08 ERA and just 6 Walks with 39 K’s. Valdosta did well vs Selkirk hitting 4.38 ERA same 8 Homers but 18 Walks was an issue, Hitting Selkirk .231/.325/.462 18 Runs – In the end Selkirk swept the 4 games, but it was a very close series with 2 1 run wins and 2 2 runs games. The apba gods were tough on Valdosta as scoring just 11 runs with 8 homers is really tough to do over 4 game.
