|
|---|---|
| Series Preview: | Fremont rides a 16-game win streak into the series as they host Southbend in a matchup of AL big boys. The Cannons are looking to avenge their only series loss this season. |
| Game #1: | Lynx starter Johan Oviedo keeps it close for a little bit, but Fremont erupts for 7 runs in the 4th. Meanwhile, Fremont starter Walker Buehler is dominant, allowing just one hit and no walks through 7.2 IP. Combined with the bullpen, the Cannons come two batters short of a perfect game. Fremont wins 8-0.
W: Walker Buehler (16-6) HR: SBL- none; FRE- Mike Yastrzemski (15) |
| Game #2: | Bo Bichette gets the scoring started with a solo HR off of Fremont’s Carlos Rodon in the first. The Cannons answer right back in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back homers from Shohei Ohtani and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. off of Carlos E. Hernandez. The score stays the same until the fifth when an Elias Diaz solo HR and and Yuieski Gurriel run-scoring single makes it 4-1 for Fremont.
Fremont is thinking about another one-hitter in the seventh when Jose Altuve singles and Austin Meadows triples him in. A chopper from Mark Canha is enough to bring in Meadows and it’s suddenly 4-3. Fremont brings in relief ace Tejay Antone, who get two outs in the eighth before a walk and a Jose Altuve HR moves Southbend in front 5-4. The #5 pick in the draft, Drew Steckenrider, is able to finish off the comeback for save #40. Southbend wins 5-4. W: Luke Jackson (8-0) HR: SBL- Bo Bichette (26), Jose Altuve (15); FRE- Shohei Ohtani (44), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (31), Elias DIaz (9) |
| Game #3: | The longball gets the Lynx on the board right away again, as Max Muncy’s two run HR in the first off of Sandy Alcantara reminds Fremont again that they passed him up in the 2019 Draft. Fremint scores one in the second, then the teams trade runs for the next few innings. The Lynx cap their scoring at six with a run-scoring double in the 6th from Mark Canha to go up 6-3.
Hirokazu Sawamura loads the bases in the bottom of the sixth, then walks in a run, Tyler Duffy gives up a sac fly to Carlos Correa and Fremont gets to within one. Fremont gets runners on 1st and 3rd in the seventh but can’t score. Drew Steckenrider comes on in the ninth and goes 1-2-3 for another save. Southbend wins 6-5. W: Tyler Duffey (2-0) HR: SBL- Juan Soto (25), Max Muncy (29),Mark Canha (18); FRE-Austin Hays (13) |
| Game #4: | Heard this one before? Southbend scores in the first… Austin Meadows launches a 3-run homer off of Tarik Skubal to give the Lynx a 4-0 lead after one. Kyle Tucker and Jose Altuve homer in the third and Southbend has a daunting 7-0 lead. Skubal is left out to absorb some damage, allowing 10 runs total. Fremont musters just one hit off of Freddy Peralta and strikes out 8 times in six innings. The Lynx cruise to the 11-2 victory.
W: Freddy Peralta (14-5) HR: SBL-Kyle Tucker (24), Jose Altuve (16),Austin Meadows (24); FRE- none |
| Game #5: | Heard this one before? Southbend scores in the first… Shohei Ohtani gets knocked around in the first then , then walks three straight batters to force in another run. SBL goes up 3-0 after one. Ohtani walks Juan Soto to lead off the second then gives up a few more hits. SBL is up 6-0 after two. The Cannons can’t pull Ohtani from the mound too early as his bat is needed for a come back, and he guts through teh next four innings without allowing a run.
Fremont finally gets to Jordan Yamamoto in the fourth with a 3-run Javier Baez HR. Fremont tacks on another with an Ohtani run-scoring double in the fifth. Fremont makes an AL-style blunder in the seventh as reliever Brad Wieck stays in to take an at-bat rather than being PH-ed out. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homers in the eighth to bring the Cannons within one. Drew Steckenrider comes in for the save again, despite allowing a leadoff single in the ninth. SBL wins 6-5. W: Jordan Yamamoto (10-6) HR: SBL- none; FRE- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (32), Javier Baez (19) |
| Game #6: | A rematch of Game 1 saw a similar result to Game 1. All nine Cannons take a turn in the bottom of the first, with Austin Hays’s 2-run homer capping off a six-run inning. Fremont starter Walker Buehler allows a few more hits this time, but still blanks Southbend through seven. Buehler plunks Max Muncy and Mark Canha for revenge, but is not ejected. Both players just miss the rest of the day. Fremont wins 9-0.
W: Walker Buehler (17-6) HR: SBL- none; FRE- Mike Yastrzemski (16), Austin Hays (14) |
| Series Summary: | Fremont fails to get revenge and drops both series this season to Southbend, this one 4-2, despite the Lynx not bringing their top rotation to bear. Three blowouts and three 1-run games. The 1-run games all went to Southbend who is now 18-6 in those contests. Fremont wishes they had 5 Walker Buehlers. They also hope someone can knock off the Lynx in the playoffs before they have to face them again. |
