Hollywood Werewolves @ Chicago Mobsters |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | The upcoming series between the Chicago Mobsters (27-25) and the Hollywood Werewolves (32-20) is shaping up to be a high-stakes showdown with a history of intense rivalry. The bad blood between these two teams has been well-documented, with previous playoff encounters only adding fuel to the fire. Fans can expect a tense atmosphere as both teams vie for supremacy, each bringing their A-game to avoid giving the other any edge.
Historically, their playoff matchups have been nail-biters, often coming down to critical plays and moments that have left a lasting impact on the players and supporters alike. This series is likely to continue in the same vein, with both teams eager to assert their dominance and move up in the standings. While the Hollywood Werewolves have the better record and could be considered the favorites, the Chicago Mobsters have shown they can rise to the occasion, especially in high-pressure situations. The odds might slightly favor the Werewolves due to their superior record and possibly deeper roster, but the Mobsters’ resilience makes this series too close to call definitively. Expect competitive odds reflecting the potential for either team to take the series, with perhaps a slight edge to the Werewolves, something like Hollywood Werewolves -130, Chicago Mobsters +110. However, in such a heated rivalry, anything can happen on the field. |
| Game #1: | In a game that showcased a mix of strategic hitting and defensive plays, the Chicago Mobsters clinched a victory over the Hollywood Werewolves with a final score of Chicago 10 – Hollywood 7. The game began with a promising start for the Werewolves as they took an early lead, but the Mobsters quickly turned the tables. Key moments included a grounder to third resulting in an error by Bregman, allowing Crawford to score, and a fisted hit by Thomas that brought Goldschmidt home, putting the Werewolves ahead. However, the Mobsters rallied back in the third inning with a series of walks and a fly ball by Arias that scored Bregman. Bethancourt’s solid hit to left field brought Rodriguez in, further extending the Mobsters’ lead. A notable three-run homer by Taveras in the fourth inning solidified the Mobsters’ dominant position.
A concerning moment occurred when Edmundo Sosa was struck by a pitch, resulting in an injury that could sideline him for 12 days. Does this start the war between these two clubs? You must stay tuned for more details along the way. The game concluded with a last-ditch effort from the Werewolves, including a three-run homer by Yelich, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Mobsters’ lead. The winning pitcher was J.P. Sears, improving his record to 4-5 with a 5.08 ERA, while Shan McClanahan took the loss, dropping to 0-5 with a 9.42 ERA. Final Score: Chicago 10 – Hollywood 7 Win: J.P. Sears 4-5 (5.08) |

Griffin Jax replaced Miley but couldn’t contain the Mobsters’ offense. The Mobsters continued to extend their lead, highlighted by another home run from Y. Alvarez in the seventh inning. May striking out seven across seven and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run. C. Poche and D. Bednar came out of the bullpen to secure the win and the save, respectively. The Mobsters attempted a comeback in the ninth inning, getting two runners on base, but Bednar shut down the rally, earning his 15th save of the season. The Werewolves’ timely hitting and strong pitching performance were the keys to their victory. Final Score: Hollywood 3 – Chicago 1 Win: Dustin May 1-0 (2.13) |
| Game #4: | The Hollywood Werewolves secured a victory over the Chicago Mobsters with a final score of Hollywood 5 – Chicago 3. The game kicked off with J.P. Crawford‘s solo home run, setting an early lead for the Werewolves. Chicago’s defense held firm with impressive plays by Luis Arraez and Willy Adames, but Hollywood’s offense proved too strong. Aaron Judge and Alejandro Kirk contributed key hits, with Kirk doubling to set up further scoring opportunities.
A notable moment came in the 3rd inning when Chicago’s center fielder Julio Rodriguez made a spectacular catch but collided with the wall, leading to an injury that placed him on the 7-day Disabled List. Despite the setback, Chicago’s resilience was on display as they managed to score two runs, narrowing the gap. Charlie Morton delivered a solid performance for Hollywood, earning the win with a 4-3 record and a 3.73 ERA. The Mobsters extended their lead in the fifth inning when Y. Alvarez hit a three-run homer, bringing the score to 4-0. The Werewolves attempted a comeback in the sixth with J. Crawford hitting a two-run homer, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. The Mobsters’ pitching, led by Bryce Miller, kept the Werewolves at bay, with Devin Williams earning his first save of the season. Mike Clevinger took the loss for the Werewolves. The game ended with the Mobsters’ defense holding strong, ensuring their win.
Final Score: Chicago 4 – Hollywood 2 Win: Bryce Miller 4-2 (3.10) |
| Game #6: | In a dominant display, the Chicago Mobsters secured a convincing victory over the Hollywood Werewolves with a final score of Chicago 9 – Hollywood 1. The game began with a series of quick outs as both teams’ pitchers, J.P. Sears for the Mobsters and Shane McClanahan for the Werewolves, showcased their skills. However, it was Sears who emerged victorious, improving his record to 5-5 with an ERA of 4.74, while McClanahan fell to 0-6, his ERA ballooning to 8.65.
