Fremont Cannons @ Chicago Mobsters

Series Preview: Two teams near the top battle it out in the Windy City of Chicago.
Game #1: Dylan Bundy was spectacular going the distance and striking out 12 Mobsters along the way. Yoan Moncada hit a solo Home Run in the 3rd & Mike Brosseau hit a 3-Run bomb of Julio Urias to make it a 4-0 game. Chicago couldn’t muster anything off Bundy & showed no offense at all in this one.

Final Score: Fremont 4 – Chicago 0

Win: Dylan Bundy 3-1 (2.43)
Loss: Julio Urias 3-2 (2.72)

Game #2: Chicago starter Trevor Bauer let up the 2nd Baltimore Special of the series for the Cannons when Bryan Buxton went yard in the 6th. Luckily, Chicago has Nelson Cruz who hit a 2-Run Home Run in the 7th, & a second 2-Run Bomb at the bottom of the 12th for the walk-off win. Not sure why but the Micro-Manager left in the Fremont starter for not only the 10th but the 11th & 12th as well. 41 Batters deep.

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Fremont 3

Win: Alex Colome 1-0 (2.13)
Loss: Sandy Alcantra 2-1 (3.94)

Series Summary: Chicago & Fremont split a tough-fought first series of the year between these two clubs. It could be a possible Playoff matchup come October.

Coconut Creek Crushers @ Virginia Sluggers

Series Preview: Coconut Creek 13-13 visits Virginia 14-12 with both teams trying to stay above .500
Game #1: VIR 12-11 W-T.Webb (1-0) L-D.Pomeranz (1-2)

A crazy game. There were 11, yes 11 home runs! The only player for Coconut Creek who didn’t get a hit was a defensive replacement who never got to the plate. On Virginia’s end, it was only R.Devers who failed in 5 tries to get a hit. The first runs of the game came courtesy of a G.Springer 2-run homer in the 1st. However, Coconut Creek responded in the 2nd with 8 runs…J.Walsh hit a 2-run rocket, B.Nimmo blasted a Grand Slam and W.Myers lined a 2-run shot just over the RF fence! 3 homers and 8 runs! CCC 8 – VIR 2. C.Biggio’s solo pop in the bottom of the 2nd made it CCC 8 – VIR 3. B.Nimmo launched a 2-run drive in the 4th giving CCC a 10-3 lead and giving Nimmo 2 homers and 6 RBI.VIR made it 10-5 in the bottom of the 4th on Springer’s 2nd homer and a S.Murphy’s RBI single. VIR kept the pressure on in the 5th when E.Jimenez and G.Springer hit back-to-back homers. For Springer, his 3rd of the game. J.Segura followed 2 batters later with his own solo shot making it CCC 10 – VIR 9. In the bottom of the 8th, J.Bradley ripped one over M.Betts in RF for a double. W.Merrifield scored and the game was knotted at 10 all. No Problem. Top of the 9th…after all those homers…”N. HOERNER facing T. WEBB, T 9th, 1 Out, 2nd and 3rd, Tied 10-10 …WALSH down the line some at third … WEBB brings it home … HOERNER puts a charge into this pitch…it might fly … MERRIFIELD races back … to the track … he leaps … he has it!…and he gets rid of the ball desperately … both runners are tagging
…the coach has the windmill churning … he’s trying to score…here comes the throw home…here’s the play at the plate … and he’s … in standing…HOERNER picks up a sac fly and an RBI … and WALKER holds at second…CRUSHERS 11, SLUGGERS 10.” But as they say on that TV commercial,…”Wait! There’s More!” Bottom of the 9th. Biggio flys out, Segura walks, Murphy grounds out, Segura to 2nd. B.Anderson comes into PH for Rizzo…”B. ANDERSON facing D. POMERANZ, B 9th, 2 Outs, Runner on 2nd, Behind 10-11 …SEGURA edges a bit more off second … here’s the delivery … ANDERSON jacks one to deep left…MYERS retreats … still going back … to the track … to the wall … gone!…home run for ANDERSON … it’s all over! … Brian W. trots around the bases…he loves a trip downtown … he claps his hands … he’s greeted at the plate…CRUSHERS 11, SLUGGERS 12…FINAL SCORE: CRUSHERS 11, SLUGGERS 12
One heck of a game!

