2023 MWBL AWARDS

The World Series Champion Hollywood Werewolves had the American League Most Valuable Player as Aaron Judge took home the hardware after knocking out 55 Home Runs, and 136 RBIs while batting .307 on the year.   Freddie Freeman of the Dominant Tempe Tempers took home the National League’s Most Valuable Player, after batting .344 with 29 Home Runs & 115 RBIs.

Sandy Alcantara 21-8 (2.07) of the Fremont Cannons had a dominant season and won the American League, Cy Young award, his first.  Tempe’s Justin Verlander wins his second Cy Young Award after going 28-2 with a 1.02 ERA in the National League.

Chicago Mobsters have this year’s American League Rookie of the Year, as Julio Rodriguez in a Unanimous decision runs away with the award after batting .324 with 34 Home Runs, 116 RBIs, & 40 Steals.  Michael Harris won the Rookie of the Year in the National League, knocking out 19 Home Runs, knocking in 68 RBIs with 27 Steals, all while batting .303 for the Valdosta Snappers.

Jordan Romano was the real deal for the Hollywood Werewolves winning the American League Rolaids Reliever of the Year (4-1 with 34 Saves, a 1.12 ERA & a 0.71 WHIP) & the Tempe Tempers Andres Munoz was almost as dominant in the National League (3-5, 35 Saves, 1.54 ERA, & a 0.77 WHIP).  Two fine lockdown closers to say the least.

The Manager of the Year Award in the American League comes from World Series Champion as Steve Cutler of the Hollywood Werewolves wins by a narrow margin with a 5-point win over Stray Corrado.  Tempe Tempers Chris Douglass wins his 10th Manager of the Year in the National League, beating out the National League Champion Nigel Earhart.

AMERICAN LEAGUE AWARD WINNERS

NATIONAL LEAGUE AWARD WINNERS 

A bit of perspective on where some of the awards stand a few days after the Awards were written by Casey Hoch.
 
1. Tucker Barnhart‘s 3rd GG ties him with three others for the third-most at C.
2. Paul Goldschmidt‘s 3rd GG ties him with Adrian Gonzalez for the fifth-most at 1B.
3. Nolan Arenado and Manny Machado each now have five GG at 3B, which ties them with HOFer Adrian Beltre for the most at the position.
4. Justin Verlander‘s second CYA puts him in a group of nine pitchers with two awards, with only Clayton Kershaw and PedroJ. Martinez is ahead of them.
5. Clayton Kershaw‘s 10 ASG appearances tie for second with Billy Wagner among pitchers, with only Mariano Rivera (12) ahead. Justin Verlander‘s 8th appearance leaves him alone in 5th place.
6. Jose Altuve‘s 10 ASG appearances tie for second with three others among position players, with only Miguel Cabrera and Derek Jeter (both 12) ahead. Paul Goldschmidt‘s 9th appearance leaves him tied with Manny Ramirez for 7th most.
7. Chris’s 10th Manager of the Year Award puts him two clear of Stray atop the leaderboard, while Steve’s 5th award ties him with Sergio, with only George (7) and the Chris mentioned above and Stray ahead.