The Mobsters took an early lead in the 2nd inning with a triple from R. Greene, driving in L. Taveras. The Werewolves responded in the 6th with a solo home run by M. Chavis, but it was the only run they could muster. The Mobsters extended their lead in the bottom of the 6th, with G. Arias hitting a crucial double to bring in two runs. The 7th inning saw the Mobsters widen the gap even further, capitalizing on A. Ottavino’s pitching for the Werewolves, with a series of hits and walks that led to three more runs. The game concluded with Aroldis Chapman shutting down any hope of a Werewolves comeback in the 9th, ensuring a comfortable win for the Mobsters. The Werewolves’ defense struggled throughout the game, committing multiple errors that contributed to their defeat. The Mobsters’ offense was relentless, consistently finding gaps and taking advantage of the Werewolves’ mistakes to secure their victory. Final Score: Chicago 9 – Hollywood 1 Win: J.P. Sears 5-5 (4.74) |
| Game #7: | In a heated game #7, tensions flared as both Kyle Hendricks and Isiah Campbell were ejected from the game. Hendricks’ pitch struck Chicago’s star Yordan Alvarez, resulting in a 7-day stint on the Disabled List for the player. The game began with a promising double from C. Yelich, but Chicago’s Jesus Luzardo quickly settled in, striking out several batters and keeping the Werewolves at bay.
The Mobsters took an early lead in the bottom of the 1st, with a triple from A. Bregman followed by a home run from Y. Alvarez, pushing the score to 4-1. The Werewolves’ defense struggled as Hendricks allowed another run in the 4th, with R. Greene hitting a solo homer making it 5-1 for the Mobsters. Luzardo continued to dominate on the mound, racking up an impressive 15 strikeouts. The Werewolves tried to rally in the 9th with M. Chapman hitting a two-run homer, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Mobsters’ lead. Jhoan Duran closed out the game for Chicago, securing the victory. Corktown Cycle @ Columbus Explorers |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Corktown in for a six-pack. Cycle seems to have some confusion in the dugout – hopefully it gets cleared up before the series is over. |
| Game #1: | Cycle start fast with a 3 run 1st. Columbus manages to chip away with solo runs in the 1st and 2nd and 4th and then take the lead 6-3 with 3 in the 6th and make it 7-3 in 7th. Not to be outdone, the Cycle comes back for 2 in the 8th, Columbus gets one in the 8th and well, you’d think we’d close it out in the 9th with Abreu – but!! This game featured 7 hit batsmen! SEVEN which led to 4 ejections, 1 big injury (COL – Rojas, 19 days). And Abreu was one of the ejections, in comes Honeywell – and blown save. Honeywell gives up a 3 run homer to Schneider (5) and the game is tied! However, the saga isn’t over, Pagan and Gravewell are both tossed in the bottom of the 9th and the Explorers parlay a couple of HBP into the winning run!! COLUMBUS wins 9-8. WP Honeywell (1-3), LP Pagan (1-2) |
| Game #2: | 12 hits from Corktown was not enough to match the 16 from Columbus as the Explorers jump into a 10-1 lead after 4 innings. However, after 6 that lead had shrunk to 12-9 as the Cycle mount a couple of 4 run innings in the 5th and 6th including an Outman big blast (13). Columbus managed to hang on to the lead even with their weak bullpen. However, the game features another 3 hit batsmen and this time the Cycle loss a player – Danny Jansen, for 25 days! COLUMBUS wins 13-9. WP Schmidt (1-8) – he gives up 5 runs in his 1st win. LP Pfaadt (0-1) |
| Game #3: | Another 1 run game with a couple of lead changes. Down 2-1 in the 4th, Columbus scores twice to take the lead on a Mejia 2 run homer (2). But then the Cycle score 4 times in the 5th including a 3 run Chisholm (6) homer to take the lead for good. Columbus fights back with 2 in the 8th but fall short to Pagan’s 4 out save! CORKTOWN wins 6-5. WP Bello (4-4) S Pagan (10) LP Peterson (1-9) |
| Game #4: | After a day off and some clarity in the Corktown dugout, the Cycle come back firing on all cylinders in what turned into a very wild game. The first two innings are heavily punctuated by Chris Taylor and his 2 hits – both homers (13, 14). He amassed 5 rbis on them and the Cycle score 4 in the 1st and 6 in the 2nd! Down 10-0 after 2 it was to be a long day. However a strange thing happened in the bottom of the 4th. The Explorers hit not 1 2 run homer, not two, but THREE of them – and then get another run to boot. Colas (5), Hernandez (4) and Donovan (3) each crack 2 run jacks. Adding an 8th run int he 5th makes it 10-8 but the Cycle seemingly ice it with 2 more in the 6th for a 12-8 lead. Good thing as Columbus gets 2 more but fall short. CORKTOWN wins 12-10! WP Pearson (2-0) S LeClerc (1) LP Urquidy (1-4) |
| Game #5: | Corktown now trying to get on a roll are lead in this one by a stellar performance on the mound by Liberatore. 7 innings, 5 hits, 6 ks no walks and NO RUNS. A 4 run 8th took a tight 3-0 game and blew it open into a big 7-0 Cycle lead. Bleday has big day, 2 for 4, 4 rbis, double and homer (4). Duran (3) 2 run homer for Columbus in the 8th off Pfaadt killed the shutout, but not the win. CORKTOWN wins 7-2. WP Liberatore (2-1) LP Lambert (2-5) |
| Game #6: | Series finale with Corktown leading 3 games to 2 and Bibee faces Gilbert. Both teams plate 2 in the 2nd as Alafaro and Caballero drive in runs for Corktown and Columbus gets 2 including a solo homer from Hernandez (5). Hernandez hits another solo shot (6) in the 5th for a 3-2 Columbus lead, but Corktown comes right back and takes the lead 4-3 on a 2 run Volpe triple! However, with a LeMahieu 2 run homer (9) leading a 3 run bottom of the 6th, the Explorers retake the lead, 6-4 and manage to keep it with a 6 out Abreu save (he fans 4). COLUMBUS win 6-4. WP Gilbert (4-2) S Abreu (9) LP Bibee (4-4) |
