VirginiaDetroitSERIES PREVIEW – Two solid teams yet one was predicted to be here & one was supposed to be on the golf course.   Manager Paul Roe has a hard task at hand in trying to overcome the higher seed, but Roe always has a trick up his long sleeve.
GAME #1 – Luis Castillo (6-4 3.42) vs. Carlos Carrasco (7-3 3.56)

Detroit jumps out to an early 1-0 lead from an RBI single by Shwarber scoring LaStella, In top o the 3rd Biggio tied up with a solo shot,In the 4th Voit put Det up 2-1 with an opposite field HR and in the 5th Schwarber knocked a 3 run HR out to make the score 5-1 In the 7th Carrasco gave up a 2 run HR to Merrifield, the Detroit bullpen closed out the contest 5-4, Hoyt picked up the Save.

Detroit 5 – Virginia 4

Detroit up 1 Game to 0

GAME #2 – Adam Plutko (8-2 1.72) vs. Chris Bassitt (5-4 2.86)

This game was a blowout as Detroit scored in 1 in the 3rd rom a solo HR by Machado , 2 in the 4th and 5 in the 5th as Machado hits a grand slam, Bassitt was dominant going 8IP giving up only 2 hits. 

Detroit 9 – Virginia 1

Detroit up 2 Games to 0

GAME #3 – Aaron Nola (7-2 3.07) vs. Triston McKenzie (2-3 2.51)

Voit started of the scoring for Detroit going deep in the 1st making the score 2-0, Virginia came back with hits by Bradley , 3B by Segura and a sac fly, 2-2, HRs by Jimenez and Rizzo put them up 6-3 then and excellent bullpen pithcing going 4IP 1 hit 0 runs sealed the deal as Virginia wins.

GAME #4 – Kyle Cody (2-0 2.25) vs. Elieser Hernandez (2-3 2.36)

Deroitt got an early lead on Virginia on a 2 run HR from Machado in the 1st, they also got another 2run HR in the 3rd from Grandal Detroit 4-0, Machado hit another 2 run HR in the 5th but in the bottom o the 5th Virginia started there comeback with a 3 run HR from Merrifeild ; In the bottom of the 7th Detroit with a 8-3 lead relied on the pen which totally imploded giving up 6 runs , the final 4 coming on a Grand Slam from Bradley off of Britton, Virginia then closed out the contest.

Virginia 9 – Detroit 8

Series Tied at 2 Game Each

GAME #5 – Carlos Carrasco (7-3 3.56) vs. Luis Castillo (6-4 3.42)

Detroit jumped out to another 1st inning lead with a 3 run HR from Voit, in the 4th Springer got Virginia on the board with a solo shot, Detroit 3-1; In the 6th Jimenez got an rbi 2b scoring Merriefield, Detroit tried to close out the game but failed giving up RBIs from Segura and Biggio, forcing extra innings; Harper with a 3b brought in the go ahead run and Perez closed out he game

Detroit 5 – Virginia 4 (10 Innings)

Detroit up 3 Games to 2

GAME #6 – Adam Plutko (8-2 1.72) vs. Chris Bassitt (5-4 2.86)

This one was no contest as Bassitt was dominant again going 8 IP giving up only 3 hits 0 runs 5 Ks; Machado provided the offense with 2 more HRs (6 total in series) and 5 RBIs Detroit takes this last game.

Detroit 6 – Virginia 0

Detroit wins the series 4 Games to 2

SERIES SUMMARY – Paul Roe gave it a good ride & says this is why the playoffs should expand.  “My team shouldn’t have been there, but with the expanded playoffs anything can happen.  Hats off to Mr. Ivone on his American League Championship, let’s hope he brings the World Series home to the American Leaue.