Game #2: CCC 3-2 W-C.Smith (1-0) L-L.Garcia (0-1) SV-C.Stashak (3)

A tight game despite CCC out-hitting VIR 12-2. CCC just couldn’t get the hits at the right time as they left a lot of runners on base. However, VIR couldn’t put any hits together to do any good. They only got 2 hits! C.Smith was stellar for his 6 innings. He allowed only 1 hit. Thanks to W. Meyers’ 1st inning RBI single, CCC was leading 1-0 going into the 7th. They would add 2 more runs when C.Walker laced a 2-run double, scoring Castro and Betts. And that’s a good thing for CCC. Because L.Trivino would give up VIR’s 2nd hit of the game when he served up R.Dever’s 5th homer of the year,…a 2-run blast that put VIR within 1 run at 3-2. Trevino settled and got out of the 7th and breezed thru the 8th. Stashak took over for the 9th and faced 3 batters,…bing, bang, boom…end of the game. No come back this time for the Sluggers.

Series Summary: Series split.

For CCC – W.Myers 4-9 6 RBI and 2 homers Betts 4-9
For VIR – G.Springer 3-6 3 runs 4 RBI 3 HR

Columbus Explorers @ Selkirk Steelers

Game #1: Marchan 2 homers 5 RBIs for Explorers. Col 6 Selkirk 3.
Game #2: Cano three hits Selkirk wins 4-1.
Series Summary: Series split 1-1. Player of the week Marchan 2 homers 5 RBIs.

Hollywood Werewolves @ Mesa Solar Sox

Series Preview: Hollywood (12-14) comes to Mesa (14-12) for a two-game set.
Game #1: Clayton Kershaw (0-3???) vs. Andrew Heaney (1-4, like normal). A pitchers duel through and through. Kershaw gives up 4 hits in 6 1/3 innings, allowing only a solo Starling Marte homer.

Heaney outdoes the Hall of Famer, by pitching a CG 6 hit shutout.

Game #2: Hollywood’s Dustin May gets blasted for 7 runs in 4 innings. He gives up homers to Rowdy Tellez, Aldoberto Mondesi, and another one to Marte. Mesa pounds out 15 hits and wins 10-1.
Series Summary: The normally potent Hollywood offense was quiet for both games ( 1 run and 12 hits, combined). Mesa’s long ball capability was the difference, even with 2020 60 homer man Eugenio Suarez 0-3 and stuck in a terrible slump.

Cincinnati Skyliners @ Dallas Cougars

Series Summary: Cougars and Skyliners split.

Corktown Cycle @ Pittsburgh Lumber Company

Series Preview: The last place Corktown (5-21) visits Pittsburgh (12-14)
Game #1: Corktown battles back, after trailing 4-1, to take a 5-4 lead in the 6th. The Cycle adds a run in the 9th and calls on Jordan Romano to save it. The Lumber Company bats finally awaken, rallying for 3 in the bottom of the 9th to steal a victory. Wendle and Tsutsugo each have a pair of hits for Pittsburgh. Verdugo led the Corktown offense with 3 hits and 2 RBIs.

COR 6 11 0
PIT 7 7 2
WP – Rogers (1-0)
LP – Romano (1-2)

Game #2: Corktown gets the victory they deserved in game 1, rolling over the Lumber Company. Berrios and Pearson combine on a 6 hit shut-out for an easy 7-0 Cycle victory. Verdugo had another big game for the Cycle, collecting 2 hits, knocking in 2, and scoring twice, Alfaro goes 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Wendle had 3 of the 6 Pittsburgh hits.

COR 7 14 1
POT 0 6 0
WP – Berrios (2-4)
LP – Young (0-1)

Series Summary: Pittsburgh is lucky to earn the series split, as the last place Cycle outplay the Lumber Company.

Bethesda Bandicoots @ Tempe Tempers

Series Preview: The usually troublesome Bandicoots come to Tempe for a two games series.
Game #1: Darvish continued his bid for Cy-Young surrendering one hit over five innings. Cahill was a wild man with a few WP and lots of walks. At one point in the 5th, he’d surrendered five runs on only three hits. Ozuna and Cespedes took him deep. Cueto made it closer at the end giving up five runs over 3.2 innings.
Tempe 7-5
Darvish W 8-0
Cahill 0-2
Hahn S #6
Game #2: Odorizi couldn’t keep the ball in the park as Bogaerts, Ozuna, and Freeman each went deep. Maeda tossed five shutout innings and then hit the showers with a 6-0 lead.
Tempe 7-0
Maeda 2-2
Odorizi 3-1
Series Summary: Tempe pitching continues to dominate and the bats are now starting to heat up. Bethesda drops both, but they are still right in the mix for one of the last wild card spots.

Detroit Crime @ Yonge Street Stalkers

Series Preview: The Crime visits the Stalkers. The home team probably has a chance in game 1 behind Gerrit Cole. Let the games begin.
Game #1: Cole was good, just not good enough. Carrasco pitched just a bit better, and Bryce Harper homered in the top of the 9th to provide the winning margin. DET 3 – YSS 2
Game #2: Adrian Houser took one for the team. It was a veritable parade of extra-base hits from the bats of the Crime. Machado, Harper, and Voit all homered AND doubled. Those 6 extra-base hits were exactly half of the Crimes XBH barrage. Castano and 2 relievers kept the Stalker bats relatively silent. DET 15 – YSS 2
Series Summary: The Detroit squad came in and swept the quick 2 gamer. They’ll continue on to CCC next week. YSS packs up for MCM.

Valdosta Snappers @ Rosemere Renegades

Series Summary: A disappointing split for the locals as they can’t capitalize on low graded pitching

Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Triple Creek Patriots

Series Preview: Two evenly matched NL teams trying to find the postseason.
Game #1: Lynn vs. Gausman was a good one. Lynn goes the distance scattering 6 hits and 2 walks. Gausman allows just 1 run over 6 full and Tropeano locked down the last 3. The 1 run would be enough as Long Beach takes the first of two.

LBD 1 TCP 0

W – Lynn (3-1)
L – Gausman (2-3)

Game #2: Triple Creek finally breakthrough by scoring two in the 1st. They would add 4 more while Anderson, Soria, and McGee team up to allow a single run.

LBD 1 TCP 6

W – Anderson (2-2)
L – Garcia (1-3)

Series Summary: One Win for each squad.

Tijuana Bottle Rockets @ Southbend Lynx

Series Preview: Tijuana and Southbend face off in a 2 game series between two teams at the bottom of the AL standings.
Game #1: Tijuana takes the first game 6-3 behind the strength of their bullpen. Southbend got out to an early lead 2-0 before Tijuana came back with 6 unanswered runs. Southbend errors in the 7th lead to their undoing. TIJ L.Garcia goes 2-4 w/rbi and I.Paredes 3-4 w/rbi. Canha and Muncy hit HRs for Southbend. TIJ Slegers gets the win and SBL Yamamoto takes the loss.
Game #2: Southbend rebounds and takes the second game 11-2 behind 14 hits. The big hit was a 3rd inning Grand Slam by Muncy who goes 2-4 w/5 rbi. Meadows adds his 1st HR of the year and Tucker is 2-5 w/1-2b and 2 rbi. TIJ L.Garcia has another good game going 3-5 w/1 run. TIJ has 12 hits in the game but can’t come up with the big hit to get back into the game. SBL lets Oviedo go the distance for the CG win and TIJ Ynoa is handed the loss.
Series Summary: The bottom two teams play to a 1-1 split.

Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas @ Motor City Muscle

Series Preview: Quick two-gamer between SWD and MCM.
Game #1: SWD 6 – MCM 4

WP: J. Montgomery
LP: Tanaka
SV: Tate
HR: SWD–D. Smith, B. Lowe, Moran; MCM–Trout, Arcia

Homers were flying. Dominic Smith was the difference for SWD, going 3-4with three runs, two RBI, and a dinger.

Game #2: MCM 5 – SWD 3

WP: Yardley
LP: Helsley
HR: SWD–B. Lowe, Bader; MCM–Aquino

The see-saw game saw Eric Yardley blow the save and then snake the win for MCM.

Series Summary: Series split
